Rojas needs to do more of that. Perfect bunt.

Lo this team is so Fing embarrassing with runners in scoring position. And then add on you can’t Fing just get the challenge in on time.

1st and 3rd nobody out and they get nothing 🤣

I’d bet they go 3-6 into the break. They are usually awful in San Francisco. So I can see them losing two of three to the reds. Then getting swept in San Francisco and then winning two of three against San Diego.

Dombrowski’s offseason:

Luzardo— good for 2 months and now closer to his career 4.25 ERA with a 4.44 ERA at the moment

Ross with a 5.53 ERA

Romano with a 7.28 ERA

Kepler whose slashes are .210/.304/.685

I’m pretty sure i could’ve done a better job than this dog crap

Seems harder to do worse

Otto Kemp ain't it

Of course Bohm looks at a called 3rd strike on a pitch he should have driven into the gap.

10 left on base today by the Phils and 3-13 with RISP

And then whines about a clear strike

Garbage

What about Luzardo as bullpen help? Either by putting him in the pen or trade?

Nola slides in as the 4 and ideally gets it together. Painter isn’t looking like he’s ready for MLB rotation.

my thoughts on this:

I Mentioned this for the playoffs. He has great stuff and for an inning he likely can just let it all hangout. Right now need him in the rotation with Abel in triple a. Painter they don’t want to bring up and nola isn’t ready yet

I think we are headed towards Painter and Abel staying in AAA until spring training. It’s disappointing that another year goes by and no help from the farm.

I suppose Walker holds down the fort as the 5th starter until Nola returns. On return, Nola dukes it out with Luzardo for the 4th spot in the playoffs with the loser going to the pen.

I think Nola wouldn’t be as useful as Luzardo in the pen though…and Nola has extensive starting experience in the playoffs, despite how down on him we all are.

I think we always knew he was a fun spark plug who where everything he gave them was an unexpected bonus. But his limitations would shine through eventually.

My take on the above:

I was down on this team and their chances to get over the top. But this franchise historically sucks at identifying and carrying talent through the farm system into the big league club. Sucks. They flat out do not know how to do it. This current roster built itself mostly through buying players. As Painter sits in AAA with a 4 ERA still not ready for the majors and Miller is hitting .230 in AA...I think we need to get something through our heads: they aren't special or sacred. They are next in line.

I'd sell the farm to maximize their chances this year. Their next window isn't coming until they clear the Harper/Turner/Walker/Nola contracts and can buy themselves a new foundation. It sure as hell isn't coming from their minor league talent pool. Do what they can to get it done this year and then just let Middleton warm up his check signing hand for the next generation of free agents once this roster clears.

I think what you keep missing is as last year we talked about this. The guy everyone wanted to trade Aidan Miller and Crawford to get was Luis Robert Jr. Robert jr. Last year and outside of 2023 was never good enough to put them over. There has to be a prize out there to give up those guys. Otherwise you are going to make a trade with top 100 prospects of Brandon marsh. And as good as Brandon Marsh has been since he’s come back up, He still never came close to what they thought he was gonna be trading away. This has nothing to do with what all O’hoppe became. It has everything to do if you’re gonna maximize what ohoppe’s value was at the time which was close to a top 50 prospect you should’ve gotten more than marsh to get you over the top

Mason miller was that type of guy and frankly the A’s were asking for miller, painter and Crawford. So essentially, you would deplete your entire farm system for a closer. who still wouldn’t have put them over the top last year. Add right now they’d still need another bullpen arm and a middle of the lineup RH power hitter. And guess what? they wouldn’t have the resources to make the trade for that middle of the lineup guy. So you’d likely still have the same flaw.

When you are trading away top 100 prospects, you need to be getting back quality to nearly All-Star caliber players back. Everyone craps on amaro but every time he trade away a top 100 prospects he got guys like Cliff Lee, Roy Holliday, Oswalt, And Hunter Pence. All those guys were proven every day players that were all stars (or close to all stars) at that time. Again, nobody is saying if there was a Juan Soto out there that the Phillies shouldn’t make that trade. Or they made a trade like the Yankees did to get them from the Padres. Issue is that player doesn’t exist at the trade deadline. Why both of those deals were made in the offseason. Both took place in December. The new extra wild card makes it really really hard to be that type of deal Done as 70% of the league is still in it

The two hitters out there worth giving up top prospects are Suarez and Duran. Suarez is 33 and a free agent at the end of the year. So if you trade Aidan miller then don’t win then he walks in FA was it worth it? No. Duran makes more sense as he still young and controllable. Why it would take Crawford, Abel and likely miller. Issue is he’s a lefty. They need RH power.

I wouldn't trade them for nothing. I understand the right veteran outfielder or bullpen arm to justify a top 50-100 prospect may not actually be available. I'm just saying that if they were to be available, I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. But I wouldn't go out of the way to dump the farm for a random veteran on a hot streak (or one who isn't even that). That's not what I'm advocating for. I just think we have far too high an opinion of the Phillies' prospects.

Re Santana: he's having a nice year, but he's been DFA'd 4 times by big market teams, most recently just 1 year ago. I just posted how I have little attachment to our prospects, but Santana better come cheap...
