October 26, 20232 yr I would prefer not to re-sign Nola because he has a lot of mileage on his arm and while he has been injury free, unfortunately he is due. With that being said, I wonder if he would take a 4/112 contract. It's a reasonable contract for the Phillies, not locked into a horrible long-term deal, and Nola gets a big raise from the 16 mil he was making this year. If him or his agent want something ridiculous like 6+ years, yeah, I thank him for his service to the organization and just move on. I also think DD will offer Nola the qualifying offer.

Frankly, if that’s what it took to get him signed I think he would’ve already been signed. I think with how the market looks right now some team is going to be dumb and give him six or more years. If he gets six or more years you tell him best of luck. I think those three playoff games somebody’s going to be like we really need a starter. Let’s go after him. maybe the Baltimore orioles I could see doing that who really need a front line starter

He already declined whatever our first offer was. I’m sure he wants 5-6 year deal. I’m ready to move on from him and hope one of the young guys is good enough to be a top of the rotation guy in a few years.
October 26, 20232 yr They've been talking on the WIP morning show that the Mets could offer Nola a huge deal. While they could, I just don't see Nola wanting to be under the NY media microscope. I mean, I guess if they blow him away with an offer but if he thinks Philly is tough, he would be in for a rude awakening.

October 26, 20232 yr Wouldn’t be shocked if Rojas is dealt due to having Crawford in the system and marsh. Would also allow harper to go back to OF with castellanos and marsh to bring back hoskins. Opens a possibility of harper also at first and they go out to acquire another OF bat. That said don’t see hoskins back however i rather have him than castellanos
October 26, 20232 yr Really think Rojas the more and more i read the comments from the presser might be an asset they use to trade and acquire a BP piece.

I actually looked up his stats from 2021 and 2022. Those are the two years he was an all-star. His WHIP and BB were actually lower in 2023. His Ks were higher than 2022. His SO9 were on par with 2021 and better than 2022. His era/ERs was higher by 7-9 runs in 2023. But his innings were nearly identical. Pretty amazing the only area where soto had worse stats wise then his previous two years was ER/ERA
October 26, 20232 yr Have a feeling if that’s the case that bryce might go back to OF. And allows for them to bring back Rhys to play first. Basically would have a lineup of schwarber Turner harper rhys castellanos sott bohm realmuto marsh

It seemed most of his appearances resulted in him missing the strike zone and walking people. Many times, he got out of his own jams, but it was frustrating as hell watching.

With Stott and Turner at the top, you have speed to wreak havoc on the basepaths and then you have the power guys coming up. Actually, I would have Schwarber hit 5th and Castellanos would drop to 6.

Stunning when you look that up.

Tbh i would do it too so you maximize Schwarber’s power with guys on. My ideal lineup probably would be this turner stott harper rhys schwarber bohm castellanos marsh realmuto the issue becomes the 3 out of 4 right handed bats at the bottom. Where in the playoffs you are definitely getting a righty out of the pen. could also try Turner (R) harper (L) rhys (R) schwarber (L) castellanos (R) stott (L) bohm (R) marsh (L) Realmuto (R)
October 27, 20232 yr Woodruff is out for 2024. But I’d be pretty content with Bieber (assuming he’s healthy), glassnow or burnes
October 27, 20232 yr some fans are saying alvarado should be the closer like what? the guy is streaky and in pressure situations he's been letting up runs, he's not the type to close i dont understand why the hesitancy to pay for a good closer? you need good closers to win the world series especially if the bats start struggling, it's mind boggling. it's just as bad as saying we dont need good receivers in the early 2000s with eagles like just stop with this ego stubbornness and just fix the problem.
October 27, 20232 yr Jayson stark made a great point. I said it during the regular season. Way too many guys swinging out of the zone. I’m the postseason castellanos chased the most pitches out of the zone, Rojas the second most and turned the 4th most. Why would you ever throw them pitches inside the zone knowing they’ll just chase bad pitches outside of the zone.

Players were way too aggressive and swung at everything no matter where the ball was. As long as it had movement the Phillies were swinging just hoping one would connect so it would somehow reach the seats. No patience at the plate, waiting for pitches that they liked or even scouted the pitcher they were facing. Just looked like they were up there hacking at everything blind hoping they got lucky. It was bad baseball

Hoskins is gone, but I think they will keep Nola. I hope they trade Castellanos, but for what? They need more pitching, but also need a major-league hitter in CF rather than Rojas. If you put Marsh in CF and trade Casty, now you need both corner OF through free agency? Obviously Mitch Williams, I mean Craig Kimbrel, is gone. Please no more Rojas. I just can’t with that guy.

It was bad baseball Castellanos is the worst at it. He makes his mind up to swing before the pitch. Heck i pointed out during his bad july he would get some pitches in the zone and he’d just whiff on him. He gets into these cold spells where he just can’t hit in the zone or out of the zone. And usually he doesn’t really battle at the plate. It’s usually 3-4 pitch at bats. Turner had this problem for a while too but he would actually connect with pitches when they were in the zone. One of the reasons why I say I’d rather have Rhys Hoskins then Castellanos, because I know Rhys Hoskins even when he’s in a slump is going to have a smart at bat. By that I mean, he’s going to make the pitcher work. Last year he had the second most pitches faced per at bat in the national league. Even when he was struggling to hit the baseball, he would make the other teams pitchers work, and he would sometimes draw a walk. He might get real cold, but he was always smart with his approach. it might not have helped him in the at bat but it wore on the pitcher, and the guy behind him might get a mistake because of how mentally exhausting it was just to get rhys out. That doesn’t happen with Castellanos. He’s such an easy out in his slumps and the next batter is less likely to get a mistake because he’s not battling. He has a bad approach at the plate. With the production he had this year and the three years he has left, I would try to maximize on this past season.

Want him to work on his swing in the minors. That said i don’t think it’s out of the question that he’s a trade candidate. They have Crawford and de La Cruz. Both are better projected hitters. They might not be as rangy as Rojas but they are overall better prospects. So i wouldn’t be shocked if they deal him to get a bullpen piece or maybe in a trade if nola leaves to get a SP
