How you have to defend Geodart is completely different then how you have to defend a WR We are struggling with finding the slot and TE2 and have been for awhile now. Both would be nice, but we need at least 1

Teams know it and defend the outsides.. Hurts needs that middle of the field threat.Move the chains first, worry about YAC later, those will come. Edelman/ Amendola bailed out the GOAT Brady The windows have been there Hurts just doesn’t favor the middle Of the field…. Part of that was coaching not designing plays over the middle other part is Hurts height and him not being able to see over the OL.
August 19, 20242 yr Author If we are all in we need to fix one of those IMO. We have capable slots, but they are all hurt now
August 19, 20242 yr Have to image with Moore he looks at things that Sean Payton did for Brees or Carroll in Seattle with Wilson…. Moving the pocket around maybe Hurts dropping little deeper then a normal 3,5,7 step drop back… anything that can aid him to see better over the OL or through the passing lanes

IDK that I ever say him in the middle. I think that is why Wilson looked so good,he gave Hurts a big target

I think that is why Wilson looked so good,he gave Hurts a big target That was coaching on Quez not sure his size was an issue but definitely see something about our route tree under Siri/Johnson and we had almost no routes that went over the middle of the field. They wanted to play to Hurts strengths in favoring the outside but in reality just hurt the team by eliminating such a huge area of the field to attack teams. Much easier to defend if you have little to no concerns in defending the center of the field.

I'd like to see Hurts do that instead of take of all the time after 1 read. Saying Hurts looks sharp,so he has the confidence growing. Now give him some targets and teach him to sidestep. I enjoyed watching Drew play

They failed to understand the 1 yard out routes don't work because the sideline is an added defender. They really stuffed Goedert by design. That's not who he is. he is the "Im gonna hurt you" like Kelce. Goedert could not do that being boxed in on the sideline, yet they kept running that same BS play
August 19, 20242 yr Crazy how a position like CB that looked like such a weakness a year ago is looking like a more strength this season. Slay not the same as he once was but still a pretty good CB, Rodgers-the forgotten man seems like he will start outside next to Slay. Ringo- been neck and neck with Rodgers for the outside job gives us a solid 3rd option outside in case of injury Mitchell- who probably going to start in the slot. DeJean- who got hurt coming back from hamstring but was in the mix before that injury. And the bigger thing 4/5 of those guys are still young

The only way you get YAC is if the defense allows you to LOL.. There are no YAC "creators". if you have the twitch anyone can get YAC.But that "twitch" guy is what we need in the slot. ASMith has it,but they haven't let him play enough to showcase his skills. perhaps he isn't cutting it in camp. Metchie has that twitch also. JJ is a master at it That’s because we are talking about two different things. Any guy that’s twitchy with speed and good with the ball in his hands can perform these YAC Creation plays. But that’s totally different than performing all the duties of being a full time Slot WR. That’s even though you could produce a few YAC Creation plays lined up initially in the slot.

August 19, 20242 yr FL like I’ve clarified many times before I roll technically stats wise called runs into the YAC Creation plays department. Reverse and (yes No Mas) screens, Jet Sweeps…

Guy like Tyreke outrunning guys is him creating YAC with his speed…. Do agree that it isn’t the most important factor though can’t create YAC if you don’t get open and CATCH the ball first. This isn’t what I’m talking about though. Yes, you always want to throw to a guy that creates YAC after he catches the ball. But I extensively this summer been discussing these specific plays designed and purpose of being YAC creation groups of plays. Not just talking about every single route run and then the receiver what he dies after the catch. These are short yardage or behind the line even plays that only are effective based on the YAC created.
August 19, 20242 yr 50 minutes ago, GreenbleedinNC said: Everyone wants that. But Ham thinks there are "specialists". I don't. If you can break tackles great,if you have outstanding speed, great. We all want that like the other 31 teams. But the slot guys first responsibility is getting the first down, move the chains. Let your "star" players get the YAC Not what I’ve been talking about. Exactly why I’ve gone to lengths explaining what I’m talking about with these YAC Creation plays. Last couple of years our really only capable guy to utilize has been Goedert the TE. Very specific details a player needs to follow to make these a success….plus obviously have the skill traits to actually make it happen.
August 19, 20242 yr 54 minutes ago, GreenbleedinNC said: Yeah give the QB a window to throw to,that should be the first consideration. A guy like Edelman, that 3rd and 4 guy Edelman was great at YAC creation. But he also was nearly unstoppable at getting open in a phone booth(a reference only old people can understand LOL).

Certain players are good with the ball in their hands but not great at route running, tracking the ball…you name it…but if you get the ball in their hands they are dangerous. Britain Covey is a perfect candidate for these. Other than the fact he’s so tiny and fragile he’ll get killed if he’s relied on too much for it.
August 19, 20242 yr FL you mentioned how you read DeJean’s coach wanted to put him on O even. He’s good with the ball in his hands. Excellent return man. These YAC Creation groups of plays are what he’d be running.

The YAC will come, there are no "specialists". If you have the talent for getting open those yards will come. You treat them like they are 2 different guys. Why would we want a "non specialist"? The big Power TE's will fight for YAC,the slot guy is usually small and fast,he will rely on speed to get open. You could put a bigger slot in if it's a mismatch like Wilson COULD be. Any player with a mismatch will get YAC,that is the point of having a twitch(aka cone and shuttle drills in the combine). Why do you think they run those?.

Shouldn't every player WR TE RB be a YAC guy? Isn't that what we pay them for? Doesn't every one of those guys try to gain as many yards as possible?

You can attack the middle with AJ, Smith, Geodart, etc. options where their we just didn’t…. Hurts has never favored the middle go back to his college days it’s a legitimate thing that plagues smaller QBs. And it’s the coaches jobs to find ways to get around that don’t think our coaches have done that instead leaned into Hurts favoring the outside and not using the middle
