So maybe Lance can break but he hasn’t shown it.

The 3 cone can be better, but it meets the generally accepted threshold. The technique is most fixable. A little sinking of the hips to get cleaner breaks. Something many WRs learn.

The focus on this, when his main role will be as a field stretcher, especially initially in the offense- overboard.

He is the most naturally gifted WR in this draft outside of Caldwell from Cincinnati who downright stinks. He is a better football player than Brazzell as well. He can be used to his strengths while he develops more refined route running. As the majority of rookie WRs need to do when they get to the NFL.

If youre talking about a 6'3''+ WR with low 4.3 speed and a 1.49 10 yard split being a day 3 pick because he runs an adequate 7 second 3 cone you leave very little room on the spectrum between a generational talent, and a day 3 pick. Where to the normal 1st rounders who arent generational slot in? What about the 2nd and 3rd rounders?

DK Metcalf ran a 7.38 3 cone, slower than Tom Brady's 7.20. DK was an instant impact rookie, who has developed more in the NFL. And still, hes mostly a linear guy. There are roles for those kinds, and they are still game changers.

Bryce Lance has the same 3 cone time as Antonio Williams in this draft. Theres no one saying Williams isnt quick enough. Hes looked at as a slot and was a borderline 1st round guy a month or 2 ago due to his quicks.

Again, Smith will be our #1 after the Brown trade. We dont need Lance to be. He will have his role, and he can develop further within that. He will be a game changer in that role.

Staring to think @LeanMeanGM is Dianna Russini...

😄

My goal was to do a somewhat realistic draft that would piss everyone off and I think I succeeded.

PFN_Draft_result_1775837962568.png

Overrated OT in the first, a DB who can't tackle, 25 year old RB prospect with an arrest record, a WR who doesn't generate separation, DOUBLE QB factory, an OC prospect from not just small school but Dartmouth, and of course a kicker.

Enjoy.

They better not take a WR with their first 3 picks. 😖

Well, we definitely aren't drafting Tyson. This guy is never right about anything.

He's basically just stealing content from other people and reusing it as his own.

Id be wary of surface "separation" critiques. So many people get it wrong because they dont consider ball placement taking away that separation that the WR actually did earn. Its like Tee Higgins all over again. People said he didnt separate when he clearly did. They doubted him, and they were wrong. It was all about the ball placement undoing the work Higgins already accomplished in his routes. Bryce Lance isnt playing with great accurate QBs.

Lance hit the 7.00 3 cone threshold. Its adequate. Especially when you consider he is over 6'3''.

Brugler says mediocre separation quickness, which is true based on the 3 cone. But says Lance comes off the line tall, and needs to use better sink to get more efficient in his breaks.

Its a teachable skill.

Id also say, hes more than just a fast 40 guy. Not all fast 40s also come with the ridiculously quick 10 yard time. Lance has a 1.49 10 yard split. Hes not a tall build up speed guy. Hes like a speed bike off the starting line. Immediate acceleration that CBs will struggle to match.

They going to naturally have to give him a cushion which bakes in separation for him without even doing anything. Or theyre going to get burnt off the line and there will be quick separation.

His height, combined with 32'' arms and big hands means length is at play too. He positions himself well, and the QB can put the ball away from the defender. Again, thats separation baked in even when it doesnt look like its there.

I do see the issue about ball placement. It seemed they threw a lot of back shoulder throws. My worry is that he was not challenged athletically at NDSU. He wasn't challenged at the LOS because DBs were worried about getting beat deep. If they did challenge him, he was too quick for it to matter. I just wonder if the time it will take to adjust to the competition level and learn the position is worth it given his age.

Yep. If it was a Mike Garafolo type reporter, they'd be gone. It's a nono in many industries for good reason.

One comment I saw elsewhere is how quiet other reporters and the general NFL media are about this scandal. Its like they want it to go away as it burns the fact some reporters are very close (in a bro or fiends with benefits sense) with various team members. Their impartiality is done if other reporters are outed too

Not sure if I'm understanding the context. Are you suggesting if a reporter had some type of personal relationship with a HC or GM they would be fired?

But I thought Rickies Scoopz was the scoopiest scooper to ever scoop?

Nah. If she's using sex for scoops, I think it's gross and a sleazy way to be a reporter and she'd be a pretty ish person. But I'm not sure if it changes what the actual reporting is.

How many times do fans complain about "anonymous sources" and made up rumors? Then a source likely came out and it's a prominent one, so why should I not believe the reporting? It can be anyone, doesn't have to be Dianna. Could there be a bias in the reporting? Sure. But there could and usually is a bias in EVERY report from everyone. GM's and Agents use reporters to put their agenda out to the public. It's what journalism has become nowadays.

If a reporter had an intimate relationship, or overly friendly relationship, absolutely. Putting aside any romantic relationship, if Adam Schefter was taking vacations together with Howie Roseman, then he would not be able to credibly report on the Eagles and should be dismissed from his job. There's an obvious line between having a friendly relationship and a close personal relationship (whether romantic or just close personal friends). Reporters can't have close personal relationships with the people they are supposed to cover - that's true in all fields, not just sports.

Add in the complication of Russini's obsession with AJ Brown for the last 12 months, constantly talking about him being unhappy, locker room cancer, etc. and the Pats interest in trading for him, and the conflict is much more obvious and nefarious. Was she doing this at the direction of Vrabel, or just on her own to try and help out her friend?

Either way, she's 100% finished as a credible reporter.

8 out of 10 Howies. You addressed all of our needs except for pass rush but we all know that's not important. Drafting Iheanachor to be a back OG and then going with a safety as the first pick in the 2nd won't bring up past trauma for anyone. I mean Iheanachor doesn't want to be a fireman, right? Haulcy isn't a bigger safety that can hit but can't really cover well. Anyway Oscar Delp is a TE that is projected as a 3rd or 4th stringer. The Bryce Lance pick will make @HazletonEagle more insufferable. I am not going to pretend to know anyone else you drafted except there will probably be some post-draft story about how Julian evaluated Nussmeier and pused for the pick because of his good bloodlines.

He's not all that old. Hes not yet 24. Give him 3 tears of development he's still just 27. Not bad. And his 10 yards time is elite. Even NFL CBs will have to respect it.

I think the main difference is that CB's will be more willing to disrupt the route physically especially if they are playing some sort of zone coverage.

I think firing Dianna Russini would set a very dangerous precedent. For one, it still isn't 100% known that she is banging Vrabel. Even if she was, they would have to prove that the relationship affected her reporting, and to do that I think they'd need to prove that the information was either not correct or she was influenced by personal feelings to be tricked into reporting bad information.

But she can bang whomever she wants. Is it morally wrong to cheat on your husband? Yeah, but it's not a crime and The Athletic can't fire her for being a cheat. Any evaluation of her job performance would need to be based on the above and if her information was indeed correct, it shouldn't really matter how she got it. Anyone who works in the NFL is a potential source. You can't ban reporters from not dating people who work in the NFL, that would be crazy.

If we find out she purposely and intentionally slept with Vrabel purely to get information and/or put out bad information that she would have sniffed out as bad had she not been swayed by romantic feelings; or she intentionally put out objectively untrue information to help a dude she's Fing, then yes, that would be grounds to lose your job. I have no insight into that though, neither do any of the fans. At the end of the day most fans are upset because she was reporting something they didn't like hearing. If she was reporting every week that Jahan Dotson was unhappy with his role and could be traded, no one would've given a crap because people wouldn't be upset to see Dotson leave town.

This is consistent with how fans react whenever a story comes out that they don't want to be true. It happened with Carson Wentz in 2018 and Joe Santoloquito had his front door of his home kicked in people were so upset by it. A story that ended up being true btw, but a bunch of neanderthal fans were so emotionally immature they couldn't believe something reported negatively about their team or QB may be true, so let's attack a reporter for doing his job.

I think it does. Credibility isn't binary, it's a spectrum that can be skewed once impropriety is introduced. And yes there is always some level of bias, but the fact that she was married means the bias here is far stronger not just due to her feelings for Vrabel, but also since the revelation of an affair can have a major impact on her life.

Why not? Even if AJ stays this year it's fair to question how long he's going to be around. That leaves Smith as our only receiver with a clear long term commitment to the team.

I suppose the line needs to be drawn what is considered a close personal relationship and what is not. The whole job of a reporter is to build professional relationships. Does Jay Glazer day drinking with Head Coaches cross the line? It's also been widely known he is close friends with Lane Johnson and has a personal relationship with him. So when Glazer was the first to report that Lane had pain and swelling in his foot and was iffy for the playoff game, that should be seen as not credible?

There were leaked emails between Schefter and Bruce Allen where Schefter called him Mr Editor and asked if anything in his report should be changed. Nothing came from that. I'd argue that's worse than just being friends when it comes to credibility.

I think the truth is that all these national reporters have a chummy relationship that straddles or crosses the line with different people in power which is how they get their info and are usually always the first to report about something. I don't think Garafolo or Rapoport get their scoops from journalistic integrity and hard work.

In Dianna's case, I'm not arguing for her credibility going forward. I'm sure she was fed info by Vrabel. But again, she put things out there that go directly against what helps Vrabel so I just don't buy into this conspiracy that everything was some big plan to screw the Eagles. AJ Brown was the one constantly talking about being unhappy and how the Patriots are his favorite team for the last year. The big joke at the time was Dianna is just reporting based off his twitter and instagram posts. I'm just not seeing what power Rusinni has when it comes to the actual negotiations/trade value between the real players in this dance.

Let me rephrase. I have no reason to believe whatever was reported at the time was made up/thrown at the wall to see what sticks/click driven etc. that everyone resorts to when a report about their favorite team or player comes out. Was it biased? Depends on which report, but for the sake of the argument, lets say it was. It's still info from one specific perspective, and now that we know the source was likely someone in power and not just the janitor, that's all more the reason to not think everything was made up.

Does it hurt her credibility as a reporter? Yes. Am I going to dismiss everything said because she was boning the Patriots coach? No. There's truth in there even if it's biased.
