May 12, 20223 yr I've been going to the gym in the morning at least 3 days a week for the last couple months. Haven't been this week and had 2 small cheese steaks for dinner. I guess you can say this working out thing is getting pretty serious
May 13, 20223 yr Good job, BFit! Gotta start somewhere. If I have the energy and time, I am usually in the gym 5-6 days a week. FYI - I am pretty sure snakes are venomous and not poisonous.

A couple miles in it occurred to me that there was a 2 foot long copper head on the path about 10 feet in front of me. Quickly decided to smoothly veer around around it instead of trying to stop and, thankfully, it didn't strike. There was a couple that I'd just passed (she had a nice ass in her spandex) about 25 yards behind me so I turned around and alert them to the snake, then I alerted another couple coming towards me a couple hundred yards further down the path. A third couple coming towards me another couple hundred yards ahead I didn't say anything to. Was that wrong? I figured that surely the snake would be gone by then, but maybe it wasn't and one of them got bitten and doctors are now fighting to save their leg. I'll never know so who cares? Anyway, how long does one have the responsibility to alert others to the presence of a poisonous snake on the path ahead of them? I would alert everyone I see for a couple of miles, honestly.

May 17, 20223 yr Long post/life story time I was always a chubby kid but my weight would eb and flow as I hit my growth spurts. Each summer I'd slim down but then put the weight back on. The issue was definitely over eating. I'd get home from school, my grandma would feed me and then I'd eat again when mum and dad would get home. Try telling a Greek grandmother you don't want to eat and it's like you shot Bambi. I was never an obese kid, but I was thicker set and it was enough to get picked on in 4th grade by a couple of kids. There was also a lack of exercise at play. I loved sports but my elementary school cut gym classes and I hated the pee wee version of football because you would never play games and it was just 'skills'. I started karate around the age of 10 and that stuck for a long time. It started with 3 classes a week and by the time I was in my early teens I was doing doubles on a Tuesday and Thursday (teens and seniors class), the occasional Friday if I wasn't working with my dad and the Saturday's. I also had proper gym classes by the time I'd hit high school. I was in really good shape at this point and quit because I wanted to play football. I was told I couldn't do both, my parents wanted me to keep going with the karate but I grew sick of it and my interests were elsewhere. The way it works with junior sports here is they're local teams that you pay registration fees, join and then train two nights a week and play on Sunday in your league. The school teams play a round robin tournament one day a year and if you win that you move to a state tournament. So school football wasn't going to be an option because I wanted to play a proper season. I took a year off in protest before my parents agreed and I joined a team. In the 12 month sabbatical, my eating habits stayed the same, but I completely stopped exercising other than whatever was part of classes at school. I went from a tick under 170 pounds to 187. Football here is more about running, how much ground you can cover as well as the skill side. The training didn't agree with me because we mainly ran laps and I don't have the concentration to just aimlessly run. I played two seasons and then picked up indoor soccer as a side hobby playing on and off for a decade. In the meantime, I put on a lot of weight in the summer I finished high school and hit about 215 pounds. There was a lot of emotional eating since I was miserable and I spent 95% of my days playing Madden or some other video game. My weight yo-yo'ed from there. I started indoor again and started eating better. Then I started American Football for a season and got back down to about 195ish through the training (which isn't ideal when they want you playing left tackle). My weight slowly crept up through the years after that. My diet was terrible, my exercise routine was sporadic at best to non-existent. It peaked around 2017 when I was my heaviest weight for the time. I eventually decided to make some changes and tried to cut my portions down, eliminate the sodas and try walking. I lost some weight before heading over to the Super Bowl and actually managed to be lighter when I came back due to the consistent walking. Once I got back, I found out my dad my have had pancreatic cancer (which he didn't) completely abandoned everything I had been doing and put the weight all back on plus change. I hit my new high of 260 pounds. After I saw the weight I decided to make some drastic changes in 2019. I began a consitent walking routine as that had helped me in the past. I cut out all carbs and sugar from my diet. I'd have some cheat days but felt like crap that I had them afterwards mentally. I quit my job and found something in a transition phase that was more active. Eventually by my 30th birthday in March 2020 I had gotten down to around 190 pounds. Covid made things tricky since my city was in constant lockdowns and we had to wear masks to exercise outside. That didn't help my exercise routine but I tried to stick with the diet. I think I put on about 6-10 pounds which I wasn't upset with. 2021 was a little different. I completely abandoned the diet, then my job was on the road for large chunks as we were in lockdown again. I started seeing someone and that became a difficult situation. The weight gradually came back and I ended up at 260 again. The super strict diet wasn't going to work. I hated it by the end and would crave things. Then I'd have what I craved and would binge it. I started making some changes again in mid 2021. I would take my lunch to work but wouldn't be as strict. There were some carbs and it didn't make me crave junk as much. I completely stopped soda again and dropped to about 225 by Jan this year. I had some personal ish happen, caught covid and completely lost my appetite (due to said personal stuff). Once I was allowed back into the wild I started walking daily and cut my portion sizes down quiet a bit. My walks started mainly as a way to make sure my lungs were okay, but eventually it grew to 6 days of 3.8 miles and one around 5.6 miles. I still try to manage my lunches/dinners, but I have been a little looser with what I'm eating. I'm currently sitting at 207 pounds. I still have a while to go, I've changed jobs again to something more stationary, so I feel I need to up my walking distance and reign in the diet a little. Maybe a salad instead of a sandwich a couple days a week. I have also found I'm getting more of my appetite back and that also isn't helping because I'm eating more/snacking during the day. I probably need to be stricter with my portions and avoid overeating which is how I got here in the first place.

I thought I'd chuck a Sixers game on and try and watch it while using that. I got so bored so fast. I found it a lot harder walking/jogging on the treadmill than doing it outside. Time just felt like it went forever and whatever distance I'd cover on my daily walks with headphones on and playing Pokemon Go felt like a lifetime on the treadmill. Then again, maybe maps is wrong on the distance I'm covering outdoors, but it was a real slog to get through it. Then again, I find the walks tough sometimes from a mental perspective. I need something more stimulating which results on me on my phone trying to keep my mind occupied. The last thing I really enjoyed was the circuit training when I was doing karate. The exercises changed enough and then there was a chunk of sparring so I wouldn't get bored. So like warm ups would be jumping jacks and squats, there would be punch and kick routines, bags, sparring, push ups and sit ups between exercises. It might be worth finding something like that you can do a couple times a week since it won't bore the ish out of you

I've found participating in rec sports has helped me a ton with my physical fitness especially as I get older. Good for you for keeping at it. Sounds like a rough up and down ride. It sounds like you're developing a healthier perspective than just restricting and yo-yoing back and forth. Also, F those kids in 4th grade.

It was a great way to catch up with some friends while getting some exercise in. It is something I really enjoyed and I'd love to do that again or play some Basketball (which I'm horrible at) if I could find some friends that were interested. You're right that it is a good way to keep the fitness up. It's just finding that group that have the interest to do it every week. The other battle is my new work schedule isn't exactly very friendly for playing sports with working nights and weekends most days. I think that's the bonus with walking in that I'm not restricted by anything other than myself. I just need to keep the routine up. I think I've learnt a lot of about where I've gone wrong. Most of these things were within my self control and I've just lacked the discipline to persist and gotten into old habits. The last couple of weeks I've been lazy with my walks. I need to build back into the routine and the key is to not say I'll start from tomorrow and just do it today. Once I get going I'm generally fine, it's just the initial thought. The weather has been getting colder in Australia and it has been raining non stop for what feels like a month. I just need to put some more layers on and get out there. I have Tuesday's off at the moment so that could also be a day where I pick up some kickboxing. Kids are a**hats. It sucked at the time but thinking back on it now they were both chubby kids themselves. I was actually pretty good friends with both of them 6 months later so it's just weird how stuff happens. Your brain doesn't process it that way at the time

June 23, 20223 yr 40 pushups at one time??!! Probably haven't done that many at once since high school (30 years ago). Could do 20-25 now, but then my shoulder would give out, LOL.
