FBI Raids Mar-A-Largo but ignores Pop Pop's much more egregious violations

Not retroactively, sparky. And there's a process for it, he can't just yell it out to an empty room with ketchup-stained walls like Michael Scott.

He was the one that literally announced it. How else can they do it "quietly" if he's gonna blab about it and play the victim card to get out ahead of the investigation?

Well, sparky, we don't know what he did or didn't do before hand. What we do know is it was a fishing expedition to see what else he may have had. Are you seriously so stupid you don't think a raid on an ex-president's house would get out if he didn't announce it himself? Answer: Probably.

Here’s the thing:  the National Archives has already asked him for the materials he took several times.  Trump did this to himself.

And what we know from the CNN/ABC story is he turned some stuff in. This was to verify he didn't have anything else. Even Megan McCain who hates him said this was stupid and made him look like a victim.

There are ways of handling things and that wasn't the best option.

Government is different from a private business. I work for the state.  When I leave, my stuff goes to the state archives.  I can check stuff out of the state archives if I want, much like a library book. This is often useful for performing investigations

Jesus, what state do you work for?  They need to be notified immediately that they have hired a moron.

Yes, because federal judges approve of search warrants for fishing expeditions all the time....

So how else do they execute the warrant then? Give the predator a ring and ask him to swing by with his cloaking device to zip through the house in between hunting aliens?

Read the story from CNN. It was to verify nothing else was there. Didn't say search for missing documents. Said to verify.

Probably like the one that happened months ago we didn't hear about because it wasn't a dog and pony show. Why give someone who plays the victim card another podium? It's stupid.

Assuming the reporting can be believed...

1. Trump and his attorneys have been in contact with the FBI about classified documents he took from the WH since, at the very latest, June of 2022.
2. The FBI low-key visited Trump in Mar-a-Lago asking to see the documents. They found classified documents and asked Trump to secure them.
3. Trump had previously been asked to return any classified documents he took. They've given him every opportunity to cooperate.
4. The FBI/DOJ obviously haven't been happy with the cooperation they've received from Trump so they decided to raid the place and get it back themselves.

All that being said, Trump better be able to produce the classified documents that the FBI observed back in June. Like... seriously. It better all be there. If not he's in a world of trouble.

Wait.... do you believe these two raids are connected and the explanation of why they were at Trumps is fabricated?

Yes, minus he evidently turned stuff in and this was to "verify" nothing else was there. Should he get special treatment? No. But this isn't a normal person it's an ex president and optics matter so patience and perhaps multiple more low-key visits should happen if only to prevent a circus like we are seeing.

I think you can reasonably assume, based on this, that the FBI left Mar-a-Lago in June knowing Trump STILL had classified documents in the basement that he hadn't turned over.

You just got done saying he turned SOME stuff in.  FBI went to get the rest of it.

Oh FFS. No Federal judge is issuing a search warrant to verify that all the material has been returned. They had to show a judge reasonable evidence that there was still material there and identify what they were looking for. And by most accounts they left with seized materials.

If the search warrant said "we're just confirming you gave us everything," Trump would have already posted it on Truth Social.

It's been over two years. How much time are you comfortable with the nation's most guarded secrets just sitting in the basement of a private citizen's golf course? Trump's had ample opportunity to come correct. He's invited all of this.

The guy who said he loved Wikileaks on the campaign trail isn’t careful with classified info?  You don’t say…

BUT...BUT...HE ALREADY SENT EVERYTHING BACK!

The Florida raid, which one of the people said took "hours,” resulted in the seizure of paper records, according to one person familiar with the development, who also noted that Trump attorney Christina Bobb was present during the search.

No, the FBI went to verify and we don't have a clue what else was or wasn't there. Again, if he had more and they wanted to keep making low-key visits then go for it. Rolling in with the circus giving him a podium was stupid. Optics matter. He doesn't deserve special treatment, but a greater level of discretion absolutely must occur. This was handled poorly.

I don't know. How long were you all comfortable with Hillary having a private server that she bleached? That doesn't mean he should get off the hook it means optics matter.

He's had over two whole years of discretion.

OK. Those of you who swear you are right will have to endure the circus, conspiracy theories, and the podium he now has to once again play the victim card with poor optics behind him to fire up supporters like the rest of us. It didn't have to happen this way. Again, even McCain who hates him said things similar.

As if this wasn't already the case.

There is no report that they left empty-handed. The FBI had to go in and remove the documents after they learned not everything was turned over. How many times do they need to ask him to turn over all classified materials in his possession? How are you not following this? It's really not that complicated.

I don't see how you can look at the years of public scrutiny that Hillary received from the FBI and political committees and then complain about the optics of Trump being investigating for stealing classified documents.

The FBI publicly announced a re-opening of a federal investigation into Hillary just months before an election. And here you are complaining that Trump is getting unfair treatment.

I mean, if this is all a witch hunt and they had no probable cause....

Trump could prove that right now by releasing a copy of the warrant. It would say what they were looking for, and why they searched his home. If it's all BS, Trump could prove that right now. He could show what they were looking for, and also what they took.

I'm surprised we haven't seen it yet. though I've been busy working so HazletonEagle can have his education subsidized.
