Common nomenclature is two high but that’s can be misleading depending on down and distance and length of the field. He plays a fair amount of Cover 6 but I wonder if part of that is to accommodate deficiencies in CB2. He also plays a fair amount of Cover 4. But with Jackson’s struggles last year, he had Q playing a lot of MEG (Man Everywhere he Goes) on the top WR. Based on the way he plays Cooper (a bunch of Match) and that he typically had Q and Slay playing MOD because of their speed. That impacts what the S role is and why Reed looked mediocre last year because his speed was evident and why when Mukuba went down, the slower Reed and Epps were somewhat exposed. So, yes Reed stayed higher more times than not because that was how they adjusted to his lack of speed. Ideally for his (or Parker’s because he had a role too) secondary you want fast AND quick Ss with corner cover skills and S instincts and a nickel with similar qualities, (Sounds like Cooper because that is what you ideally want in the middle of the secondary). Mukuba demonstrated some of that. Would like more size but some of that gets sacrificed for quickness. Forget the old Weak (or Free) and Strong designations. I think Vic’s ideal situation is two interchangeable Ss. That’s why Carter practicing at S since he was traded for is so interesting to me.Well, the secondary figures to be MUCH faster next year. Adoree Jackson was actually fairly fast, but he was still the weak link in coverage. That's still a major speed upgrade with Woolen. Epps and Blank were a plodding safety duo. Mukuba has some wheels and, stylistically/comfort, is more of a coverage S to boot (although I have not bought in on him just yet). But it's interesting to see that some of the coverage deficiencies with CB2 and range deficiencies from both safeties last year probably impacted the way Q/Coop had to play and the way Vic moved pieces across the board. (what we saw may not be what Vic likes to do).So I didn't really know how to project want they are going to want from the other starting safety that they will go out and get soon, be it FA, trade, or draft.
Thursday at 04:22 PM4 days I understand what Reed is saying. The Eagles made him earn that spot and it's probably nice for him to hear from other teams that they have plans for him. It's just validation of all the work he's put in.A lot of players say similar things the first time they go through free agency.I think what went unsaid is that the Eagles weren't really extending any type of acceptable offer to him
Thursday at 04:28 PM4 days Dean and Reed are overpaid and overrated. Dean cant stay healthy for a full season and is small. Will age terribly. These will be 2 of the more replaceable guys we have on this defense. And getting $20M between of the 2 of them is a HELL NO. Glad Howie saw it that way as well. Both are slow and require the right scheme and level of talents around them to just be average. Dean graded out just over 60 PFF, while Reed at under 50. Looking forward to more athleticism and speed in those 2 positions.
Thursday at 04:33 PM4 days @BigEFly So where does Michael Carter II fit into this?Everyone was disappointed in him last year because he couldn't get on the field...but that's because he's not an outside CB2 and the Eagles committed to keeping Coop in his current role. Carter II has actually played some really, really good football with the Jets, just not as an outside CB. The fact that the Eagles bothered to keep him around after not using him at all last year suggests they envision a role opening up for him. If they can actually get Carter II to function well as a safety...you'd have 3 DB's in Coop, Mukuba, and Carter II that are extremely comfortable stepping into the box in man coverage against a slot WR or back pedaling pre-snap into a high safety. The interchangeable looks would be absolute chaos for a QB at the LOS.

Is it really that fast?He also says Houston made him feel wanted...for the first time in his career. (The Eagles took a chance on an undrafted player and turned him into a starting player and voted him team captain but ok).Pure speculation on my part, but I think the "made him feel wanted" line is due in part to the negotiation process with Howie last year. Maybe Howie low balled him or set a price that was well below what he thought was a fair offer. Just basing this off the rumblings they were in contract negotiations last year and then a a few days after the season started (and Howie likely shut down negotiations) he fired his agent and signed with Athletes First who are known to go after the money.

Thursday at 04:39 PM4 days I'm pretty much past ready for this Goedert contract to get resolved. I've always been higher on Goedert than most, and I think he's still top 10-12 at his position. Honestly, I'd give him the Cade Otton deal -- 3 years, $30M with $20M guaranteed and structure it to move on in two years. Use Goedert as the receiving TE and Mundt as the blocking TE. I'd rather do that than chew on $20M of dead money. I'm still 50/50 and leaning toward the Eagles trade AJ Brown after June 1; I think he doesn't want to be here anymore, and Howie will get something done during the summer to accommodate him. I also don't think it's a good idea to play 2026 without either Brown or Goedert in the offense.
Thursday at 04:41 PM4 days Trade AJ at the deadline if the offense doesn't look good. I realize you get much less that point, but who cares? Trading him now is throwing in the towel on the season. If the offense is a mess next year, trade AJ and a 4 for a 2027 2 at the deadline. Or just AJ for a 3. Whatever...it's all gravy at that point anyway. But let's at least have the fun of going into a season and trying to compete. No one is trading a 1st round pick for him. Not worth sacrificing a season for a second round pick.

It opens up a huge hole on the offense requiring an immediate high pick when they have needs on the OL and DL. If they want him it starts with a first or they can piss off
Thursday at 04:43 PM4 days It feels like they were ready to cut Dickerson if he didn't agree and he's a team guy and realized where he was physically

Thursday at 04:46 PM4 days 100% would bring in Becton here as a cheap insurance policy for Dickerson. He will not play a full season next year and Howie should plan accordingy. As he failed to last year. Can swing Steen over to LG when that happens. No brainer move.

What is your argument for trading for Greenard instead and then having to pay him a new deal that is more than what Sweat is making? Not a fan of Josh Sweat's 12 sacks last year? More impressed by Greenard's 3 sacks last year?
Thursday at 04:48 PM4 days Cap experts...how is the cap hit distributed between Eagles and Cardinals if we traded for Sweat?I don't want to just give up draft capital to pay Sweat money we could have paid him last offseason. He left because we (wisely) chose to save money to extend the young players. If a sprinkling of draft picks can leave the Cardinals paying Josh Sweat to play for us....then let's talk

I'm laughing at the thought of him returning via trade after 1 season and the fact that he already requested one.

Patriots will wait this out. They know AJ wants out.
