The only way I would consider Trout would be for Anaheim to eat half his contract and even then, I'd still have major reservations.

Yup. His contract is what makes that trade not doable and I’m doubting the angels want to eat any part of it unless you are willing to give up even better prospects. He has 7 years left. If it was 4 years left I’d say do it cause you’d likely get at least 3 prime year. Even if you got only 2 high level years, it’s only 2 left of the contract. However he has 7 years left. Theres a high chance last 4 years of that contract there’s likely decline. there’s a risk he doesn’t stay healthy cause the last 3 years he hasn’t and the last 5 years where there’s been 162 games he’s been injured in 4 of the 5.

We’ll get the arm and the bat when the Ohtani deal goes down.

wow shocking!!

Pretty cool photo. This is the location of the current Citizens Bank Park in 1926. All pig farms down in that area then.

Part of the offseason i wanted to do that i listed above. If they get Montgomery and gray that’s 2 good pitching additions.

If that’s the case they should go get another corner outfielder like bellinger (highly doubt they get him) or a one year stop gap til they go after soto

Thanks, Rhys

Nah, the need isnt in the outfield...... they need a frontline sp and a true closer. Plus you need to find the C of the very soon future..... Marchan keeps getting injured.

There’s one good closer on the market. It’s hader. I’d bet a lot of money they aren’t going to spend the money and years it costs to get him here. You’d need to trade for one and I’m guessing they aren’t willing to do that with Alvarado, dominguez, soto, Hoffman and Orion back next year. Also have McGarry might become a back end of the bullpen guy. has been talks about it. I have a feeling his best role might be a late inning guy

here’s your FA closers list

Wheeler

Snell /Nola/Gray /Trade

Suarez

Walker

Abel /McGarry /Sanchez

Hader

Alvarado

Dominguez

Soto

Hoffman

Veteran Free Agent

Kerkering

Long man/6th starter (Sanchez)

"he ranked in the bottom 2% of the league in chase percentage, the bottom 5% in whiff percentage and the bottom 12% in walk rate. He finished the NLCS hitless in his final 23 at-bats, striking out 11 times while chasing more than 50% of pitches out of the zone.”

I mentioned they should do this. His slashes from July onward were not very good and his chase rate was really not good. However has value with just 3 years left on the deal to a team that wants some leadership and just a complimentary hitter. Frankly if this is true then you definitely need another corner outfielder via trade or FA or like the article says Dombrowski might pivot back to Rhys and move harper back out to RF. That makes the most sense as hoskins approach is vastly different. He sees a ton of pitches (2nd most in NL IN 2022) and he takes a lot of walks. Even when he struggles he gives you professional at bats. Whereas castellanos when he struggles just swings and hacks at everything

I'd rather have Rhys than Castellanos.

The problem with bringing Rhys back, trading NC, and putting Harper back in RF is that now, you are worse defensively at 1st. I love Rhys but he's a butcher in the field. Bryce, in his limited time to learn the position, was worlds better defensively.

I know castellanos had no errors in RF but i read he was a -10 run differential. Which means he can’t make errors on some balls he can’t get too due to being a mediocre fielder. I actually think harper is a better OF then castellanos.

rather be worse at 1b defense but have a guy who’s a better approach and frankly overall hitter (if rhys got rbi opportunities castellanos has batting 3-7 i think his rbi numbers jump as compared to 2nd) than Castellanos.

i put this on the blog, you could realistically bring back Rhys on a 1 year deal (boras wants so he can hit the market in 2025 healthy and cash in), have harper on RF then sign jd Martinez to a 1 year contract to play LF (not great fielder but still better than schwarber) and a really good hitter. It makes your lineup really dangerous. Then in 2025 can move on from Martinez and Rhys and sign soto and move harper to first.

Maybe they saw the World Series TV ratings...

Castellanos' problem was Range.

He caught the balls that were hit to him, but his biggest issue was getting to balls.

Having Rojas in CF definitely helped him out, but there were quite a few balls that went for doubles and triples that someone with better range would have made a play on.

It's nowhere near as bad as Schwarber, but it's still not ideal.

Here's how he compared to the top Free Agents:

Here's how Castellanos compares to some names who are considered to be on the trading block:

Yeah it’s not ideal fielding and the replacements aren’t great. It’s why i almost rather just move harper back to RF and have Rhys’ bat back even if first base defense is less than ideal. I can live with Rhys’ issues more than castellanos’. I’m doubting they move castellanos and get bellinger. i would try to trade or sign someone on a one year deal or one year left. So in 2025 i can go all In on soto. Also schwarber only has 1 year left after 2024. There’s a chance with Crawford, Rojas, de La Cruz and marsh in the system.

That’s likely your long term out field and move soto to DH and harper at 1b. At that point really catcher becomes the massive hole.

If they got nola 5 years 160 mil and then got sonny gray for 2-3 years and off load walker that’s a pretty decent plan. There’s a ton of ties to sonny gray and the Phillies so it might be in addition to nola or a big name pitcher (wouldn’t be shocked if Montgomery and gray)
