This was the official breaking point of the game. It's amazing it was a one score game this last into the third because it sure didn't feel like it. After this though, everyone quit. All time bad play and decision making, and on a 4 man rush. Curious to see the All 22 on this because it looks like Swift is wide open for the check down.

Nope.  "For the hundredth time" -- it's all the coaches.

Pretty sure I saw him audible last night into something that didn't work

Good point. We'd lose out on those comp picks that Howie adores

I swear they did it again last night on one of those 3rd and short plays

We need 'em. Especially if we're going to constantly ship our mid round picks out for Kevin Byard and Robert Quinn.

I'm still just flat out puzzled by the fact they don't run crossing routes and why in god's name they didn't put Covey in the slot instead of Quez.  I mean let's see, Covey has to field punts with people buzzing all around him.....you'd think, gee...maybe we should try him in the slot to change things up.

One thing I know 110% is that if Bellichick DOES come here, Covey will absolutely be the slot guy and he'll be allwhite alright.

Yet brady was what a 6th rounder??? Hes an outlier, most qbs dont win 6 superbowls.

Aaron rodgers who was for a good stretch the best qb in the nfl has as many rings as foles.

Meanwhile guys like Herbert, desaun watson, and a handful of other high profile qbs didnt even make the playoffs.

Meanwhile you have a guy like eli manning, who won two super bowls, he was a turnover machine but he made big plays in big games behind a great O line a great D line and a punishing running game.

Oddly enough Lurie who wants a high flying passing team won his only super bowl with a punishing running team and a journeyman qb.

Why not replicate that formula over and over?

Because fancy high profile qbs who throw the ball over the yard out butts in the seats and money in pockets of the owners .

Me ill take my chances with a game manager a dominant running game and a good D.

But you wouldn't turn down an elite franchise QB if you could get one. No one would. And every team will try to find one until they have one.

Trouble is... Swift was between the hashes as the outlet.   Hurts doesn't throw to that spot on the field.  Swift might as well have just fallen into a well on that play, Hurts wasn't going to see him.

For me, the decision is easy. Let Cox walk. Resign Brandon.

Again....his situational awareness is freaking trash. You don't run into the damn endzone trying to avoid a sack. He is a freaking moron and I really do question his intelligence at this point in terms of being able to process things as they are happening. It makes sense why he can't check or progress through options. That play says it all.

True -- but if that head coach is in high demand and has multiple offers, would you take the job where Doug was fired 3 years after winning the Super Bowl and Nick fired one year after reaching one, or would you be inclined to take the other one with more security?

A guy like Belichick doesn't care about long-term security.  He'd be fine with a 4 year shot and ready to retire after that anyway.

As for the rest, money talks.  Put up enough money and years and that outweighs the risk of getting fired quickly since the money is guaranteed.

Covey was a pretty good WR in college, he was a good gadget player but for whatever reason siri and BJ thought it would be better to send quez on 3 yard routes all game...😒

Yeah, I heard that somewhere thanks.

Look at it this way.  If I'm an underperforming Eagles player (there were many) and Jason Kelce tells me in the locker room I need to get my crap together and focus -- you don't think I'm gonna feel like asking him how his podcast is coming along?  IMO it was an unneeded distraction during the season.  Offseason?  No problem.  It should be an offseason venture IMO.

It's a podcast that last an hour or two and you can tell they do zero prep for.

Yeah, some irrelevant podcast cost this team or made a dent. What a take

It was just all around bad that series. This only happened because Gainwell decided to run 10 yards backwards like he's Tyreek or something.

Nah... They made up for that on the next play and it was a manageable (well, manageable for most teams) 3rd and 6.  Hurts just decided to do the exact same thing, only he ran back even further, when all he had to do was throw the ball into the stands once he escaped the pocket... which happened right around the 2 yard line.   BUT, he doesn't have great arm strength to be able to throw the ball away, past the LOS, while running to his left.  He's not a guy who can just throw it using his arm only.  He needs his legs to be part of the equation, even on a throw away.

I was screaming at the tv when he went backwards. Like wtf

I'd be shocked if they hired a defensive minded HC

Johnson, McDonald, Slowik in that order.

Hurts audibled into that mess. They really no had plan for the blitz and couldn't come up with something midgame either

Hurts is a bad play caller. We know this. Also, one of those guys on the right probably ran the wrong route. Thats probably where DeVonta talked about him seeing one signal, and Goedert seeing a different signal. It wasnt communicated clearly and they ran routes to the same area of the field. Communication issues which falls on the QB. Not a design flaw by coaches.

Cox was arguably the eagles best Defender this year, thats not saying much but i think he has more left in the tank then graham

I love graham but dude is good for like 5 plays a game before hes spent.

Don't need to see the all-22 to know that this one is all on Hurts. Gotta get rid of the ball once he breaks the pocket. If there's no space to throw someone open to, then sail it out of bounds and give your defense the chance to be the hero (I've got jokes, I know, but still.)

Assuming this is directed at me, see above. It's an obvious strawman to claim I've argued "it's all on the coaches" when I've repeatedly said Hurts hasn't been seeing the field well on multiple occasions, including the play in question where I said taking that safety is 100% his fault.

7 minutes ago, twistr said:

The post was about the play design, not Hurts for once. There are no levels to the plays and on this play they bunched the targets into the same areas which allows the defense to be dense in that area and leads to more possibilities of interceptions or incompletions.

that was on Hurts. He didnt communicate the signal properly. Thats why they ran routes to the same area. The players themselves explained that they both saw a different signal.

In a game that highly rewards mercenaries, I appreciate this last batch of homegrown guys. Kelce, Graham, Cox, Lane...I doubt we ever have 4 guys with their longevity and loyalty on this team ever again at the same time.

I absolutely think Covey deserves a shot at the slot in camp.

that makes some sense, but given the coaching we've seen this season, I'm also not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

That's a you issue then.   These guys aren't robots who are football 24/7.   They have down time.  He spends about an hour a week talking nonsense with his brother... big deal.   This is a nothing issue that you seem to want to make into a mountain worth dying on.  The issue isn't what these guys were doing in their off time... the issue is what they were doing in their preparation time.  They clearly weren't listening to the coaches, and the coaches clearly didn't know what to do anyway.   Kelce's podcast would be about reason #251 for what went wrong with this team.   This is nonsense.

That's the check the coaches gave him against the blitz. It's insane.

Only after his WRs didnt receive the proper signal from him....
