Not going to come down to that at all.... going to come down to the ability to spread the cap hit and the length of the deal. Eagles aren't going to cut him especially with huge dead cap.  He's a solid player that's very young. He's going to get paid, just in a way that benefits the Eagles cap.

Dallas will screw that up too as they won't get the deal done this year when they should.  They will justify a 5th year option lower than Smith and think it's a bargain even though it counts 100% vs the cap and then they will pat Parsons the big contract with zero leverage on cap hits.   Clockwork .

Sure...they would like to have everything done before the offseason gets underway.  But going past May 2nd isn't going to change any deal.    The other players in front of him have to set the market.   Smith knows the 5th year option is there... no shot the Eagles don't use it.   Has zero to do with anything regarding how much he will get paid.

Signing bonus sets it up where it creates huge " dead money" which costs more to cut a player than keep him... that's the guarantee that a player needs.   

The player doesn't  need guaranteed money when the contract is set up to where it costs the team more to cut him than pay him.  That's how these contracts are written.  The guarantee number is for show in 75% of the cases.

So with Smith locked up now with an extension.... Milton is probably the only decision they have to make on keeping...but I think both sides let it play out.

Wow... so this deadline of May 2nd was meaningless...  the Eagles extension includes the exercising of the 5th year option.  

Some expert on here who likes to think he knows everything ...kept making a big deal out of this May 2nd deadline.   Perhaps at some point now he can realize his knowledge of managing the cap and what actually matters in contracts needs a lot of work. 

Now we can see cap hits comparison between Smith....and Lamb when he gets his deal.

Smart to lock him in now and keep the tandem together. Now to add TE2 and a capable slot guy and I could run this offense. Hurts should have zero issues finding receivers to deliver the ball to. On the slot guy,I would like to have one who is capable of getting near the GL or taking it to the house from 40 yards out. Parker should be a viable slot when we are inside the 20. maybe Paris in the slot on the grind down the field. Still I would like to draft the future slot guy and there are many available with a round 5 pick. Definitely a WIP,but we are in no rush for a DT. he plays 3 tech,so that part is already in place. He has flashes of brilliance, followed by meh lay offs. No idea what causes this, but getting a paycheck could fix that issue HAHAHA. Money can motivate him. Round 5 may be a bit high for him. We'll see if a better DT falls into the gap where we pick

You don’t think DeVonta’s agent understands how Rosie doesn’t wish to have that fifth year option money all hitting next year’s cap? Things do change if we have to exercise that fifth year option officially.
