July 16, 20223 yr Ice, ice and then ice again. Every day, if you can. And also pop like 8 Advils a day. 🙃 For the foam roller, I lay sideways on the floor and use the roller on the part of the shoulder that’s in pain. No more than 10 minutes at a time. Kinda hard to describe the movement here in a post. But man does that roller work, it gets any tightness and muscle knots right out.

I just try to do shoulder stabilizing moves to strengthen everything and manage the damage. Getting older sucks, and I'm not even 40 yet! I wouldn't foam roller. You are putting pressure on the muscle which probably isn't a good thing if inflamed. Keep it active, try a lacrosse ball in the front of the shoulder pocket to keep mobility and find someone on IG that has free rehab info on it.
July 19, 20223 yr I've had many shoulder issues (years of softball + sprained ac joint + broken collar bone). 2 years ago my shoulder was killing me, couldnt bench press much at all anymore, even after taking time off that didnt help. I googled rotator cuff physical therapy exercises and did them every day for like a month and all the pain was gone.

I think I did some damage last year lifting a box at work that was unexpectedly heavy. It still flares up occasionally and will give me some grief for a couple of days. Are these similar to the exercises you did? https://www.healthline.com/health/rotator-cuff-injury-stretches

I did a lot of these: https://orthoinfo.aaos.org/globalassets/pdfs/2017-rehab_shoulder.pdf The first one on page 9 helped a lot too.

Basically following what I give my son for his basketball workouts. Speed/explosive day, heavy day, mobility day. All depends on how he feels is his workout of the day.

October 5, 20223 yr Foam rollers are a good treatment even if inflamed. The promote blood flow and anti-inflammatory proteins. Also, yeah, ice it.

You never want to put pressure on an IT band. If have a tight band foam roll the muscles around it or hit some yoga poses like pigeon pose or even the couch stretch to help
October 5, 20223 yr I find foam roller works best on large muscles, especially glutes and lats which can be tougher to get at
October 6, 20223 yr I use a foam roller probably 5x a week on my upper/lower back, and my shoulders. Man, do my shoulders get sore frequently.
October 6, 20223 yr I don’t foam roll because I rarely have muscle soreness for more than a day or two - it’s my damn shoulder joints that kill me

October 8, 20223 yr A mildly amusing story for you. Lately during the weekends I’ve been running at a park about 10 minutes from the house. Nice big military park with a smaller lake park within. The ‘’trails’’ are actually two lane roads with an additional bike lane that are no longer open to vehicles so there’s plenty of room. There’s a shorter 1.6 mile loop around the lake and a longer 3.7 mile loop around the entire park with about a half mile sharing part of the smaller loop. Anyway, I got there this morning and there was a Lukemia/Lymphoma Society fun run taking place on the smaller loop, so I figured I’d run the big loop to give them a chance to finish up their event. Come around to end of the loop and they’re all still there, big inflatable finish line stretching across the road and everything. As I get closer to the finish line they all turn and start to cheer for me, girls waving Pom poms, announcer over the PA system imploring me to finish up strong! I mean, I’d practically have had to be crawling to be part of their race and not be finished yet. I just ran through the finish line and kept right on going.

October 16, 20223 yr I just love it when people are in the dumbbell area of the gym and they are using the benches to do…….Ab work. Or, they use a bench as their personal locker. They put their keys, phone, water bottle, jacket, etc.. on the bench, but they then don’t actually use the bench.

Today was chest day and the only dumbbell work I did was incline flys, 12 reps with 35’s, 10 reps with 40’s, and about 7 reps with 45’s. All other sets were machines or cables.
