Last weekend the grandkids slept over. It is good. Very, very good. I'm actually very excited and feel relieved. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your family normally!
May 10, 20214 yr I am happy for you all. You've gone far too long avoiding friends and family. Hoping it improves the disposition of some. 👍

It's wishful thinking on Fauci's part, but it's not insane to think we could benefit from generally wearing masks when you're ill and around other people. We 100% should but definitely won't. Flu numbers took a nosedive this year, it was great. People also need to stay the F home when they're sick too instead of toughing it out and infecting their whole damn social circle/school/office etc.

Getting sick is not entirely bad though. We need to in order for our immune systems to develop. Unless you die or develop complications. Then getting sick isn't really that good.
May 11, 20214 yr I'm a firm believer in the hygiene hypothesis, but I'm not sure that persistent exposure and immunocalibration does us that much good (at least when it comes to viral antigens) outside of that 2-3 year window as toddlers when it was critically important. As an aging adult, you're pretty much dealing with old machinery that can't be retooled so easily.

I don’t know about that. there are allergy studies being done to show that slow, gradual exposure to things you’ve been allergic to can actually teach you body to not be allergic. Mostly these are around foods. I would think that if your body can learn to not be allergic to things later in life that our immune systems can also learn to protect us later in life as well. We are constantly being exposed to new germs and viruses so if that wasnt the case, we’d all be dead by now.

We are constantly being exposed to new germs and viruses so if that was t the case, we’d all be dead by now. Legumes and shellfish =/= viral antigens, but even then, look at how difficult it is to reduce the level of anaphylaxis later in life. The point being, exposure is critical when young, less so when older. By then, you've kinda missed the boat a bit and it's far more challenging to course correct. If you truly believe that getting the flu once every few years is good for you, then by all means, have at it. I, on the other hand, will be doing my best to avoid it, and surely not based on some notion that it'll be like a tune up for my body.
