No, they didn’t, because an insurance company can’t close a body of water.

Insurance companies can raise premiums or cancel coverage as a result of increased risk. It’s the increased risk of being fired upon when going through the strait that resulted in ships not trying to enter it, not insurance companies reacting to that risk.

Just because our moron President said "these ships should show some guts and sail through the strait, Iran has no navy they can’t do anything” (only for a ship to then get destroyed trying to pass through the strait hours later) doesn’t mean that the strait was free of risk.

It's like, if there was a group of armed men sitting outside my home saying "if you leave your front door and try to walk down the street, we are going to murder you." and then my life insurance company called me and said "hey so we just want to let you know, if you knowingly walk out your door right now while those guys with guns are sitting there ready to shoot you when you open the door, then we're not going to pay out your life insurance claim", and then me going and telling my wife and kids "Guys, you're not going to believe this. Our life insurance company has barricaded us inside the house and we can't leave because of them"

And that's the exact corner DieHardOnAHillFan painted himself into. The second he acknowledges that Iran was actively making threats (and backing it up) to cause an insurance company to take that position, he has to admit that they closed the strait, not the insurance company.

Iran had a navy and was gone quickly. It was laughable then and now to think our navy wouldn't take them out.

Later in March did they with rockets after their minister said they didn't close it and after the insurance companies closed traffic in early March? Yes.

There is a reason it started with Trump offering to underwrite things. The insurance companies closed it by pulling coverage weeks earlier.
