However, the EU also is fully dependent on oil/gas from outside and will be in big financial trouble if the Strait remains closed. The EU would also possibly have to turn to Russia for energy again which would be terrible. Getting involved would have zero to do with Trump or the US and everything to do with protecting the EU.
