What sucks is you have a guy playing like our best defender that totally would choose to play for us that we pay just to get rid of and play for the Jets. But are stuck with over the hill Bradberry. Doubled down paying Slay that looked like he went over the hill not long after we trade for him. So it’s not even like we full on are rebuilding with youth and clearing cap. 

BG is one of our biggest cap hits…but at least he earned it here.

We are setting up for life after this Niners championship window. They have this season…maybe one more before having to significantly change things up.

Right....when a QB turns the ball unnecessarily or takes an unnecessary sack or safety...that is the QBs fault.   

On those same plays, there can be missed blocks and receivers who don't get open.    Still doesn't excuse a QB from making things worse. 

Part of being an a QB is to avoid making a play worse.

Why didn't they pay him?  Why didn't Dallas pay Lamb?    Why did the Eagles pay AJ and Smith while both were under contract at least 2 more years?

The contract...written like most NFL contracts.... used the signing bonus to put money in Reddick's pocket ... the cap hits were low the first 2 years... designed to roll the space forward... the 3rd year cap hit was pretty much fixed to make it $32 mil hitting in year 3.    The leftover $13 mil hit in year 4, if he played here in year 3.

So the UNEDUCATED person who doesn't understand business...thinks that the Eagles are paying Reddick now to play for the Jets.  But the reality is that the contract was set up to where the first 2 years of his play was set up to hit the cap over 3 years.  

The 3rd year of play was set up to hit the cap year 4.

The Eagles decided to skip the 3rd year of play....and not only save the cap hit ( the savings comes the following year) ..but also get a day 2 pick

They chose to make it 2026, with the idea the Jets are making a one year play with Rodgers.     Which,  by the fact that they haven't committed to pay Reddick after this year, looks to be the case.

But No Mas....the Eagles are taking a $21 mil cap hit  now and Reddick isn't even playing...  they didn't write the contract correctly, as they should have paid him the $32 million the first 2 years to avoid this cap hit....and have more cap space. 

Well little Johnny...  you see that's not how the math works.    If the Eagles took the $32 million cap hit prior to this year....then they wouldn't have had the unused cap space roll forward.

So it's a wash.. but it was a way to get Reddick paid and give the team the flexibility to do other things and then decide what to do with him going into year 3. 

They decided to move on from him to a younger player in Huff, that would also allow Smith to develop ...all while getting a day 2 draft pick.

One guy always says that the meat of the draft is day 2.

Let's say one decides to purchase the classic book...." Wedding planning for dummies".... the cost of $12.    You have the option of paying all $12 up front...or paying $1 / month for a year. 

Either way it costs you $12...because as you pay the $1 in future months, the idea is you had the entire $12 at the start and so the money is there to pay as you go.

The same way the NFL contracts work in the way they impact the salary cap.

They’ve been to two SBs and four out of five NFC Championship games….they’ve been handling things pretty well. They seem to understand the concept of being ‘all in.’ ‘All in’ means they aren’t trying to trade Aiyuck even though paying him might not be on the plans.

It’s called not being ‘all in’ and the practice of massively backloading contracts. So much so the best option was to suck up 21.5 mil on the cap and ship him off to play for the Jets. Brilliant!
