He is the CEO and Schwartz was one of his senior managers. From that perspective it would be a valid question.  Wouldn’t be much different that the Walmart CEO asking one of their regional managers why his same store numbers have mostly been under for the last two quarters.  Frankly, my hope that Lurie does look at things a bit like a business leader that gives me hope his evaluation of Howie leads to his involuntary departure.

I think it's very different. Football has a pinnacle. Operations in a business do not. They reached the pinnacle. There's literally nothing left to accomplish that season. If you want to ask that question before the start of a new season as a means to prepare for a repeat situation, fine. But the night of or day after, whenever it was, is just crazy.

Agreed our starting qb for 2022 is not on this team right now.... - there are two things that worry me with Hurts - Longterm wise.

1) If he does not progress in his read and react even a little bit, the young wr's will suffer, and not develop as much as they could with a proper QB.

2) He could make enough plays with his legs to excite people, like certain fans/media types and more importantly the HC and Howie could think there is potential and keep him next year.

If it is impossible to obtain a long term high end qb this off-season, then I don’t want to invest in a new 2022 starting qb just to force it and make a change.  I’d sooner waste a year with Hurts or Minschew.

#1 is a huge issue.  I posted about the 2021 WR draft class this morning and DeVonta Smith, as the #1 option on  a team that throws the ball 37 times is on part with a guy like Rondale Moore, who is the 4th option on a team who throws the ball 33 times.  They should not be close in stats.

#2 I'm not as worried about anymore.  Josh Allen showed more with his legs last night than Hurts has all year.  I don't think his legs have made much of an impact this year but there's a lot of football left.

To follow up.  I'm guessing that spot is Opeta's

Yep. Clark back down on PS but Opeta still on Covid list. Clark was Covid elevated last week.

The second scenario is probably why I'm harsher on Hurts than I should be. I don't think he's a terrible QB. He can win you games and is versatile with his legs. He's the ideal backup, IMO. But the worst thing that could happen to this team is that we get an Andy Dalton in Cincinnati scenario where he's not bad enough to move on from, but he's not good enough to win you anything meaningful and go deep into the playoffs. And then you blink and 4-5 years have gone by only for them to figure that he's not the guy. They have to know 100% for sure what their move is at that position this offseason. Because they have the draft capital to actually make a move to get a guy. That's gone after this offseason. So they can't mess around and stay with Hurts if he isn't 100% the guy.

There was a simple reason we couldn't run the ball: we couldn't block the interior.  Dickerson and Driscoll and Kelce were physically dominated all game. Nor were they coherent in their blocking. Their combo-blocks were badly timed and the release of the one blocker to the second level basically wasn't there. Combo blocks require both OL to hit the defender at the same time. Not only that, they have to be hip to hip so the defender can't split them. When the All-22 goes up I'll post a couple of no-nos. As for the tackles, it looked to me that Mailata's right leg wasn't, um, right. He couldn't drive off it well and he had trouble pivoting. Dillard was our best OL that game, and by a lot. Most of our successful runs were to the left. Pass rush pressure came from the inside for the most part, although Mailata got beat a few time to his right.

There were a few reasons for the failure of the short/screen game other than rank stupidity. The first was that we got nowhere inside. The second was that our guards and center did not seal LB pursuit. The third was that our slot receiver whiffed on several blocks (I'm looking at you, Reagor). His man came clean and the back had no chance.

I have high hopes for Jackson.  The last timeline for him I saw was the last week of October he should be good to go.  I really think Howie needs to be doing everything in his power to send Ertz/Goedert to Arizona.  They now have nothing at tight end with Max Williams out.  At 5-0, the Cardinals are in a prime position to be a buyer and go all in for a SB.

You make that trade, sign Dick Rod and go with him until Jackson is healthy.

Businesses do have pinnacles, just different ones.  You and Manu are deflating the little hope I have that Lurie will fire Howie at the end of this season. Got to find those glimmers of hope wherever we can.

49% hit rate on 2nd round WRs and Howie picks one of the 51% that don’t hit.  Not sure anyone is surprised by that.  What I worry about is the ability to cut loose second day failures in a timely fashion. Part of me just hopes he is keeping Tyree Jackson’s roster spot warm.

To be fair didn't Lurie pick JJAW?

I think Goedert will be back

Eagles need to make that contract now cause if it gets to the off season he is going to be a Dallas Cowboy. Or they will be forced to tag him.

Didn't he? I'm pretty sure I heard a rumour (and that could be untrue) that Lurie really wanted JJAW.

Well.......Bye.

Yup,

Mailata looked Abit gimpy, his kick was way slower than normal, he looked like his was playing on one leg all game , which he was.

I've changed my tune about playing Minshew, or even Flacco.

If Sirriani thinks that he can have a more productive offense with one of those guys, he needs to play them.

Prove that you're a good coach and that you're just being held back by a QB that you "don't want".

Well... here's the thing, do you think he really wanted Flacco?  Or that Minshew is the answer?

Fulgham couldn't cut it on the practice squad huh.

Thats what I heard as well, that Lurie really liked JJAW after watching him and directed Howie to get him, I mean who needs a scouting department when one has a bean counter and a Hollywood movie producer making picks...😒

An estimation?  From the team?  Isn’t there a requirement for an official injury report?

26 minutes ago, eagle45 said:

Well, Minshew and Flacco are not even close to the answer.  Flacco has a much better arm than Hurts, but he's pretty terrible.  He'll keep it more respectable on passes over 15 yards, but I'm pretty sure Hurts gives us a better chance to win.

Minshew...I suspect he's going to do more for the passing offense than Hurts.  I think it will be easier for Siri to use the whole field and push it downfield with Minshew.  But again, Minshew really is not that good, so I'm not going to be calling for him.

To your point...yes...if you think you can at least run your version of the offense better with one of the other guys, then you need to make the change.

yup

Ok, so what do we do?

I'm being told that we can't evaluate the coach because he's being held back by the QB. So, does this mean we have to wait until he gets his hand picked guy?

And then how much time does he get to let said hand picked guy develop?

This is setting up for a looooong rebuild process if that's the case.

Flacco and Minshew can make NFL throws, so shouldn't that be a big improvement in a good scheme?

Cowboys are fine at tight end.  Schultz and Jarwin are more than capable.  I think a lot of their money will go in to retaining their own guys.

Definitely not me and it doesn't look like @4for4EaglesNest although he does have blond hair.  They were only allegedly making love so no crime as far as I can see.
