Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

Yeah generally when you are playing a HoF QB while you have the best o line in football, running the ball to grind the tempo of the game way down to keep said QB off the field is a good strategy. This doofus hasn't figured that out yet.

Did you expect the Chiefs to somehow have less than 4 possessions in the second half? Come on, this is dumb.

Yeah that but that was a very sixers-esque way to blow a series.

I look at Thompson and Sirianni the same way. Both in over their heads and they get away with it most of the time because of the insane level of talent on their rosters. When it comes down to coaching/managing in the playoffs they lose. This isn't 100% on Thompson but a lot of it is. Our lineup has never made any sense. Its why we hit so many solo homeruns and leave RISP so GD always. His mismanagement of the bull pen is well documented. I'll never forgive him for leaving Rojas in with the bases loaded when we've been struggling to score runs most of the time since game 2.

I'm not exactly sure why you lump Sirianni in there. What exactly has he done in the playoffs that shows he's in way over his head?

Had Pederson been coaching the team last year we would be celebrating our Second Super Bowl win. He can't manage the clock, and has no feel for the game in tight moments against good coaches. His offense lacks any imagination. It's a glorified high school offense that works because of how athletic the QB is. One only had to look at how the team looked with Minchew as the starter to see that.

Oh, it had nothing to do with the fact that Mahomes only had one incompletion in the second half? This is the first time I've ever heard someone say we'd have won the SB last year if Nick wasn't the coach. The team scored 35 points with that high school offense.

Abandoning the running game was dumb. He still does it. It’s why we lost to the jets.

No. We agree there.

No you're right. He sucks and is holding this team back.

The funny thing about the "If Doug Pederson was coaching we'd have won that SB' argument is that the only thing that saved us from choking that game away was a huge defensive play that we couldn't make even once in the second half of last year's SB

Who would have thought this time last week that a few days later the season would be over

ridiculous. I'm still in shock

Presser at 4pm

Will go down as another great Philly meltdown. You had to win 1 game of 2 in your house after a disaster of game 4 and they couldn't do it.  That is the fault of every last one of them! I took my lights down yesterday and worked off some of my frustration washing some windows.

Second day in a row where I wake up and immediately say Fing Phillies

This team reminds me of the late seventies........ Bunch of stars that can perform and a manager that just couldn't help them get organized.......... They bring in Pete Rose and Dallas Green and what happened was an incredible experience.

Harper is staying at 1B. Lots more marketable facetime on TV broadcasts there than in the outfield and it saves his elbow. Hoskins is gone, but I think they will keep Nola. I hope they trade Castellanos, but for what? They need more pitching, but also need a major-league hitter in CF rather than Rojas. If you put Marsh in CF and trade Casty, now you need both corner OF through free agency? Obviously Mitch Williams, I mean Craig Kimbrel, is gone.

Not going to trade castellanos then let hoskins also walk. One of those two are going to be here next year. Frankly it’s more up to harper whether he wants to stay at first or move back to the outfield. Knowing how harper is, whatever helps the team win a title is what he’ll do. If they deal castellanos (what I’d do cause get value out of him before he really declined and after the season he had that contract is nice for another team) you can have harper platoon with Rhys at 1b, and days he doesn’t play 1st, harper plays outfield. I also wouldn’t entirely rule out if the Phillies try to get schwarber to learn first base as well. Then it gives you more options where Rhys, harper and schwarber can all play 1b. allows for DH to be Rhys or schwarber. Before laughing at schwarber playing 1b, he came up as a catcher so he’s had to switch positions before. First base is likely the only position he could play outside of LF which he is not very good at.

No to Nola…

Free agency class consists of nola, snell (31), Montgomery (31) and yamamoto (26). Yamamoto would be nice but no clue what he is at the mlb level. He could be great he also could just be a bust.

Don't need a #2 starter.  #2 starter spots going forward will become bullpen games.

Gonna need a no. 1 cause wheeler is about to be 34. So you aren’t gonna have either at some point. So you better have someone stepping up into that role. Also no. 2 spots in the playoffs might do that. Over 162 games that not true. Not making it through 162 games going bullpen games 4 out of 5 days. Look at the World Series past 2 years. Phillies had nola and wheeler. Astros had velander, Valdez, McCullers and Javier. This year dbacks have Kelly and gallen. Rangers have Montgomery, evoladi and scherzer.

The Phillies didn’t use walker in the postseason, but the reason why he got the money he did was because during the regular season you have innings you have to eat up. He pitched 172.2 innings. Now imagine for 162 games you are replacing 172.2 and Nola’s 193.2 innings. That’s 366 innings to make up. You aren’t going bullpen 4 out of 5 days and if you do by the time you get to the playoffs they are going to be shot. And that’s if you even make the playoffs. Unless you have a historic bullpen like the 2022 Astros there’s not enough arms in your system or that you are gonna be able to acquire to handle 4 out of 5 days  bullpen. Heck we didn’t do that this year and I could argue there’s guys in that bullpen that werent the same by the time we got to the playoffs.

Yeah I was only messing around but if you look at those stats I posted from reddit, I am spending money on anyone but Nola.  His arm is going to fall off within the first year or 2 max of that contract.

I wouldn’t pay nola. His last start is the reason. He had 3 great ones in a row. Then reverted back to his issues all year. Not entirely his fault they lost. Bats didn’t do crap either but the air was definitely let out of that stadium with his 2nd inning and felt like at that point it was done for that game.

I think they pay him. I’d rather go a different route but it’s a bad year to be in the market for a SP. only like 4 on the market. Montgomery worries me that he might get paid and not be the same either. Snell is gonna cash in. Might have to go trade route if nola walks
