I think this so called "golden mean" exists throughout the majority of the United States...if we turned off our TV's and smartphones.   No secret that I'm a Conservative but definitely more on the moderate side.  There are certain issues that liberal friends/co-workers support that I just can't get on board with but there are just as many that I understand their view point and just happen to disagree with.

AF mentioned his thoughts on the hard right but failed to mention the same crazies on the opposite side.  For every Q person he mentioned there is a person with one of those "In this house we believe..." yard signs or teacher telling their kindergarten class about their love life.

The problem is, the extremes have taken over and everyone wants to lump all D on the side that wants drag shows in our schools and libraries and all R are gun toting, red hat wearing bumpkins.  That's just not the case.  The real problem is culture is being dictated by a very small percentage of people and that's causing a huge division.  If you change culture, you can change the entire way of life.

Take away social media and the media and we'd find that our common ground is much more common than we think.  The sad thing is we can't do that.

A video camera on every person doesn’t help matters.

ESPN's Matt Miller on top 2023 QB prospects:

Would take Will Anderson over either of those 3 in a heartbeat, don't care how much Hurts sucks this season. Would do anything I could to get Anderson unless there's a QB prospect they can get who jumps out as generational. The Eagles are going to have to blow their load on a QB trade up, so when they do it better be someone who's definitely an elite franchise guy. Don't think either of those 3 are going to be that.

It hurts to see it

I was a science major as an undergraduate, before I went into public policy, economics & law. I believe in following the evidence, changing your mind as new evidence becomes available, and that applies to politics as well as sports. I don't respect people who blatantly ignore facts in favor of their own prejudices.

As far as Hurts, he's the QB, moan all you want, we'll know by December whether he's improved enough to go forward with him. But there is no alternative, no one other than a few posters here thinks Minshew is a starting NFL QB. Heck, he's not in the same league with Fitzpatrick, who has built a nice career as a #21-32 type, good enough to start on bad teams, but ideally suited to #2 on good teams. That's Hurts' floor, that's Minshew's ceiling.

Jergens is a Kelce clone, with one difference, Jergens is significantly bigger and stronger and almost as athletic at 23 lbs heavier (weights when tested).

Kelce  6-3 280, 4.89   1.70    ---     4.14   7.22   30     9'2 [40, 10 split, reps, SS, cone, VT, LJ]

Jergens 6-3 303, 4.92   1.71    25     4.48   7.19   33   9’11

I think the transition to Jergens next season, if Kelce retires, will be seamless. The one thing Jergens will add is a stronger anchor against the pass rush. Of course, he's years away from having the experience and smarts of Kelce, but he has the raw tools to excel.

I will take this bet if you would be willing.  Winner chooses loser's avatar for 1 month?   Their QB situation is similar to ours, so I just don't see any way a rookie 2nd rounder has a better year than any Eagles receiver.  Define better year?  More yards?

Let me think here.

AJ Brown hasn't played a full season yet but averages 4.3 catches per game for 70 yards, or 73 catches for 1,190 yards in a 17 game season

DeVonta Smith as a rookie had 64 catches for 916 yards and 5 TD.   4 catches per game as Hurts #1 WR.

Dallas Goedert had 56 catches for 830 yards (Ertz had 18 for 189) so let's say TE had 74 catches for 1,019 yards

Greg Ward- 7 catches

Quez Watkins- 43 catches

Kenny Gainwell- 33 catches

Miles Sanders- 26 catches

Boston Scott- 13 catches

Jalen Reagor- 33 catches

Jack Stoll- 4 catches

Tyree Jackson- 3 catches

Dick Rod- 2 catches

JJAW- 2 catches

Lane Johnson- 1 catch

Overall, the Eagles had 306 completions (265 from Hurts averaged to 300/17 games)  out of 492 attempts.  That's an average of 18  completions out of 29 attempts.  Just using the average numbers for the top 3 (including Brown) that would 210 completions.  You still have 167 completions to just give the other players their 2021 stats in a run heavy offense.  Jalen Hurts would need 377 completions just to keep up with 2021+AJ Brown meaning he would have to go from 17.5 completions per game to 22.  Is Jalen Hurts going to complete 4.5 more passes per game?  My guess is no.  Where I'm going with this is the following:

I don't see the Eagles becoming a pass happy team even if they want to.  It's not Jalen Hurts strength.  Has Hurts shown anything that shows us that he can complete 4.5 more balls a game?  Even if he improves and he completes 2 extra passes per game that's only 331 completions...46 less than the total of Brown+Eagles 2021 numbers.

Are both Brown and Smith going to catch 5 passes per game while Goedert catches 4-5?  Right there you have 15 completions with none to Watkins, Reagor/Ward, Gainwell, Sanders, Scott or TE2.

But let's say Brown and Smith get 5 per game, a slight bump from their averages and Goedert catches 4 (down from his 4.3).  Based off of their career averages, they would put up the following.

AJ Brown- 85 catches, 1,377 yards

DeVonta Smith- 85 catches, 1,215 yards

Dallas Goedert- 69 catches, 809 yards

Right there is 3,400 yards in your top 3 guys.  There's just no way that happens.

I'm getting way off track from the George Pickens bet.  My guess is he catches 50 for 850 and 5 TD so just from averages, no you're correct.  He won't have a better year than the Eagles best WR.

What does that have to do with anything?  I was asking why it seems that's the type the go for.  The entire RB room is small.  Also, no one in this RB room could sniff Westbrooks jock.

I know he's a last minute signing due to injury but what is it with the Eagles and these short, compact RB?

DeAndre Torrey, 5-7 195

Boston Scott, 5-6 203

Kenny Gainwell, 5-9 200

Jason Huntley, 5-9 195

Miles Sanders and Kennedy Brooks are their "big" backs both at 5-11 210-213

This RB room is depressing in my mind.

It's been so long he's going to need a good massage after taking some hits and getting bruised up.

Yeah, I agree. I'm trying to be more on the positive side of things but I would love to go and trade for Johnson from the Browns. I can't see him costing all that much.

Watched all the clips in that thread. The issues are Jalen not keeping his eyes downfield, leaving the pocket too early, and not synching his dropback to the play. Seems like it's all on Jalen to me. There's a wide open receiver in every clip except one.

That is exactly what concerns me about the reports of him running in 7 on 7s and some of the runs in 11 on 11. What I am not seeing from the practice notes from the beat reporters is that Hurts broke the pocket, xxx receiver maintained the route, got open and Hurts having kept his eyes downfield, delivered a pass to the receiver.  Mahommes runs, Allen runs, Rodgers runs, Wilson runs.  The difference is they don’t crouch to a RB running and lower their eyes looking for holes, they keep their eyes downfield, always looking to pass first.  That is a flaw in Hurts’ game and we aren’t hearing about his improving that in the 10 TC practices so far.  He isn’t going to get tackled in 7 on 7s so move around behind the LOS and buy time for the receiver to get open.

Well, how the hell would any of us know this? It's not like there's been any kind of open competition, it's been Hurts job since the day they drafted him in round 2. He pushed Wentz out the door, he's done nothing to "earn" a starting role, and for all the hooplah of Sirianni being a guy who oozes competition, he refuses to allow one at the most important position on the team.

There's something rotten in the state of Denmark.

First team offense and defense first and foremost.

After that I'm excited to see what Dean looks like because he seems like a player that would be better in actual games then practices with no hitting and tackling.  Interested to see Sinnett since he lit up preseason last year for the Dolphins.  Also want to see Pascal since he has been impressing in the short time since he finally started practicing.

Yup.

I want to see if dean can shed a block.

In college he either out ran blocks or got real skinny and slipped them

What's going to happen when a pulling tackle or guard gets up on him, will Dean be able to shed that block get off him and make the tackle.

Having said that will be nice having a guy like Davis to keep him clean.

Sinnett I'm Interested to see.

He has good size at 6'4" and a pretty good arm.

Pascal don't really care about at all, Siri has said he really likes speed from the slot Watkins and reagor ( if not traded) fit that bill, Pascal not so much.

I think he's redundant in that he's best with short stuff over the middle in traffic where that role will be filled by AJ brown and goedert.

Further more, @austinfan, you want facts

How's this (and I'm not even pushing for Minshew to start, I think he's a good backup)

Minshew, with the same team around him that Hurts had:

20/25 242 yards, 2 TDs, 0 Ints, and 11.28 adjusted yards/attempt.

But go on, tell us how Minshew's ceiling is Hurts floor.

Like, Hurts against the Giants:

14/31 129 yards, 0 TDs and 3 INTs.

Equally terrible teams.

You can step off your high horse now.

Reagor has returned punts, sort of. Not sure he has the ability to do it. I’m looking for Covey and Pascal to move ahead of him.

From reading the beats camp notes, it sounds like the offseason messaging got through to Reagor.  We will see if it sticks.  Supposedly came into camp in good shape and working hard on routes.  Now the tell will be on plays where he isn’t the target.   Trust must be earned.

EAGLES FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Why do we always play the Jets Preseason?  I feel like we've been playing them for the last 20 years in the Preseason, lol.  Ironically we still hold an Undefeated record against them All-Time in the Regular Season.    With that said, I only want to see 1 series with the starters if possible.  If not, fine, save it for Game 2.  But if they do it for a series that will be cool.   I want to see these weapons in action.   I mean we got Jalen, AJ, Devonta, Dallas, Miles, Boston, Kenny.  Such a great young nucleus.  Just get a nice flow going and get everyone out.   Let the players on the bubble get playing time.

Honestly think Ward has a better chance of earning a roster spot over Hightower.

He does? I must be misremembering last season because didn't he suck at returns?
