Well, I'd rather him sit on the bench or in the locker room than practice golf swings during it. Up to him what he does, but it's going to start national stories after. I doubt he does it again.

Tarkenton was anything but mediocre. He was a 9-time Pro Bowl, HOF QB (when the Pro Bowl meant much more). He pre-dated Roger Staubach as perhaps the first true dual-threat QB and did a lot to revolutionize the position. As a little kid before forming an allegiance to any team he was my favorite player to watch.

I was watching a replay of the Jags-Texans. Lawrence and Stroud seemed to be able to pass against the blitz just fine and I don't know that either have top 10 O lines. PFF today has the Eagles O'line18, Jags and Texans tied at 29.

The turn around Stroud has had this season thus far has been pretty darn impressive.

So let's review. Howie keeps Dalton to only waive him a few weeks later and ends up costing you a game. And gets no draft pick for his wait.

Then, he keeps Jenkins, who was easily able to be put on a practice squad if you really cared about him. Should have kept Latu or saved a spot for a younger cat.

In the process, we still have a junky bottom of the roster, anyway. And lose developmental projects who may get better like Williams, Pulley and Gush. Who all get picked up by other teams quickly.

If running increases the risk of another clots episode over the normal beating any NFL QB takes, I wouldn't blame him if he was reluctant to take any more abuse than he has to. Apparently genetics can increase to propensity for blood to clot when it shouldn't. I wonder if there's anything in his background.
