Right, we have to choose between Weru and Uar. One needs to be on the 53

With Lemon having come back, it would not surprise me to see Stowers start the year on IR thanks to his hamstring injury. That would give Howie another 53-man slot. I also expect the Long Snapper to be a roster cut with the Practice Squad as a destination. That would also be a slot maximization move.

I believe Fred Johnson is a poor attributes match to Mannion’s scheme, but a good match to other NFL schemes and Howie will look to trade him and pick up a cut casualty OT who matches the needs of the Mannion scheme better. But he won’t be in any rush to do so. So my roster is

QB - 3 - 3

RB - 3 - 6

WR - 6 - 12 with Moore in and Covey to the PS

TE - 3 - 15 with Mundt and Latu behind Goedert

OL - 11 - 26 with 5 starters plus Bell, Kendall, Lampkin, Morris, Majors, and Fred or his replacement.

Edge - 6 - 32 includes 5 plus Weru

DT - 6 - 38 includes 5 plus Bernard

LB - 4 - 42 Chance Campbell was my Final Cut

Kicker - 1 - 43

Punter - 1 - 44

DBs - 9 - 53

Doesn’t UAR count as an exception because of the international rules???? Idk how that works anymore but thought we could keep him and it doesn’t effect the PS or 53 man roster

The rule changed last year. As it now stands the international roster position is on the Practice Squad (a 17th slot), not the 53-man. Further, a player filling that slot has to be cut, and then pass through waivers, before he can be placed in that slot. Once on the Practice Squad he still can be poached by another team.

Steele was a big time ST player for the Chiefs last season

Good to know like I stated was unsure how he was as a STer just knew that Latu was talked as one of our better STers last season makes for a much more interesting battle between the two guys.

Still lean Latu but that because Stowers doesn’t seem ready to the point I’m wondering if we try and sneak him on IR to free up a roster spot.

Yeah but Weru is also an international, you only get one I believe

Weru seems like he could be useful even as a depth call up. Uar is obviously a year+ away

just can't see Howie putting Stowers on the PS

PS no I’m imaging IR probably with an "injury” and yes I don’t think the injury will be real but we will still say he is hurt

Curious take you think Stowers could get hit with a "injury” and placed on IR basically given a RS year in the NFL…. Feel like it is a known thing teams fake injuries at this point.

From the reports I heard it's not looking promising for Stowers to contribute much in a helpful way. I'm thinking IR for a hangnail or bruised (Not a knock on Stowers lol) uterus. I believe Stowers will make a nice weapon once healthy.

Steele needs another impressive game. OR we limit his touches so he becomes less desirable for other teams and drop him on the PS. I just can't see Howie putting Stowers on the PS

Couldn't Stowers be put on IR?

A LS has to be on the 53. What team goes without a LS? It's like P and K. You're going to have to cut someone else

LS can be on the PS and be one of the game day call ups.

Mundt and Latu are basically useless if Goedert goes down. Both are blockers not really pass catchers, that's why we got Stowers. No way Howie puts his 2nd rounder on the PS. If you did may as well just kiss him goodbye

If …

If DG goes down Howie will have a week to address that hole with a player other than Mundt or Latu.

He wouldn’t be able to get Stowers through waivers, so PS is not an option

Not the board for it but still needs to be mentioned RIP to Dolly Parton who passed away today at 80 years old country music legend

HUGE loss. She helped so many people in and out of the music biz. We lost an ICON. Never was a country fan much, but you can't deny her influence. She had class, style, a sense of humor, and she was a terrific business woman. She came from having NOTHING. The American dream in the flesh

She had morals and integrity. Two things now on the endangered species list. I was never a fan, not into country but she always had my utmost respect. Always thought the jug jokes were very cheap, lame and undignified.

You get 3 call ups and he would need called up all 3 weeks then onto the 53 anyhow, what is the point?

The point is not to have to cut Majors.

1 hour ago, GreenbleedinNC said:

You'd have to cut one after week 3 anyway, so let's just get it out of the way and concentrate on the team we have. I don't think we need to extend pre season 3 more weeks as a distraction. I've never known any team to PS their LS. Set the 53 and let's get on with it, so obviously we disagree. I don't need 2 guys at each others throat knowing after the season starts ,1 wins and gets on the 53 and the other goes to the PS. I don't like that distraction. I don't believe that would be fair to the players either.

You might not have to cut anyone after Week Three depending on what the injury realities are in those first three games. Keep your options open.

Does anyone have safety Gushiken making 53? I know he's had a nice camp. But can he over come his height deficit against the big dog WR's?

Stowers will be/should be ready at some point. You're not going to find a fill in for Goedert. It would take time for anyone coming in to learn things. You're talking about 2-3 weeks. I don't see bringing in anyone of value. The offense would just need to alter itself with those snaps going elsewhere if Stowers is still lagging IMO

You are joking. Stowers will be ready at some point? What is this Fantasy league? We need a productive second tight end, above all positions right now for this offense to function. Maybe Howie can trade for one. Perhaps Raiders? Maybe Rams? Because currently we only have one tight end, and we have a lot of barely functional Third level TE. In my opinion this is by far the most glaring hole. Stowers can not block. I do not know what he will be able to do, but I do not see him contributing this year at all.

either way, stowers has looked lost out there. that said there is reason to be hopeful for him going forward.

from mannion ....

"He’s getting better each day. He's a younger player we are really excited about... There [are] a lot of different elements of the game that get thrown at you, especially for a rookie tight end. Some of the differences schematically that NFL offenses will ask of you as opposed to a college offense, he's taken to it really well. Some of the things may go unseen. They might not show up on the stat sheet, but he's working super hard. He's an exciting young talent... He's doing a nice job, and he'll keep getting better."

The comments make sense when considering Stowers' background. While no one expected that he would immediately challenge Dallas Goedert for a starting role, the Eagles are betting on his long-term upside. Stowers began his college career as a quarterback and didn't transition to tight end full-time until transferring to the Vanderbilt Commodores for his final two seasons of eligibility.

Maybe we go 5 WR's and 4 TE's and keep Calc around? Stowers lack of progress puts us in a bind.

If Calcaterra is kept around, it will be on the practice squad

2 hours ago, GreenbleedinNC said:

Why? He is the only other TE who can even have a shot at pass catching if Stowers is not ready, so once again I disagree. We'd be in bad shape at TE if Geodert went down week 1. Who else do we have? And please don't try to sell me that we could "just go out and find one" LOL. At any rate we'll know Sunday. Mundt has no real experience at it, neither does Latu and Stowers will take a little time. Of course we could always throw Stowers into the fire and hope which would be the alternative

If Goedert went down in the Week 1 game on Sunday, Howie would put him on IR and elevate Calcaterra from the Practice Squad to fill the roster slot vacated by Goedert. Goedert would be TE4 if retained on the 53-man, and barring an injury would not dress on game day. How is being inactive on game day and on the 53-man any different from being inactive and on the Practice Squad? Inactive is inactive.

Hurts with 13 ints in practice this year compared to the 15 in the last 4 years of training camp. He sure is going to have a record year this year but it's going to be record ints.

They were all designed as part of practice.

So you're guaranteeing me Calc won't get poached off the PS? And now you're putting Goedert on the PS???? Really? it's different because teams can't poach players off the 53 Inactive or otherwise

First post = didn't the Eagles have the LS on the practice squad last year?

With Calc, he could have easily signed with another team this past offseason. The fact that he didn't kinda makes it logical to think he wouldn't get poached from the practice squad.

Personally, I think he could get poached, but not right away, would probably be if a team had an injury to a top 2 TE. And in that case, still might not get poached.

No. Goedert on IR.

Of course I can’t guarantee he won’t get claimed. But what player are you cutting to keep him?

And if he is vested he can refuse the poach offer.

The same guy you're cutting to keep Latu who is a BU to Mundt (blocking TE's). So do you want a BU for Goedert or Mundt? Simple to understand, that's all it comes down to and I personally would rather have a BU for Goedert, but no matter it will all be done by Sunday. I want Goedert, Mundt, Stowers and Calc. You want Goedert. Mundt, Stowers and Latu. There is no wrong answer just whatever your opinion is

This can be done by reducing WR's from 6 to 5. Not that I like this option, but Stowers lack of progress should be addressed by having 4 TE's. I am not happy with this, but it may be what we have to do
