Let’s say Fangio was only at Siri levels of coaching the D. He lets opponents just pick and choose the matchups on us all game every week. Ringo and DeJean will struggle. Versus the number Two or Three WR? They both seem capable of developing and growing to handle those for the most part very well. But number One WR? Be brutal!!!!! Last season…move your number One against Slay or Q. Not sweating some matchup weakness. But take my list….i had to make answering the question FL wouldn’t just answer so easily. Any of those guys would feast on Ringo or DeJean. Have to Double team…

I don’t disagree with what you are saying, but Q will simply be following the #1 receiver in a matchup zone scheme. We played matchup zone the whole Super Bowl.

Most could not block period.

Agreed. So why force a square peg into a round hole, especially when you already have Calcaterra here, who is a plus receiver and a plus move (H-Back) blocker?

if there was a need at TE for the future why did we ignore them in the last draft?

Because it’s the present….present we have Goedert and Calc. Still possible to retain either player. Goedert I really doubt returns. Calc very possible though…because he’s cheap. Now…what was your statement about me wanting the top and head at every position? Didn’t actually apply at all to what I stated…but more fitting to what you just said. Can’t splurge a high pick on every position. TEs went high too.

The short answer would be: we are looking to be repeat Champions. One more season with Goedert. His price too high…but…like I’ve tried to explain previously..you have to complete the championship. So go after value big time…..but you can’t just skip a key piece to the championship roster…overpay…HAVE to get the job done as a GM.

How does Slay being gone mandate man coverage?

You went on to explain that you expect Q to be shadowing the best receiver of the opposition, but in Fangio’s zone, the Boundary CBs consistently cover the outside receivers. So flipping Ringo and Q from one side to another into the respective outside zones would still be zone not man.

Help me better understand your logic.

Try and look at things from the opposite perspective here…what would the OC do in these situations? Zone….isn’t that difficult to take advantage of. Schotty will just send Lamb on routes freeing him from Q coverage. Most any quality level O mind …this stuff is child’s play for them. Forget the example of Siri’s limitations

We have a good team. Good depth. Some quality prospects with potential. I’ll volunteer at S probably cutting a quality player. Not really sure who anybody would be talking about much otherwise.

We will almost surely cut a quality player at RB. Probably two, maybe even three at WR. One quality OL. One, possibly two DTs. One OLB (Johnson). At least one Safety.

But if you are matching up Q on every team’s number one WR? Which in my mind is already viewed as fact…in July even. Just makes the most sense to Man Q up consistently. Follow your Man…because that’s clearly going to be a need…clearly great situation for us to have Q that can handle the job….but if you don’t let him Man up? Then you have Q moving matching up…but then after the snap…he’s going to pass off coverage of that number one to others in their zones?

I agree with you that normal zone is exploitable, but Fangio’s light box zone is a different animal. First, there is one less seam between zones to exploit. Second, the ability to disguise is much easier in Fangio’s zone. In the SB he never blitzed, but often had a LB rushing while one of the front four dropped back into the zone vacated by the rushing LB. Much much harder to do that in Man coverage … plus the QB can use motion to read how the "men” are deployed.

We have a clear hierarchy needed in coverage. Man D exactly dictates that situation for us. Q on the number one….Ringo and DeJean on the others. I’m pretty high on both Ringo and DeJean. Don’t want that getting twisted. But worst case matchup each week for us would be opponents number one on them. Ringo I’m not really even worried about starting for us. But can’t put him in positions consistently covering Ja’Marr Chase. He’ll look like garbage if we allow that.

Which guys? I agree on S…but nothing to back up that statement for any guys otherwise at this point. What player do we cut doesn’t even just easily clear waivers we can just put on the PS? Lowest bar possible…let’s start there.

In that scenario Q is simply in one of the matchup outside zones.

So any O mind…beyond Siri…which one can’t easily take advantage of that consistently? Not saying Zones won’t work. But see if you can think of a WR route that would guarantee that number one WR would let be in Q zone coverage.

Don’t forget Slot. Don’t want to just give Dallas a free pass by lining up Lamb in the Slot all game.

RB is one from Shipley/Dillon/Johnson

WR is two or three from Wilson, Smith, Gray, Marshall, and the kid from Tarleton State

OL is one from Keegan, Kinnard, Williams, Minton, Pierce, Tate

DT is Young and Hall

You said top 10 make up your mind and once again list all the QB's each had to make them top 10. As you can see by YOUR OWN LIST all these WR's had very good QB's

Ten is probably about right. I’m fine with that. But…he’s in a lower tier than the top elite guys…don’t care what QB. All these guys don’t have very good QBs. Dak, Cousins, Darnold, who all did AJ have in Tennessee? Nabers had Goof ball. Tyreek had Tua. Jayden Daniels is sick! Start there. Rookie season…money. He never looked like a rookie at all. Very elite QB play in Washington last season…for sure!!!!!

DeJean is the best matchup for Lamb inside. You don’t want Q moving inside.

FL you missed everything I witnessed Daniels do last season. He was incredible! Elite level of QB play!!!! Exactly what got them to the NFC Chamiponship game….it was Daniels!!!

As you pointed out, Lamb in the Slot, but moving Q inside to cover him is suboptimal compared to DeJean covering him.

They have a good QB now,why wou;dn't he want to paid? Because he will be BETTER as Daniels gets better

I’m saying he’s demanding to get paid indeed. He’s in position for a new contract. My point was: just how large a payday he’ll bend them over for?

Ja’Marr earning 40 mil. You paying McLauren in that ballpark?

Smitty we paid like 25 mil

Just now, GreenbleedinNC said:

Sorry, but I have to laugh my ass off. Of COURSE QB's matter. What a foolish statement

I didn’t ever say QBs don’t matter about anything. I said never been a QB that makes McLauren better than Ja’Marr ..or at AJ tier. Also pointed out….DANIELS Played AT ELITE QB level last season.

Not a whole lot more you could ask any QB ever to do than Daniels did last season. He killed it!

1 minute ago, GreenbleedinNC said:

It should be close

Should be closer to Smitty…quality wise in a vacuum. McLaren isn’t worth Jefferson, AJ…..on and on top nonQB pay.

That’s the thing…it’s not just top of position pay…it’s top of all nonQB players level pay. He’s not that guy….very good….

So what QB makes McLaren better than Jefferson? Jefferson has…Darnold…and Cousins…nothing elite.

3 minutes ago, GreenbleedinNC said:

Because he has Burrow throwing to him and not some 3rd rate dipsheet? If Mclaurin wants a long term deal with Daniels at QB he should get it

Wrong!!! Because he’s the best WR possibly in NFL history. Now Daniels elite QB rookie season…is third rate *****? Do you watch football?
