We have a game in Brazil this year…UGH!

I always wanted to go to Brazil. Bucket list of going to Carnival in Rio. Biggest craziest party in the whole world. Just gorgeous voluptuous women I’ve always been a sucker for. Those I’ve met in the know warn that going to Rio for Carnival is a near setup trap though that attracts all the worst thieves and worse. That if all you get is your wallet snatched consider yourself lucky. So an Eagles game down there highly entices me. I’ve at least had a slight dabble in French, German and Spanish. Not a single clue about understanding…much less speaking Portuguese. So much of the world has a fair amount of their population that speaks English. Brazil I can’t believe would be high at all on that list. French, German or Spanish I could put a little time in to learn and become passable enough. Already been to Germany. Been to Spanish speaking countries. Struggled my short quick visit to France. Portuguese would take me a massive investment and effort to get to anything remotely passable levels to do anything but rely on translation. Internet has really improved on translating. So I’d be completely relying on whichever source I used to translate. Played games and such with people all over the world. So have a good amount of experience with communicating through completely different cultures while relying on it converting through being translated. It’s a challenge. Got keep things especially basic. Only once you experience a situation trying to communicate with such different cultures do you have any clue how much we all communicate with ideas being expressed based on what only we experience in our world. Movie, music, slang..all these references so normal. They don’t know what you are referencing…or get the meaning of our sayings. That’s before you even are talking about how that comes through being translated.

I can't really remember. Worse than Kotite?

Kotite…I was possibly leaning Ray Rhodes. Chip Kelly had a good winning record here…but totally disagree with his brand of football being any thing to achieve much of anything real with. Endless fast paced O that ran so many plays each game…even forcing games to feature more possessions and plays to work with no matter what the results were…yet it was the most opportunities created that was utilized by running the fewest selection of plays each week. Wanting to play fast more than most teams could work. But throwing any D out to the wolves like that isn’t concluding in successful NFL football.

Yep…think that 11 win team was the worst glaringly bad coached season of them all. Can’t point to a single game that the team played well throughout. Can’t point to either side of the ball ever looking crisp. Or gelled together. Looked like a bunch of individuals playing even in the best of times.

🤣🤣🤣😂😆 MVP MVP MVP MVP

Say what. LMAO I don't remember saying this.

What team on any team..ever…did the coaches lose more than what we just witnessed? Had a shot at the top seed. Yet this team at the end couldn’t beat anybody. Pulled that single Giants win out of their butts. Took everything they could muster to win at home versus that lowly team. Look back now just believing that was a miracle for this group. 5 win team. With no real firepower on either side of the ball.

I can point to plenty of teams we fielded that maybe had talented players but lacked character and leadership. But how could anybody even hint at the 2023 Eagles squad lacking players leadership? Hurts, Kelce, Lane, Fletch, Slay, Elliott, BG….stacked with quality player leadership. That group can’t lead you through pretty much anything? You won’t find a stronger group to do better.

I won’t defend every bad mistake Hurts made this season. He had crap to work with though honestly. Locker room talk from our players was our O was predictable and slow developing. Got AJ, DeVonta, Goedert and Swift having guys that aren’t named Jalen Ramsey eating up knowing the expected route. Those four guys it should be such a remote rarity any team league wide should have covered those four so well on hardly any plays. Witnessed so many plays down that last stretch of games where they all struggled to find any real separation.
What are you asking any QB to do with playcalls and no answers on plays where expecting the blitz was clearly obvious. You going to go empty backfield to take away any adjustment possible to pass block with? While having the receiving routes being anything other than quick. AR/Pedey anything we saw from them the WR and QB would expect a blitz read meant cut your route off. Pro football here. It shouldn’t just be up to the QB. WR gotta adjust. You could try and blame the QB on not audibling to a better play. But coaches should have been explaining a solution of what they expected the audibles adjustment to be. Felt like all QB1 could do was change it to a WR screen as the only real blitz killing option provided. Tells me it’s all in the coaches. Whole stadium knows the blitz is coming. Yet coach calls such a bad play call anyway. Never showed any sign of any answers they were trying to provide Jalen he just wasn’t following.

Too good of talent we had pass catching. Too good of talent across the Oline. All those level guys being covered and the blocking not providing protection? Why was Hurts put in so many positions to take a S or be flushed out of bounds to make the mistake of taking a two yard loss instead of throwing the ball away? In the best of times during 2023 our O revolved around Hurts scrambling to avoid pressure giving a bunch of extra time for the receivers to do their thing for him to get them the ball. Just a big play approach looking for a QB to hold the ball longer than any O should even believe consistently possible.

Just kept begging for any quick passing game for most of the season. Then near the end they finally threw like three quick slants to AJ. Worked wildly successful. In my book something should have always been obvious. But not figuring it out…even after watching it work? They all saw it happen. Never came back to it after it was plastered right in their faces. Can’t self scout and figure out the answers is bad enough. But to see the answer and still have it not click? What can you do with anybody doing that?

The most obvious coaching I saw come through was the O staff had been clearly focusing on changing Hurts to avoid taking the hits. Do believe there is some need there to have him to make it through the long season. Him being available being so key to the team success. So limiting his risk is a good coaching point. Rather not convert a first down if it meant Hurts trying to take on two guys fighting for the sticks. Team shouldn’t have needed him to carry them to success every game and often. Enough talent on O shouldn’t have needed so much from the QB position.

But it didn’t work out well at all. Had Hurts trying to go against his instincts. Felt like the coaching was so revolving around him avoiding taking hits he wasn’t looking to attack. What I witnessed from Hurts all season that I couldn’t stand the most. Most of his worst plays I attribute to seeing this from him. I’m all for lowering the risk on our QB and that he’s the top key to our success being achievable week to week. But gotta find some balance much better than what we just saw. Can’t take the killer instinct away from Hurts like that. He does need to lower his risk. Needs to learn to get down before taking those big hits. Throw the ball away to fight another play. But can’t have that materialize as the main coaching point that shows up on the field.

I’ll be the only Eagles fan to bash the Brotherly Shove. Incredibly high rate of success on that play. But the toll our players took I believe was very heavy. So many plays over the course of the long NFL season. I believe this play put massive abuse to our Oline and QB’s bodies. Massive pile up every week. Bad enough how crazy the contact was just initially by a D that fully expects the play is coming. All 11 defenders crunched in being involved. I never run life because of being afraid or fear. But I want nothing to do with any NFL pile up situation. Just nasty and the dirtiest stuff going on down there. By the biggest strongest guys possible. Add to that after we embarrass the defense every time by converting the play into them giving up a first down.

Believe if they do outlaw the play will actually be for the best. We couldn’t be stopped converting it on historic levels of success. But at what cost? Everybody else are the ones against that play. But really should be us realizing how bad it was for us.

Our game is on a Friday in Sao Paolo Brazil.

Sao Paolo is only 2 hrs ahead of us, long flight tho

Freaking cool to me. I’m from Idaho and lived in Brazil for about a year and a half a long time ago. My profile name of senhorcook is Mr Cook in Portuguese, which I speak fluently after living there. Brazilians have a faint interest in the game, but they are ALL soccer fans. My obsession with the Eagles made a few friends there interested. They are crazy excited that it’s the Eagles that will be there. I wish I could go actually. Super cool.

4 hours ahead of me in the Mountain time zone. And a LOT farther away for a flight. I’ve never been there beyond the airport. Rio is an AWESOME city to spend time in. So if anyone goes, make time to go and spend time in Rio. Sao Paulo is massive…may not be anymore, but for a long time it was the 2nd largest city by population in the world.

So true. Learning Portuguese was one of the most difficult things I ever did. Got to the point I spoke it well enough to tell locals that I was from Southern Brazil, and they bought it. Spoke the slang from 1990. Went back 10 years ago to visit friends and they all laughed at me when I used the "old”slang. Had to "catch up” on the new stuff. Still facetime with friends every so often to keep my language skills as NOBODY in Boise speaks it.  Haha. Lots of wonderful people there! Yes, crime is much more prevalent. Keys: dont be a loud mouth dueche. And pay attention where you are at night. And dont carry much cash with you EVER. Keep your flashy watch in the hotel and use your cell phone cautiously. No problem then.

Is there anyway you believe it’s based on him not being amongst the top 32 best options as a HC?

Yes... in 2024 the reports were that the main factor is the owners believe he lost touch with how to coach the modern players.   The league looks for the fresh ideas and approach.

I think Belicheck would be a great defensive coordinator.   Defensive strategist...etc.   For me,that's where it ends right now.  Dude had a great run in the long middle of his head coaching career with Tom Brady...  the before and after ... not good at all.

Would be a great road game....the locals who go to the home games aren't thrilled.... being it is the " Philadelphia " Eagles.

Curious to see if Dallas plays 9 games in their stadium this year... on top of never traveling for a Thursday game after playing on a Sunday.

The best thing though is that it's week. 1 and not going to mess up and travel or rest during the season.

I’ve been in the minority opinion with my thinking about Fields amongst this board. You guys seem to have seen things to make you think he can be a franchise guy that can take a team there(win big games).

Fields has produced when given the chance he has made big time throws that guys have dropped…. The supporting cast is a factor… not sure Fields is a franchise guy or not but again throw Hurts in Chicago he is going to look bad throw Mahomes with NO OL no WRs he going to look like SB lose Mahomes with no OL just scrambling for his life.

Personally feel like the bears aren’t in a position to succeed with any QB so if ride with Fields gain capital and strengthen the roster get Alt the best T get Harrison Jr at WR.

If Fields flops fine you should still have multiple picks in the next couple drafts to get a new QB and should still have a high pick

I even look at Stroud who I think is amazing and I believe he is better then Bryce Young… But if they were to switch situations not sure Stroud does much better in Carolina they are just a bad team horrible OL meh WRs to support the QB all around tough spot for any QB

Just to further my point. Put Hurts at QB take away all our all pro OL(all our backups)with Gainwell at RB, only one WR(Smith) on top of bad coaching(though bears staff started to get something going toward the end)

Now picture Fields… Hurts looked terrible end of year and he still had good players around him just bad coaching, Fields had bad players, and coaching

Question for the older fans here who have watched the game since the 60s-70s

Staubach, Bradshaw, Tarkenton, Montana,  Elway, Young,  Favre...  I would consider all those QBs as mobile guys.

This " the game has evolved " BS argument that you need a dual threat at QB...not a statue.   I disagree... I think the top QBs always could move.  Just that we went through an era where Manning and Brady were probably the least mobile of the top QBs who dominated their era...  so the perception is that it's some huge evolution,  when reality is just the slower guys were at the top recently.

You can throw Brees in there I guess...but even then, Big Ben, Rodgers, Wilson... they all were guys that could move.

I don't see some big evolution here... it's always been guys that can avoid the sack have been successful.   Still the top guys need to see the field and make the throws.
