The fact shugart has to be a high leverage reliever tells you everything about this roster

This team is a dumpster fire. Put us out of our misery already.

So we are due?

I never knew the 1883 squad was that bad

The nice thing about losing is that we don’t have to stay up to see if they clinch.

I already know what’s gonna happen. The Padres are gonna win tonight. Then they’re gonna lose two of three to the diamondbacks. The Phillies are gonna get swept. The Phillies gonna miss playoffs.

The Padres want to host I’m guessing. They have a lot of motivation to win.

Anyway…

That may be true. I think the Padres would rather have their starting rotation set up for that wildcard. That to me is way more important than the home-field advantage. Because if you have to go with your third and fourth starter for the first and second game you’re not gonna be in a very good shape. Especially against the cubs

Good then they will fire Dave Dombrowski

Frankly, he should be fired anyways because his roster for how much they’re paying shouldn’t be anywhere near this bad in multiple areas

If they make the playoffs they’ll extend Mattingly and give KLong a lifetime contract or until Bryce contract is up

Gross incompetence to have even brought him back this season

I see it another way. They are going to squeak in and then lose in two games. Probably scoring 8+ runs in the last game regular season game and then get blanked.

If they score 8 runs, it would be on par because it would be Sunday

If anyone still watches this team and think they can go anywhere you deserve the pain

Going to miss the playoffs cause padres will have a hangover game tonight and basically emptied the clip tonight to clinch a playoff spot. So Dbacks definitely winning tonight and we will lose with a BP game in the horizon Saturday. I’d bet we will be tied with the Dbacks heading into Sunday.

I put $20 on the dbacks

Padres could rest for 3 days, let the Dbags win all 3 and eliminate the Phillies. If I were SD, that is what I would do.

This assumes the Phillies do not beat Rays 2 out of 3.

Phillies swept the Padres this year.

I said in the offseason that I genuinely thought the Phillies would miss the playoffs this year. The sentiment was right, but the exact prediction wasn’t. The team is in an irreversible decline. They have talent, but that talent is aging and declining. Their young talent just isn’t very good and the pipeline is barren. It is what it is.

That said…they are 2 games up with 3 to go. Their opponent has nothing to play for and the Dbacks opponent has something to play for.

Either tonight or tomorrow, the Phillies are going to beat the Rays 12-2 and will convince themselves they have gotten right heading into the playoffs.

What’s funny is the Phillies in the AL would’ve already wrapped up a WC spot. in the NL they haven’t. Add insult to injury the Dbacks are 10 games over .500. It’s cause they were 12 over .500 vs Rockies and giants and got to play them 26 times (2 worst teams in the NL). Meanwhile against everyone else they were 2 games under. Dbacks are also a bad baseball team. the Phillies have been awful in September and frankly their bullpen and lineup has sucked all year outside of a couple of weeks

The Diamondbacks have won 5 in a row, though, and are getting hot when it's needed

They won 5 in a row because they played the Rockies for 3. That’s fortuitous scheduling. prior to that 5 game win streak, they had lost 6 of 8. we can say they’re hot, but I would argue they just got fortunate to play the Rockies for the 11, 12 and 13th time at the very right time and now the padres for a hangover game and likely setting up their rotation for the WC round. Now the Phillies have fortuitous scheduling as the rays have nothing to play for (brewers needed to win until they clinched HFA which happened last night)

Rockies are bad anyways but just a point to how bad the Rockies are right now in September, they have lost 15 of their last 17 games. Let me also point this out in the last month and a half since August 16, the Rockies have won 8 games out of 36.

there’s only two teams in the National League that are not gonna get to 70 or more wins. They both preside in the National League West. Doesn’t mean the Phillies are off the hook. they should’ve beaten teams along the stretch that they didn’t and choking.

Fair enough, but winning 5 in a row and feeling like things are going your way right when you need it will only help them

This team has zero sense of urgency. They think they're entitled to just walk into a playoff spot. They somehow came within 2 or 3 games of the Braves for the division lead (feels like forever ago) and have tanked hard ever since. Its mind blowing how up and down they are and its every year. I hope they get absolutely smoked in the playoffs and booed relentlessly at all the home games and just maybe then Middleton will finally wake up and fire DD and make some serious changes. I won't hold out hope though because Middleton is in some kind of lobotomized haze from whatever BS DD keeps feeding him. In the words of Kruk this year "if they don't care, why should we?" referring to these bum players.
