Nuclear war is the most straightforward pretext to assume full blown war powers and bypass elections all together. None of the back door options like installing a puppet will work if he has cratered in popularity and he can't steal an election if he's headed for a blowout.

I think it's time to stop pretending he isn't evil enough to do it. The "dove" schtick was the only thing making it incredulous before and that is long gone. If he nuked Iran tomorrow, Procus/Diehard and pretty much every MAGA you know, would cheer it on. That's where we're at.

I am fully aware, trust me. I'm flying to Riga on Sunday with my wife, her brother, brother's son, and old grandma (left Latvia on a fishing boat at night when she was 8). Putin is threatening Latvia the last week or so and they've had two days this week with air raid sirens due to drones hanging about somewhere over the Latvian border. At least one was a wayward Ukranian drone. Putin's claim is that Latvia is hosting Ukraine and their drone pilots in Latvia so they can hit deeper into Russia. Putin says they will do what is necessary. The NATO summit is in Sweden today and tomorrow.

I don't think they'd let him. His cult voters would cheer for it but I don't think congress would actually allow it

While I doubt a nuke will be used, its quite obvious Trump, Hesgeth, and a few other WANT to use one soooo bad. That's scary in itself IMO.

Waiting to see the fine prints, but if 40,000 brave Iranians are dead after believing a Help is on the way tweet, without any real concessions and halt to the nuclear program, I don't see any positive way to spin this.
