What would Hurts's stat line need to look like to show improvement? 2021 season he was 61% completion (28th), 3150 passing yards (21st), 16 passing TDs (23rd), and averaged 210 yards passing per game (27th).

Would he need 65%+ (19th) completion, 3600+ (13th) yards passing, 18+ (21st) passing TDs, and 230+ (17th) passing yards per game to show progress, or would there need to be a bigger leap than that?

Interesting thought. What I’m getting from all this is that Seumalo’s recovery is in doubt.

I have been concerned about Seumalo since he got hurt.  It was a foot injury and suggestion is that it was a lis franc.  A lis franc can differ in a wide range.  Duce never ran the same after his.  It can impact the ability to push with the foot which could be detrimental to a G.

If strong shows out enough in practice and pre  season and camp then maybe coaches don't draft a QB in the 1st next year

The cowboys messed around with Quincy Carter and drew Henson with Tony Romo holding a clip board, after Henson and Carter went down in flames I guess the coaches were like how bout this undrafted kid why don't we give him a chance, 4 pro bowls and multiple playoff failures later it's all in the books...🤷‍♂️

If strong won the starting job I'd hope he has better success in the playoffs than Romo and they don't ask him to hold for extra points 😕

Romo is such a weird case study...while a lot of his late season collapses can be attributed to himself.  I liken him to Rivers, bad coaching only allows a good player to go so far.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much about strong.  I think he's a decent prospect, but Hurts is being spoon fed with a golden spoon right now.  I don't know if he'll ever get his chance.  Also Strong kinda comes off as a cocky dewsh.

It is all so simple, and @RememberTheKoy doesn’t even see it.

All he has to do to remove Carson Strong as a threat to his hero, is declare him the second best QB on the roster.

Devon Allen won the Penn Relays hurdles yesterday.  110 m hurdles in 13.11 seconds

See Ryan Tannehill 2020 stat line.

One thing not discussed enough is how much AJ  Brown can help out not only in the run game but also the screen game.  How many screens did we throw last year to watch a corner or safety just blow up Reagor or Quez and make a tackle.  Those plays now have chances to be huge gains

I hope we didn't trade the farm and give $100M to a guy just to block.

Even if he progresses as a passer, and with these weapons, Jalen’s strengths are still as a mobile QB, so it’s probably going to be something in between.

He had 3100 passing yards last year in 15 games. I want to see 4000 in 17 games and 35 combined pass/rush TDs. Also a total QBR over 55 on the season; he was at 48 last year which is just below average.

No but let’s not pretend a WR can’t help the run and screen game if they’re plus blockers

Overall number I don't really care about.  Realistic...a consistent completion percentage.  Not 40% for 3 quarters and then 80% in garbage time.  He needs to go into the locker room at half time having eclipsed 100 yards passing every week as well.  If we maintain a run/screen heavy approach then using the PA to chunk yards, I don't care what his total passing yards look like.

That makes it perfect.

And without that fact  those players in mock drafts would have made sense with the assets we had going into it. Incredible.

If it works, Hurts to RB will be next

Legit tho, I think Hurts would actually be a good RB. It’s likely too late for him to change now, but I liken it to the Peter Principle kinda.

How does a guy like this go undrafted.

"Touch-or-torch" pocket passer with rare blend of power and finesse to turn low percentage throws into completions. His surgically repaired right knee might hinder the sturdiness of his throwing base, but Strong still throws with velocity, accuracy and touch either on or off-platform. He has the talent to attack any coverage and all areas of the field. Nonchalant eye discipline and a gunslinger mentality means he's likely to see additional air traffic and turnovers as he transitions from Nevada's Air Raid offense. Scouts rave about his leadership and "killer instinct." He clearly has first-round talent, but long-term durability concerns surrounding his knee could force teams to take a more cautious approach with his projection and draft slotting.

I can’t believe no one has suggested that in goal line situations we have Davis carry the ball with mailata blocking as his fullback….

His knee injury sounds pretty significant to be fair.

To me,  it's not about stats, He can build all kinds of stats in garbage time. F That

it's about passing the eye test when I watch him play. He needs to learn to play from the pocket, learn to read the defense post snap and go through his progressions, step up in the pocket and deliver the ball ON TIME. If he cant do that, no level of WR's will help him get where he needs to be.

I do wonder if Foles will retire this offseason. He's not short of money and after almost retiring in 2016, I can see him moving onto other things and spend more with the family.  He doesn't need the NFL

It does mean something. It means there are enough issues with him that a completely QB desperate league had passed on him entirely in the full draft. If you honestly believe that Carson Strong has a chance to earn the starting job this year or next then you need to realize you have become completely detached from reality and no reasonable or sensible person outside of the echo chber hive mind of this blog would consider that anything close to a realistic possibility.

They say, "dimming someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine any brighter.”

Talking ish about our QBs other than Hurts, won’t make Hurts any better

Stat lines don't matter.

Long drives and scoring points matter - and I don't care if Hurts does it with his arm or legs, as long as he does it, especially in big games.

It's not as simple as "stay in the pocket," it's a matter of game awareness, if you have a clean pocket, be patient, if an OL is getting overmatched, know when to leave and extend a play or run for the 1st down. Hurts' legs are a major weapon, it's learning when and how to use that weapon to complement and support the passing game.

As far as Strong, he went undrafted, something serious going on for that to happen, the knee, 'tude, IQ, who knows?

But I expect nothing until I see him in action this fall, throwing perfect passes with a red vest on means nothing.

I had to chuckle at the irony.

That's an antiquated way of thinking that you, yourself, did not buy into until the Eagles QB became a runner.

Doing it with your arm is more consistent, more reproducible, more reliable in the playoffs, and more proven with champion teams.  QB's running downfield introduce chaos.  In 2022 when offenses are so precise and unstoppable, chaos when your team has the ball favors the other team.

It does matter if the QB has to do it with his arm or legs in big spots.
