$700 without the disc drive and doesn't come with the stand lol

Yeah I'm good lol. I've never got the pro model of any console.

has anything other than PS4 Pro existed? Xbox One has like 37 different flavors of console so I guess the One X maybe could have been considered a "Pro" version?

Yeah, Xbox One X and One S were the equivalent of the Pro / Base model dynamic with Sony, only that they launched at the same time. The Switch had their OLED edition but it only provided a better display and battery life, silicon remained the same. I don't recall anything other than the typical slim variants on the PS3/360 gen.

And yeah that $700 price point is kind of a joke. But it's not that much of a departure from the prices we're seeing for GPUs on PCs. Enthusiasts won't have an issue dropping that kinda cash but the problem is the lack of sw to take advantage of the hw. Even in my case, I was ready to updgrade my GPU but I had a hard time justifying the cost when the only game I would play to even take advantage of it was the Cyberpunk DLC. Everything else I play on PC still looks and plays fine. That's the same issue on PS5, very few, if any, games will be able to justify dropping that much money on the pro version even if you dont have a PS5 at all yet and are in the market for one.

While I disagree with and dislike the $700 price point… watching this video made me realize/remember that as a broke college student maybe making $8k a year between work study and summer jobs/internships, I dropped $600 on a PS3. That’s the equivalent of me spending like $10,500 on a gaming console at my present-day earnings… maybe $700 isn’t outrageous even tho the lack of disc drive and vertical stand are absurd

I should of said slim versions as well.

Didn’t want to create a new thread for what might be a one off post, but are there people/buyers grading video games like they do for "baseball cards”?

This nonsense showed up as I was scrolling through FB Marketplace

The predictable outrage about "woke DEI video games" is already in full swing, I wish they'd just be honest and say it's because the female protagonist isn't titsy enough.

Yeah, I bought a Sega Master System when I earned $10 a week on a paper route, that's like me paying $85k for a console now, except that's not how inflation works and a $700 price point plus extra if you want to play the games you bought previously on physical media or use the stand (as Sony recommend you do) is ridiculous.

The PS5's problem is not a lack of power, it's about the worst supported console in terms of AAA titles at this stage of it's life cycle I can remember, my games shelf is growing by maybe 3 titles a year if that, making a more powerful console just means the games take even longer to develop to incorporate features like 8K graphics that have little practical value to 90odd% of your installed user base.

A lot of people are hoping Sony keeps support of PSVR2 now that the price is manageable and people are buying it

The glaring lack of games for PSVR1 is the reason I'm massively reluctant to drop a few hundred on PSVR2.

I understand Call of the Mountain is really good, and I actually tried Gran Turismo 7 in PSVR2 with a decent force feedback steering wheel and it was genuinely incredible, but there were a couple of outstanding highlights on the first one and not a lot else, it needs more.

Recently back on the Sony train. BAsically had both PS4 and xbox but then went solely xbox as I had kids and whatnot. Then about a year or two ago I sold my xbox series x because I just was never playing it after my 2nd kid was born. Probably the first time since I was 11 years old (now 35) without a console.

Now they're a bit older and I have more free time so I bought a PS5 to play all the exclusives Ive missed over the years.

Games ive downloaded so far to play (some arent exclusive, just ones ive missed in the past year or so as I was consoleless)

  • Astro Bot (started this and really only because I bought the digital astro bot bundle and turns out this game is incredibly fun)

  • Star Wars - Survivor (been playing this for the most part, basically because I feel like its the first of the list that would be removed from PSN plus. Loving it but Im a star wars junkie so no surprise there)

  • God of War

  • God of War Ragnarok

  • Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

  • Assassins Creed Shadows

  • Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart

  • The Last of Us series

Played all except for Survivor because I still need to beat the previous game and Assassins Creed because I basically gave up on that franchise. Releasing an annual game has lowered the quality IMO

I started Astro Bot because I was bored one day. Excellent game

God of War, Last of Us, and Uncharted are classics

I played Ratchet and Clank mainly because of the reviews. That game was surprisingly amazing

The Spiderman games were good too

From that list you’ve already played more enjoyable games than @Mat has in his entire life. Kudos!

I have had each of every Microsoft and Sony console.

I will say I prefer PS for solo gaming, it’s just better and the exclusives are better overall.

Xbox though was able to really nail multiplayer functionality from the very beginning.

I am back in my PS years now as I age it seems and am far less likely to just play online FPS games all the time.

Finished Star Wars Jedi survivor last night, onto God of War tonight

The issue I have with Assassins Creed games now is they're all basically the same game reskinned and a bit bigger, the map is notionally big, but contains a lot of repeating encounters and there's some randomly placed huge difficulty spikes that you can run across by accident at any point but you need to be at endgame level to beat. The Viking one wasn't even about assassination at all, it was basically a viking invasion simulator, you didn't stealthily kill people with your wrist blade, you ran in shouting with your axe and slaughtered everyone.

Astrobot is surprisingly good, I've never been the biggest fan of platformers but it is right up there with the best.

Played Atomfall over the weekend for the first time, it's a decent premise and the setting and atmosphere are really good, but it's like they forgot about the gameplay until the last minute, the combat is the clunkiest I've seen since Atari ST days but the stealth doesn't work well enough to try and run it without combat, it's genuinely bizarrely bad. It's a real shame because the presentation deserved a lot better.
