Random question… as a football fan, do you like it when certain franchises that you’ve gotten used to being good almost every year continue to be competitive every year? Or do you prefer parity and seeing new teams jump up and take the mantle?

For example, if when Aaron Rodgers hangs them up, if the Packers go a long stretch sucking and not making the playoffs, would you miss seeing them competitive because they’re a historic franchise, or would you welcome say the Lions becoming good and taking over as the team of the NFC north because it’s different?

I am generally indifferent, as relevance is mostly QB driven.  And they, for the most part, come and go.

That said, I am happy that the Patriots are no longer on the radar anymore.

It's going to be a very long season for people like you.

Yeah, cause Hurts is going to complete all of his passes, score a TD on every possession, and have a perfect QB rating for the year.

Trey Lance also had a 158.3 QB rating last night.

I agree somewhat, but I also like to see certain teams successful based on their fan bases and venues they play in, because I think both contribute to a more epic big game atmosphere. For example, a win and in regular season game in Lambeau or a playoff game in cold weather at Lambeau just brings something special that say a game of the same magnitude in Jacksonville simply wouldn’t bring. But I do agree that regardless of venue and history, a team with a crappy QB just sucks the juice out of any game with implications. It’s why I hated watching those good Bears teams when they had Rex Grossman.

Any of you Defensive specialist out there in the blog.

Wondering what y'all thought of Gannons fronts yesterday

Seemed he went 2-4 quite a bit with the second team on passing downs, a few overload blitzes bringing the nickel OLB and ILB all on one side.

Then there were times where he switched to amore over nickel look with 3 Down one standing  out wide.

Not sure how many  base 3-4 looks were called, ist the base 4-3 fronts looked like over or under fronts🤷‍♂️

I'd assume Hargrave would get the start over Milton at DT.

Be interesting to see how Gannon mix and matches his personnel with different fronts.

This is where the play should have gone, Goedert clears the defender covering Brown, the safety is irrelevant, and is hit by the circled defender as he has to stop his route.

The star in this picture is where Goedert would have been if he kept running the route, instead of having to stop to catch this pass, and would have walked in untouched.

This is a great example of not understanding the basics. The defense has three deep zone defenders, and four intermediate ones.

One of the deep zone defenders slips after the ball is released, and the reaction is, throw it deep, it's wide open!

So the correct thing to do is assume the defender will slip every time? Or do you look for the soft spot in the zone? Goedert isn't expecting the ball on the pylon. He has no idea the deep defender slipped. He is expecting the ball between the intermediate and deep zones.

At this point, i have to wonder why i even need to explain this. This is pretty basic football.

Go sign up for a free NFL+ seven day trial, and you can watch the condensed game.

I will be checking it out after family in town leaves.

The defender that slipped had his back to the play and trailing AJ Brown,  who takes his route into the end zone e to also hold the safety.

Even if that defender did not slip, if Goedert had kept running to the pylon, he had no chance to get there.  It would only make sense for Goedert to sit down in that zone if AJ was going to the corner.  AJ’s route was designed to open up the corner for Goedert.

Score TWO TDs on every possession, actually.

The offense looked like a deep playoff team on that first drive which may mean nothing given the time of year and opponent. Our defense will probably like so often dominate at times but then make colossal mistakes.

It was the Jets, who I was told last year after Minshew beat them, it was the Jets, and they stink.

And this was the preseason Jets.

I only watch Packers because Rodgers is amazing to watch. When he goes then there goes my interest in watching that team

Never cared to watch a Chargers game in years until Herbert

I'll only watch and be excited about a game because of a certain player. Eagles are the only ones where it's based on the team

Any further discussion of the Goedert TD should happen after anyone engaging in the discussion watches this video, which is effectively the all 22 angle.

Hurts releases the ball when Goedert is crossing the 10. Goedert knows where the ball is going to be. Leading him to the pylon is likely an incompletion. Where it is thrown is where and how it is supposed to be thrown. Any corner covering Goedert has to win a jump ball with him while making up 10+ yards versus 5 for Goedert, since he catches the ball at the 5.

As far as firing it in, I don't see how that makes an easy pitch and catch easier. The ball is thrown before Goedert is out of his break. Do you want him throwing that pass hard? Earlier there was a comment about Sinnett only having one gear to his throws. This is a pretty good example of when some touch is needed.

If anything maybe Sanders could have cut his route shorter instead of carrying on down field to create better spacing.🤷‍♂️

Yup, I seem to remember Bradford having an amazing pre season game with the eagles and it was all for naught come regular season.

Hurts played well in his limited snaps and still I take it with a grain of salt as it's pre season

That pass concept is specifically targeting a cover 3 look from the defense, which the Jets love (Eagles knew they would be in this defense), and the Eagles get exactly what they want. The corner in the deep zone doesn't peel off AJ Brown nearly quick enough. Hurts' ball placement is good here, because he's expecting the CB to peel off so you're trying to get Goedert the ball there underneath that zone.

You're really trying to find something that isn't there. You can just admit that Hurts did well last night. It's okay.

Never said Hurts did not play well, but you are wrong on this play.

Wrong about what? This play isn't about Goedert running to the pylon and Hurts throwing a perfect pass to the corner to beat man coverage. It's about taking advantage of a zone defense. He threw it the way he did on purpose, which was the right call. If you want to nitpick, the ball could have been out slightly earlier.

But, did Bradford ever score 2 TDs on 1 drive?

No but he managed to throw a TD with his sleeves doubling as parachutes...

I wonder if the Chiefs are on the phone with Howie trying to trade Mahomes for Hurts.

142 QB rating and an incomplete pass, what a scrub.
