Absolutely! And of course it is giving Hurts a guy he is familiar with and had a good rapport with in college. They can trust each other and I think that is really going to help Hurts this coming year.

I think it depends on how you felt about both. I wasn’t in love with either of them. If the eagles weren’t in love with either don’t make that selection of a QB. I’m guessing they weren’t in love with either as they moved out of 6 to begin with and if they loved a QB that much i don’t think they would’ve moved back to 12 and risked losing that potential franchise QB.

IMO Even if jones or fields is better than hurts that’s not a reason to just automatically take one. You have to actually believe they could become a franchise QB and are that caliber. If you don’t have that belief in them then to invest a 10th overall pick is a mistake because you likely wind up searching for another QB sooner rather than later. I actually applaud atlanta for not falling into that trap at 4. They easily could’ve said we don’t expect to be picking this high again for a couple years we should take the QB now cause me might not get the chance to again for a while. I feel like that is what tends to get teams into trouble when selecting QBs

Other than Smith not being 200 lbs , what is not to like about him ?

he impressed the hell out of me every time I watched him play , and I never once thought he isn’t the biggest , I always thought , damn what a catch , this guy is everywhere and can’t be taken out of the game , he is so good

And that's fine that is all I am saying... He deserves credit when he makes a good logical move that is all. I don't like Howie either, I want him gone and I think he should have been fired but he did a good job last night.

Not saying he worked a miracle, or should still have a GM job.  Recognize it’s him and the owner, who is the actual GM.  He’s more of the secretary.  They ve collectively been awful.  That’s well documented.

that said... have to give credit when due.  They navigated the way the draft fell and ended up with the last elite prospect, and at the same time prevented him from going to an arch rival.  Had to trade with the other arch rival to do it.  Not an "easy” trade up.  Very unusual situation.  The cost of pick 84 in a weak and thin draft is next to nothing relative to what they did.  The board went badly because everyone had the same evaluation as we did.  There was no confusion on who the top prospects were or any panic trades for the QBs that drove any top prospects down to 12.

I think you will enjoy and appreciate Smith, especially when the Eagles ultimately acquire a viable starting QB (prob next year), and you will really appreciate that he’s not playing for the Giants.  And you will not miss whatever Davion Taylor type joke pick the clowns would have made at 84.

again.... no one is more critical than me of these two people... or realizes how critical it is that they bring in new personnel leadership... but credit is given here, because you have to acknowledge what they did last night was a big deal.

If the Eagles feel they are set at WR, they should hope there's a run on the Tier 2 WR to start round 2.  Not only does it let the defensive players drop right in to their laps but it also could put them in prime position for a team that might want to trade up and get a guy like Trask or Mond.  I still don't like losing pick 84.  I really think there are some solid players to be had in the 3rd.  

Wouldn't be shocked to hear Javonte Williams name called for the Eagles.  If Elijah Moore is sitting there I'm really tempted to take him.  Smith, Moore and Reagor would be something to finally get excited about at WR.  It gets Greg Ward off the field, takes pressure of Fulgham and lets you choose between Watkins and Hightower rather than needing to keep both.

Nick Bolton, Trevon Moehrig, JOK are all obvious names that would be huge for the defense.  I still don't like Barmore.  

Could also see them trading down and taking  Quinn Meinerz, the OL from Wisconsin-Whitewater.

 

Overall, not thrilled with Smith.  Out of all the WR options he was the last one I wanted but the board forced the Eagles to do this.  We weren't getting Horn or Surtain so taking a top corner to pair with a WR at 37 wasn't going to happen.

We'll never know what the Bears would have offered had the Eagles stayed at 12.  I don't like trading with Dallas.  We traded a 4th to them last year and that turned in to Tyler Biadasz,  their new starting center. The picks the Eagles got from the Cowboys last year turned in to Shaun Bradley, Quez Watkins and Prince Tega, plus a 5th this year.

Over the last 2 drafts the Eagles netted from the Cowboys, Quez Watkins, Shaun Bradley, Devonta Smith and 5th TBD.

The Cowboys have netted Tyler Biadasz, Micah Parsons and pick 84 TBD.  Dallas has 3 3rd round picks, so the Eagles helped them stockpile (I don't like that).

I'm satisfied with Day 1.  We have nine picks left and I want three of them devoted to the secondary.  I'd love to go all defense until at least the fifth or sixth rounds.

I honestly feel secure we aren't drafting a QB today.  If we trade back and pick up a 3rd guys I would like in the 2nd are Meinerz, Holland, Joseph (CB from Kentucky), Surratt, Cox, T. Campbell, and Grant even though he is older.

Smith and Reagor makes drafting other skill players on offense much easier.

You have the explosive guys who can spread the field horizontally and vertically with these two and Sanders. So you can fill out your offensive roster with third day types, a two way sure handed TE behind Goedert, maybe a H-back prospect to compete with Jackson and Butler, a power back to take the load off Sanders, interior OL for depth. No need to reach this year or next draft.

Get some athletes on defense this draft, get some more next draft, then start signing FAs the summer of 2023.

I'd certainly like them to go defense heavy. Corner, Safety and DE are major needs. DT is a sneaky need too and of course LB is a need. They do need to add another RB, they do need to add someone along the OL but mostly I want them to go defense now.

Yup, thanks for sharing that. He'll have more trouble with that in the nfl but he should still be pretty good if he can hold up. If he was a bit heavier he would have probably been a higher pick

My thought on the oline is that right now our depth chart is:

 

RT:  Johnson, Driscoll

RG:  Brooks, Herbig

😄 Kelce, Juriga

LG:  Seumalo, Pryor

LT:  Mailata, Dillard

 

In my view, I think we can get an interior lineman later in the draft to knock Pryor out of here.  I know that eventually we'll need to replace Kelce, Brooks, and Johnson in some order but I'd rather give Stoutland another late round pick and another year to work that pick, Driscoll, Herbig, and Juriga and see if he can turn any of them into a long term starter.  Next draft we'll have a better idea of how many high picks are needed to infuse into the line.  

I have no interest in a running back until the end of the draft just because they will be halfway through their rookie contract (i.e., the only RB contract that matters) by the time we're competitive again.   

In round 2...I want someone with the upside of a first rounder, someone who has the raw talent to be a really good starter.

Dont care about position.  CB/S/Edge/center/G...just get someone with the ability to be a long term asset.

I think a fourth round pick on a OL would be sensible. I don't think it needs to be with our second or our remaining third because I think Stoutland is so proven at developing these guys and is such a good OL coach. That said Wyatt Davis and Creed Humphrey are still on the board... I wouldn't be devastated if they took one of them with one of their next 2 picks.

I think if we want Tyson Campbell, we need to take him at 37 (and certainly can't fall far enough back in the 2nd where a return would be a 2nd and a 3rd).  He's the last of the H/W/S freaks so he's going to go early tonight.
