Those offenses from weeks 1 and 2...I didn't know at the time that was our apex.

And it really felt like Hurts was saving the offense with some of the big plays he was making on third downs. The entire philosophy and foundation of the offense is to get to 3rd/4th and short instead of pushing the ball downfield.

Damn - shots fired by a former player

Great QB but how does that qualify to be a GM?

Let's also be clear about the ripple effects for the future:

Hurts - this all but guaranteed he will be here as the starter in 2027, unless he demands out (which I think is highly unlikely). The only way to move him financially is as a post June 1 trade this offseason, but since he won't play again this season and wasn't lighting it up, not sure there will be bidders. We currently have ~$40mm in cap space per Spotrac, and that would shrink if we start selling off players at the deadline potentially. We might get a ~$15mm cap credit from insurance on Hurts. Still, cutting him post June 1 costs an extra $10.6mm in 2027 cap and creates $54.5mm in 2028 dead cap. Not to mention - it's a PR DEBACLE if we cut him after this. I don't see any extension happening, but he's the week 1 starter if healthy.

Sirianni - I think this helps his case to stay, assuming the team doesn't just quit on him. Hard to can the guy with all these injuries and his history. I'd like to move on, but not sure Howie and Jeff will do it unless the team collapses and it's clear guys are mailing it in.

Mannion - If we don't see real improvement, not sure how you can bring him back. He's in way over his head.

Kuper - Should be fired today FFS.

Haven't we said that before about Nick? He gets a lot of leeway because of this or that because the team has been winning(not now obviously) in spite of his ineptitude

I thought any form of going to gun means Sirianni is meddling. Is Shane advocating for Sirianni meddling instead?

Would Sirianni suggest making the roll out design not include having a WR try to run 2 gaps to reach a LB who is shooting the gap? This is why we cannot run this play.

I mean, he has been to 2 Super Bowls and won one. I think if you want to can him, then hand him the keys. He can call plays, or have Grizzard do it, or can even back Mannion (which would be something). But basically what Lurie did with Chip in 2015 - hand him control and see if he sinks or swims with autonomy.

This is all we have left...

Wouldn’t be an issue except it’s not just twitter people. Foles, Chris long, Avant and other players have said the same thing. At some point you can watch the all 22 without being an expert and know there’s scheme flaws. It’s not hard to diagnose when you have 4 guys go to block one guy leaving 2 free rushers. That’s not on talent that’s on mistakes and not understanding your assignments

Just the way he drew up is my guess.

But didn't he do that already and then playing calling was stripped away? It's not like he was hired and never called plays

Basically we already let him sink or swim and he started sinking but was given floatation devices by all of his OCs since then

I tried to stay with the swimming example lol

Dak has embarrassment. Don't downplay his disability just because it's invisible.

I mean, he gave up play calling 7 games into his 1st season. That's not a huge sample size, and hopefully he learned something since then.

Oh, and the 2021 offense the first 7 weeks was light years better than this with less talent.

Natalie Portman's first movie as well, I think she was 11.

We've got Grizzard in the wings, but what to do with Mahaffey and Kuper who also seem to be system hires.

An underdiscussed aspect of the protection issues is that on Sunday we had an inexperienced QB debating protections with an inexperienced center, for all Jürgens faults, he could offer opinions on protections slides informed by experience, now it's like two new guys who've never played a proper game together facing experienced DC's calling their full regular season defenses, in short it was always going to look rough.

This season was also the first year Jalen hasn't had an experienced center to offer a second opinion on protection shifts

It was reported that Drew Kendall was even better than Jurgens at the line / protection calls. It sucks that he's been out.

I do believe they at least have the center of the future now identified.

Lampkin is a placeholder and a depth piece. Steen needs to be upgraded. And there is reason for optimism with Bell.

Haven't they given him the keys twice now with Brian Johnson and Kevin Patullo? He couldn't save those floundering offenses and the FO made him go hire their pick for an OC. Mannion's a first year OC installing a new system with a team that's been ravaged by injuries on offense. What's the downside in seeing how Mannion's offense plays out? Weeks 1 and 2 looked decent because they were mostly healthy. Can they get some kind of consistency with personnel and see if they can recreate those performances?
