F'ed up run today.  Felt like ass before I even started, and it's a challenging route to begin with because much of the first mile, before I get my 2nd wind, is up hill, but I finally started to settle in and get a little more comfortable when I hear something coming up behind me, turn around and there's a snarling, snapping Pitbull coming through a yard toward me.  That f'er chased me down the street and was lunging at me when I somehow stomped it's head down into the pavement.  Thankfully it then turned around and ran back home.  The adrenaline had me feeling ok for another mile or so but then it started wearing off and I had to stop and walk for a little bit, which I never do.  I was tempted to go light into the owner of the dog but didn't really want to have to deal with the dog again.  Pissed me off.

Next to nothing here the mouse immune system is completely different. We can cure all sorts of cancer in those mice. Hasnt translated for many reasons.

Mice share around 75-80% the same gene makeup as humans. The study has nothing to do with cancer, it has to do with aging which is a Sinclair's work.

They argue its suppressing cancer there. Mouse isnt a good translation model.

They argue or studies show? And the point of the study was about aging not cancer and that is what they found from the study.

This study says otherwise

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/01/180118142647.htm

A new study is helping to answer a pressing question among scientists of just how close mice are to people when it comes to researching cancer. The findings reveal how mice can actually mimic human breast cancer tissue and its genes, even more so than previously thought, as well as other cancers including lung, oral and esophagus.

Argue. Its a hypothesis based on data. But One possible conclusion in a different model.

2018. Has it gone anywhere?

i am telling you man people do entire phd thesis on these things and while they can be informative the genetic simularities arent where it matter. Timing and expression patterns are the key. Look up toll like receptors alone (TLR) and people have been trying to develop therapies for decades with nothing to show for it

Ran past a guy today who was jogging while juggling 3 bowling pins. He appeared to be keeping a decent pace too. True story.

I ran a 5k a few years back and there was a dude who was juggling while running it

I'm just trying to make it back to the car, I'm not looking to add other challenges along the way.

Got it. Cancer should be cured overnight with the amount of red tape with studies and human trials, 4 years is a blink of an eye concerning this type of work.

The point of the study had nothing to do with cancer but aging and in theory it makes sense. Autophagy breaks down and destroys senescent cells, which have shown to advance cancer cells.

From you, nope.

I'll trust the guy that the Tweet came from.

An academic claiming stuff so he can keep getting grants? Good luck with that. Funny how they are never wrong…

except he is there as they claimed it was aging but the hypothesis didnt hold. So it must be cancer!!

I don’t know what’s worse at the gym: teenaged boys who smell and don’t have any gym etiquette, OR, elderly people who smell and don’t have any gym etiquette!!

Elderly.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ran in a Girls on the Run 5K with my 8-year-old daughter today. Didn’t get to condition leading up to the race as much as I would’ve liked, and she missed the last week of practices due to being sick, but in the end we fared well and finished in 41:09.70. It was her first 5K ever and she loved it. Looks like I’m going to be a runner now because we’re already planning to run after school Tuesday night.

Couple weeks back into weight training now that golf season is over. Peleton and that should keep me crippled until spring
