JJ Arcega-Whiteside Tracker - [The Unofficial DK Metcalf Topic]

So... Howie picked JJAW over DK?

Any question on where the change needs to start?

The DK Metcalf comparisons to JJAW need to end.

Howie wasn't "allowed" to draft Metcalf because he was ruled out due to medical reasons.  He literally wasn't even on their board there.

I'm guessing the medical guy who ruled him out was likely fired by now...if that makes you feel better...lol.

2014: Pass on Davante Adams, Jarvis Landry.
Take: Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff

2019: Pass on DK Metcalf.
Take: JJ what’s his name

2020: Pass on Justin Jefferson

Take: Jalen Reagor.

2021: Pass on Chase, Smith, Waddle

Take: ???? Tune in April 2021.

If true, it's idiotic. Medical can push someone down the board but it should completely remove them unless it is career threatening. Like a Marcus Lattimore knee injury or something crazy.

I just can't take this anymore, someone make it end. I want to throw up.

Medical consultants and team docs don't take players off the draft board.  They provide risk assessments.  Nothing more, nothing less.

They took him off the board because of what their doctor's told them.  And since Howie isn't a doctor, I'm guessing he believed them.

I like it --- start complaining about our 2021 pick 6 months early.

Trying to save some time

After 2017 and 2018, fans were complaining that we needed to stop acquiring players with injury histories and now that Metcalf has done what he has, the revisionist history begins. While virtually all mock drafts for 3 months before the draft had the Eagles picking Jefferson as the 4th wr off the board, most fans here complained that they didn't want him because he was used mostly as a slot receiver his last year and claimed you don't use that high a pick on a slot receiver --- the revisionist history continues.

I really miss that we don't have the old board to go back and remind people what they were saying before each draft.

Probably some PAC-12 Mr. Softee.

Such and overreaction on the DK - Calvin comp. Both have undeniable talent, but pump the breaks a little.

Also, I take issue with the megatron is the most gifted reciever to ever play the game. Is he a top 10 receiver all time? Yes, he is probably top 5. Is he a crazy athletic marvel? Yes. But "gifted" at receiver includes a lot more than just physical attributes. Even if we limit it to his freakish athleticism, I would say that guys like T.O., Andre Johnson, and Julio Jones (AJ Brown too?) would give him a run for his money. And then you have the speedsters, Randy Moss, Bob Hayes, Cliff Branch, Tyreek Hill, etc. Are they any less athletic?

So much goes into what makes a receiver great... give me Jerry Rice's work ethic, Steve Smiths heart, Chris Carters hands, Jimmy Smiths first 5 steps, Randy Moss' separation, Tyreek Hill's speed, Lance Alworths deep ball tracking, Larry Fitz's longevity, etc... Megatron was a beast, but picking a best receiver of all time is hard because there are so many different types of player.

I’ll go with DJax’s deep ball tracking. Lance Alworth is before my time...

I love that mentality. The guy is a baller no doubt.

No it's not. It's Jerry Rice

Metcalf would definitely have only played 3 games for us through injuries.

People have to remember that another 2 receivers, who both suck, were taken after JJAW and before Metcalf. A lot of teams missed on him.

This has got to be the worst and most painful thread I have ever taken part in, during my entire career on message boards all over the internet for 26 years.....😭

I was definitely one of those people. I wanted Reagor and I have not given up on him. He is getting open but not getting the ball. Play calling is also terrible which is not helping him out. Needs some work on his route running forsure. Easy to look back now with Jefferson but way too early to say he is a bust.

Jefferson was likely going to do nothing with the Eagles if he had Wentz and this type of play calling.

With any luck Howie will be gone so maybe they actually hit on next year’s pick.

Im also not giving up hope on Reagor though. I do think he can be a really good receiver, but this coaching staff is not using him well. All he runs are deep routes and screens. They never get him on slants, crossing routes, etc. The defense knows what routes they need to take away with him.

Hit it exactly on the head. I have that same thought process but too lazy to type it all out lol

Good luck with that...

Please list all Howie’s ‘good’ draft picks.

Sanders, Goedert are the only great picks.  I’d argue that Josh Sweat and Big V were good picks as well. But that’s about it.

I won’t pass judgment on the 2020 class yet. I still like Reagor’s potential, and I think Wallace and Hightower could develop, but that remains to be seen. I also cannot rule out Hurts turning out to be a good QB until Doug actually gives him a damn chance.

Basically Howie last night got owned. We are reminded the only guy who shut down DK was the guy Howie didn’t want to give up 2 firsts for. Who is one of those firsts he coveted so much? Jalen Reagor. Then DK looks completely dominating while his pick couldn’t even see the field! Then there’s Adams who was the best player out there who Howie tried to cheap his way into stealing from the Jets. Bowie’s gotta keep this picks in order to draft quarterbacks who come into games to hand the ball off.

Brother, you ain't seen nothing yet. It's all gonna get worse before it gets better. Only when Howie is fired and replaced will things turn around. I don't think that's happening any time soon. Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I still think in hindsight letting Cooper go to the cowboys was a bad call as well. I think Howie offered a second which was not enough. So then he went and gave a third for Golden Tate.smh

He's not getting open, though.  Griffin was blanketed on him  The announcers were stunned by his lack of separation against the worst pass defense in the league.
