Oh look who’s back! I knew you would climb out of your self pity rock when you boy beat up the hapless Jets. At least have the stones to be there for your guy when the was at his lowest. You Wentz beanbaggers are a bunch of fair weather losers. Only show your faces when your boy beats up on the crap teams in the league. I’m done with you. In short don’t be a fair weather beanbagger.

You poor thing 😂

Roseman might not think it’s a big deal to give up a few firsts and Jalen Hurts for a quarterback he could still have for 7-10 years. To be clear though this isn’t what I want. If anything I believe and hope the Eagles find a way to stockpile more picks, but something tells me they will try to make a bold move for a quarterback.

I'm curious -- just what do you want them to do at QB?

I think they should acquire more assets by trading down the picks they get for first in the 2023 draft. Hopefully they can fleece a team or two like they did the Dolphins. Let Hurts and Mishew fight it out for next season and if neither really impresses look to pick up a quarterback in the 2023 draft. In the mean time draft players in 2022 to improve the roster and sign a few key free agents. I’d rather they build the roster first rather than go quarterback chasing.

OK.  That is not a crazy plan, but it does seem to be based on a whole lot of finger-crossing.  It will not be easy to find a trading partner willing to give up a 2023 1st rounder in a 2022 draft without any highly thought of QBs or other marquis players in the draft.  But it's early, maybe a few of those type of players will emerge.  Or maybe they can find a trading partner if they are willing to trade down far enough -- but unfortunately it might take trading down into that 21-32 range in which Roseman has not shown the ability to make successful draft picks.  Even if they are able to pick up a 2023 first rounder, it is a roll of the dice whether that pick will be high enough to land a top QB prospect - not every team will fall on its face like the Dolphins.

That said, I am not saying I have a better solution -- the Eagles' QB situation is a really thorny problem.

You could add Brady or Mahomes and we’d still be in the same boat of not being in position to win a championship.  Too many holes/lack of talent across the roster as a whole.

Three top 15 picks goes a long way to filling holes.

Yes.  Let's hope Howie uses them wisely.  As much as I am excited about having those picks I am equally nervous he will do something stupid with them.

It all needs to come down to being patient and hoping Howie, the owner, and the fan base are willing to do that. I don’t think they will and that’s why I think it’s more likely they take a short cut to Russell Wilson or someone like that.

No reason to be nervous with Howie at the helm.  Just expect the stupid and if something not stupid happens, you can be happy.

Good point.

I think it gets a little bit cloudy for who is responsible for what. Is Howie or Andy Reid responsible for Fletcher Cox? I think Howie drafted Lane, but it was clear the team wanted Jordan, but Miami jumped ahead of them. The jury is still out on Smith really. He started off pretty hot, but now he’s been dropping a lot of passes. It’s too early to say how good he will or won’t be yet. I just don’t think we have a big enough sample size of players that were absolute slam dunks at the top end of the draft by Howie just yet. Overall I’d say Wentz was a good pick, but he’s not even an Eagles anymore while Fletcher Cox and Lane who were drafted before him still are.

I'm not a Wentz hater but IMO 2016's quarterback class was a little like this year's - unremarkable. Goff & Wentz were probably the best of a kinda mediocre lot. It wasn't a great year to be drafting a "franchise quarterback".  I hope Howie remembers.

Dak got picked late in round 4 with a supplemental pick, I believe, and other than that, there was nobody preferable to Wentz.  Jacoby Brissett would be the fourth guy and absolutely nothing after that, so yeah, that was a thin crop of QBs.

I thought about Dak but he was no nobody's radar that I remember. Which brings up another discussion........

Howie said he jumped up to get Wentz, because he didn’t believe there would be a good quarterback coming out in the next few years. Watson, Mahomes, Jackson, and Allen all came out after that and are all better quarterbacks that Wentz. Dak Prescott is better too. All drafted after Wentz. We should be concerned about our GM.

Without doubt we should. I was disappointed when the Eagles moved up to get Wentz because I wanted them to wait a year for Watson.

You have a link?  I don’t remember him saying that, and I kind of doubt that he did.

It’s was well circulated at the time. It’s been a long time since it came out, but he definitely said it. He also compared Wentz and Goff to ice cream.

Uh oh. Something to keep an eye out for if there will be a Wentz benching.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/colts-among-teams-represented-liberty-153329970.html

"The two prospects that immediately come to mind for this matchup is squarely at quarterback. Liberty’s Malik Willis and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral are projected to be first-round picks in the 2022 NFL draft and will be the talk of the town for this matchup.”

Like many people stated if Wentz does indeed get benched to preserve that pick it will be to select another quarterback. Personally I don’t he’s benched and the only way he misses games will be due to COVID or injury.

Well now Howie wants to give up draft capital to fix that mistake.

One or two years ahead? I think he actually gave the number.

Anyway, we all need to grow up a little about this. It's not just how good a kid is coming out of college. It's the situation he lands in in the NFL. Whether the scheme matches his abilities, whether the coach knows how to develop him and scheme for him, what kind of off-field mentoring he gets, how he handles the wealth and attention, all that kind of stuff.

All that makes me suspect that if Wentz had gone to KC and Mahomes come here, people who think that players are just inherently great regardless of context would be whining that we got the wrong guy.

Agreed.  I’ve been preaching the exact same for quite some time here.

Howie wouldn't have said that without the scouting department telling him that.  That would have been Douglas and Weidl.  Douglas is gone, but Weidl was instrumental in evaluating and pushing for Jalen Hurts.

There have been reports of many different names involved in the drafting of Hurts, and we know Howie, the owner, and Doug personally went to meet Wentz before he was drafted so they were all very much involved in that process. Even if Howie was being fed the line no good quarterbacks were coming out there was no reason to say it, just like there was no reason for him to claim the Eagles were a "quarterback factory.” No Howie was trying to boast and show people he was smart for making that move, and he turned out to be wrong. He also tried to use trading up for Wentz as why they have struggled in the draft. Ironically the one draft when they didn’t even have a first was arguably is his best draft. The ambiguity of the Eagles organization makes it difficult for people to point the finger at Roseman. He always seems to have scapegoat. That’s why he’s the only GM to survive 4 different coaches.
