Tactically, Ronaldo at this point is a poacher without a holdup game. He’s never been a "back to the net” kind of guy, and asking him to be that guy just isn’t going to work despite his size and strength.

He needs a role where he’s a shadow striker who runs onto assists and sits in the box. His best qualities at this point are anticipation, heading, off ball movement, and power. If a coach plays to those attributes he’ll still be better than most in the world.

My opinion, he needs to be in a 4-4-2 type of setup with a target man next to him. Actually, Benzema from last season would be perfect. He needs to be on a position where ball carrying isn’t something asked of him and he can just clean up trash and fire shots on goal that are knocked into his runs, because in that role I still don’t think there are many CBs that can handle him.

The ego is a problem though. It’s one of the reasons I thought Zidane was so underrated. You need a coach with the gravitas to convince him that if he wants to continue to play at the top level he needs to continue to adapt to his physical decline.

He was perhaps the greatest in the history of sports at adapting his game, going from a 17 year old flamboyant but wasteful winger, to a Ballon d’Or winner with United, to the best player in the world as a LW early in his Madrid career, to a sort of wide target man late at Madrid, to a pure poacher with Juve. He’s capable of adapting his game, but he needs a coach to orchestrate it. You can’t just fit him into a team at this point like you could when he was winning the UCL every year. He’s nearly 40. Time comes for us all, and if a coach wants to use him, they need to bend some things around him.

That all said, I’m not betting against him in a final. Messi? Absolutely slam the lay in a clutch moment. But not Ronaldo.

Goals in clutch moments so far this tournament...

And a little bit of transfer news…

Endrick is finalizing a €60M move to Madrid. He’s probably the highest rated Brazilian since Ronaldo Nazario, especially at barely 16 years old. Real beat Barca, PSG, and some others for his signature.

Perfect addition to Madrid’s collection of young players. He’s a RW/ST, left footed unlike Vini and Rodrygo. Very skillful but takes pride in his work rate. At this point the only real negative on him is height, but at his age he should have a couple more inches to grow.

Remember the name.

Pessi can’t even convert the penalty donations his Qatari slave masters pay for.

Unfortunately, clueless children and child sized "men” live vicariously through the infantile Pessi. Many such cases. Always second best.

 Awww, is someone super salty that his boyfriend is now universally renown for being an overrated washed up drama queen that nobody wants on their team?

The problem he's now got is that he's not good enough now for a) a team to build around him and make him the focal point. And b) he's not able to play in the way that most teams now play. And so he's got to accept a role as a back up or in a lesser league somewhere in the world.

Agreed on B. He doesn’t have the legs to press, and that was not really something he ever did a lot of (though I have to say, he was EXCELLENT as a defensive forward for Madrid in the final 10 minutes of matches… any big game his fitness, speed and strength showed when he was motivated to close out matches).

On A, the problem is his age. No team is going to make a bunch of transfers to accommodate a guy of his age. I think if he came into a team already setup in a 4-4-2 with a good target man at striker you could absolutely have him as your primary goal scorer. He had what — 27 goals last year? In a team that lacked talent with sub-optimal tactics for his skills?

He can do that better than most still, but as you said it requires teams to be setup for it.

Hey remember that time that Messi tried to blatantly steal credit for a goal from his own teammate? Then cried about being subbed off in the next game, only for him to get benched for the game after that and had to watch from the bench while his replacement score a hat trick? Pretty much cementing the notion that his teammates all hate him and play much better when he's not on the pitch? No wait, sorry, that was Crynaldo that all happened to.
