Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

Featured Replies

Well the pieces are all positioned for tomorrow.

I think Phillies and Dbacks both win tomorrow with the Phillies taking an undeserved playoff spot.

Wheeler is going to give them a great game. And they’ll bridge Wheeler to Duran with Luzardo. So it won’t take much offense at all to win.

And then they’ll mercifully get put down quickly and quietly in Atlanta.

It is Sunday. That’s usually when the Phillies offense finally erupts for the week.

They really battled tonight, good job.

No way they play tomorrow, and if ARZ loses they luck out and don't have to pitch wheeler, they are in the drivers seat

Neither the dbags or phillies should be allowed in the playoffs or even be able to watch the playoffs, MLB is a joke, even the cubs should not be in

Starting Nola to begin the dumpster fire (while caring immensely), surviving for 2 innings, then throwing Alvarado out there to pour gas on the flames lmao

I'm not a Nola fan but he does have my respect even if it sucked. The rest couldn't give a crap.

The Dbacks are also not a very good baseball team. They got the benefit of playing the Rockies and Giants 26 times. Against every team that isn’t the Rockies and Giants, they are one game below .500. Which tells me they’re a mediocre to below avg baseball team unless they faced those two ass clown Organizations.

I’m not even mad at Nola. Like you said he didn’t even have to try. The reality is, I blame the Phillies for once again being an "analytical” organization, but didn’t look at the analytics of how much better nola has been with Stubbs as compared to Jt. So the last 2 times nola has pitched they’ve used Jt and he’s looked much worse. I don’t know maybe use the Fing analytics that tell you don’t Fing pitch him with realmulto

To be honest, I think we overrate the talent on this team. Most of the high end talent is on the pitching side. Wheeler, Sanchez, Luzardo, Duran, and heck, just because how well he has pitched recently, I'll put Nola in there as well. Offensively its really only Harper and Schwarber and they are depreciating assets at this point. Araez had been good before he got hurt but even he became infected with the Kevin Long disease. The rest of the lineup is just bad.

well maybe I'm living in the past because I always thought Turner, Stott, Bohm, and Marsh were all pretty good. Weren't they all on our WS team in 2022?

One more loss to go

One where they went ice cold after being up 2-1 and scoring a ton of runs in game three? Turner came the next year I think. They haven't changed since.

In 2022, the Phils backed into the playoffs on the heels of a losing stretch. Down 2-0 in St. Louis top of the 9th with one out, nobody on. Then they score 6 runs, go on a tear, and win the pennant.

This year's team is a streaky team. They can just as easily catch on fire and go on a run. Who knows? One thing we do know is that the Phils have made the post season every year since 2022, and that followed a long run of playoff droughts. I'm not giving up on this team yet.

Yea I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

I wanted them to sell off all their assets in the offseason and then again every month this season.

I have to assume this mess will put a punctuation mark on this generation of Phillies and they will pull the plug in the offseason. There is absolutely no move to make that can engender any optimism, goodwill, or participation from the fans heading into 2027, if there is a 2027 season. They'll have people showing up to the stadium just to boo (which is what they may be up against this weekend).

I assume we will try to extend Luis Arraez. I would do that before Dec 1 and the potential lockout related to the MLBPA collective bargaining agreement expiring.

We probably will not keep Bohm. We could if we wanted to do a one to two year deal.

We need to add right handed hitting. Outfield is our blind spot.

We need to trade for a young catcher that can hit and maybe take over.

Relief pitching is a mess.

What else?

Kick DD upstairs. Put young Mattingly in charge. Keep Mattingly around, but get Cora as manager.

But nothing will fix these broken bats signed to forever deals that can't hit good pitching.

Harper and Schwarber will provide a lot less next year than this year. It’s just a fact of their aging. They’ve lost their power bats.

Turner, ironically, probably can’t and won’t be much worse next year than this year.

JT will age from a shell of himself into a complete hole in the lineup.

Wheeler will either retire from this mess or likely will provide more middle rotation quality protection at his age. Think more of the productivity they got when everyone was panicked about him a month ago.

There’s no way that group climbs to a playoff contending record next year. There’s nothing they can add. Last couple years, they needed right handed bats and protection for Harper.

They need an entire new lineup now.

At least they aren’t locked into an aging catcher whose offense declines every year

Marsh went from starting an All Star game to being the worst hitter in MLB. In the same season.

so you’re telling me when they got arraez I suggested Turner, Arraez, Harper, Schwarber. Probably the most ideal lineup even though it wasn’t really ideal. But every pundit kept saying they don’t want 3 LH hitters in a row in middle of the lineup. Yet the last game of the season that’s exactly what they’re doing. I swear to God they’re Fing idiots.

I think we should extend Bohm. Give him a fat signing bonus. 2 years $22 mil.

This makes him a tradeable asset and insurance until Arraez is signed.
