On offense, I think there effectiveness depends on Hurts being routinely effective.  He has to have a go to route that will be effective for the team in the passing game.  If they do that, I think the can be an above average offense.  I am more concerned that the defense will not look significantly better despite the upgrades.

I thought I saw the reporters saying the out route by Brown was Hurts go to throw in camp. We'll have to keep an eye out for it. Though, in the only pre-season action we saw, the play most analyzed (Hurts run on 3rd down where he got popped out of bounds), Brown ran a nice out route to the left and Hurts just didn't pull the trigger. But it was open.

The thing is, we don’t know if short passes and off target passes in practice are on Hurts or the WR for running the wrong route or a timing issue.  Actually, the suggestion was he was down considerably in interceptions this camp.   A lot of TC is focused on timing and placement.  What the Beats don’t know is what the progressions are on the play.  Finally, we don’t know if it is a defense or offense focused play.  The idea that the defense won or the offense won can be a bit off.  It could be that the offense is told to run a play specifically for the defense to practice against it.  Because of that, I tend to take the Beats views with a touch of skepticism.

That said, I tend to agree with @NCiggles.and you that there is probably some improvement but that we will probably experience frustration with Hurts during the season.   I dropped in to see what drivel Kempski was pushing today.   Interesting that he apparently changed his tune from the practice notes from the joint practice after Sirianni went through the play and the progressions on a couple of plays.  That kind of reinforces my perspective on the Beats’ practice notes.  I noted that Kempski had some sort of four questions for the other Beats and one of them was will Hurts be the QB in 2023.  The majority said yes.

Now of the Beats, my lowest is ESP, followed by BLG followed by Kempski (although I do like his college scouting suggestions only because he sometimes points to players I had yet to consider, so basically Beast) then a toss up between Wulf and Chris Franklin.  I can’t imagine actually listening to ESP on purpose.

To piggyback on this a little, passing games have a rhythm. One, two, ball out on three. However, if the DB jumps a route or the WR doesn't get off a jam, so that there's no throw on three, the QB comes off him and looks elsewhere. If the WR gets free after the rhythm throw, it's not the fault of the QB that he doesn't throw to him. It may look open to us but it wasn't when it was supposed to be. Very hard for us to tell.

@downundermike do you care to argue this point?

I got an athletic subscription earlier this year for like a dollar a month for 6 months. My 6 month sub is ending this month, so I went to cancel so it doesn’t auto renew. When I went to cancel they gave me an offer to stay for a year’s subscription for $20.

Not sure if that happens every time, but I’d recommend never paying full price for an athletic sub if you want one. Wait for the deals that come once a month, and then when you go to cancel you’ll probably get a major discount to renew.

Is that any good?   Usually Hulu has nothing to watch.  Only thing I've seen on there lately was that new Predator movie, which was awesome btw.

Two first episodes were good.

Haven't watched  new predator yet, I have a tough time when animals die even if they're CGI.🤷‍♂️

@TorontoEagle @4for4EaglesNest

Not sure how you finish top 3 when everyone is projecting 5 or below

I thought the go to route was a slant route.  Sounded like a quick slant.  Jim Kelley was dangerous throwing to his munchkin WRs with the Houston Gamblers with a quick slant. The WR read the defensive player and either ran the slant inside or outside depending on the read.  Wonder if Nick and Shane have any of that built into their routes.  Kevin Gilbride tried that with Eli and the Giants with mixed success.   Brown looks like an excellent receiver to use with such a route.

If the Eagles have a top 5 pick next year, I'm finding a way to get Will Anderson and then if a QB falls use that pick for a QB.

Agree that we need a RB in the worst way.

Watching the game last night, both teams have legit RB.  As much as we want to support Boston Scott and Kenny Gainwell, they are more gadget type/situational RB.   I don't look at them like true RB.  Trey Sermon is a RB. Dameon Pierce is a RB.

Ask the Redskins how taking Chase Young over Justin Herbert is going for them

I think the issue has been Hurts throwing behind him on slants. At least I think I recall seeing that in a few reports. Most of the reports of his out throws were very positive. I agree with you, the slant should be the staple of our offense.

@TorontoEagle @4for4EaglesNest

Just looked at the Athletics fantasy projections, they have Najee projected to finish 4th, almost 200 yards behind 3rd place.

Yup

@TorontoEagle @4for4EaglesNest I literally can not find a fantasy football site that has Najee Harris ranked higher than RB5.

 It's not like you don't know when a QB is routinely making quick reads and accurate throws regularly vs. occassionally. While we may not know what the design of any given play may be, we can judge when an offense isn't routinely effective.  Of course, the coaches will have a better perspective on Hurts.

It's OK.  You can cry at Predator.  No one will judge you.

Guess the Philly reporter who said this

Ward helped this team win a lot of games and a lot of big games the last few years.

Whoever said that isn't lying.  He was huge in getting the team to the playoffs in 2019.
