I’d bet the make the playoffs next year just cause wheeler, Sanchez, Nola and Ranger are good enough and the extra playoff spot. Really the 2026 season is where i think you’d see them miss. Chance wheeler begins to decline by then. Ditto with Nola. Would have to hope painter steps up. Schwarber likely gone. Castellanos in the last year of his deal. Harper in his mid 30s. I feel like that’s the cliff where they miss the playoffs and you are in for like 4-5 years of just mediocrity or bad baseball
October 10, 20242 yr At least our pain and suffering is now over until 2025 with this crap team. Now I can switch to the Eagles for additional pain and suffering for the remainder of 2024.

October 10, 20242 yr It’s not that they lost, it’s that they never even showed up for the series. They are lucky they didn’t get swept. Completely non competitive.

October 10, 20242 yr Why would Soto want to come here? Other teams will offer him a lot of money too and we are the biggest choke artists in the league now.

The problem is if you trade bohm, you have to go get a third base until Miller’s ready. If you trade stott, you have the same problem at second base until Miller is ready. if you’re not gonna extend either one of them long-term then you should probably trade them and get the value. And you probably should sign Alex Bregman to play third base if you’re gonna go that route. I don’t think they’re gonna go that route. I think one of those two is going to be here long-term. If I had to guess I kind of think it’s gonna be Stott. I think they believe Bryson could still be their Jean Segura . I think Alex is the guy that’s gonna fall out of favor and they’re gonna try to trade him to get a better outfield. i think overpaying is what has hurt us because we have to rely so much on youth/trash heap type of players to get us over the hump and it hasnt especially when our overpaid guys havent done anything. i would rather have short term cheap good players all over the roster than having overpaying stars with trash depth players.
October 10, 20242 yr Turner has been a massive disappointment - he was supposed to be the difference maker and all he's done is suck huge donkey balls when it matters the most.

I’m not going to disagree that Turner wasn’t good in this series. He’s making $300 mil and needs to be better. He was bad in game 1 and 4. He needs to be more like game 2 to live up to the expectations the team had when they signed him. (When you go look deeper into his numbers and analytics, when Turner is in the lead off spot, he doesn’t try to hit as many home runs and gets on base more. He’s played over 100 games more in the leadoff spot than the 2 hole and he has less home runs. He has more walks. And he has a higher average. And a higher on base percentage. when he’s in the lead off spot, his mentality is, I’m going to get on base so other guys can get me home. His speed can also cause chaos and pitchers might get fluster and give guys behind him a mistake pitch. I said this for a while, you can win with Kyle Schwarber in the leadoff spot but ideally with his power you want him in the middle of the lineup as Harper and Turner have good OBP numbers. I don’t think you’d see a dramatic drop in his HR production moving schwarber down to 2-4. He is who he is) That said the Phillies had guys who were actually worse. people won’t admit it but schwarber was awful after his leadoff homer in game 1. He basically pulled a 2023 nlcs Castellanos. After that homer he went 1-15 with 6 Ks. I am over the schwarber needs to be leadoff to have success. they would’ve been bad under Girardi if he hit leadoff or not. Imo they need his power in the middle of his lineup. I would move him down in the lineup. This lineup has taken you as far as you can go and it’s regressing. bohm was absolutely miserable as a hitter and fielding. If it wasn’t for realmuto and marsh he might have been their worst player in this series. He also needs to grow the F up realmuto is making 23 mil and just went 0-11 for the series. Arguably he was the worst hitter on the team vs. the Mets. He had numerous chances with RISP to help build momentum and killed it. marsh continues to show why you don’t trade highly coveted prospects for guys you have to fix. It’s been 2.5 years he’s the same reasons the angels dealt him. You can’t play him every day cause he can’t hit left-handed pitching. He strikes out way too much. so when he has a slump like he did for like 2.5 months then in the playoffs he’s pretty much useless. It’s why I don’t want to have a platoon in the outfield. Having to rely on two guys to get 1 job done is a recipe to blowup in your face. it’s been 2 1/2 years of work with him and he still the same player. He’s just not that good and they’ll keep trying like with Walker to prove he’s something he’s not. not going into the BP everyone was a disaster. But i will go into nola. Christopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez (who clearly is not healthy or arm is just not there at this point in the year) gave you better performances than Nola. He’s making 172 million and his last two starts when the Phillies needed him the most in the playoffs he’s not lived up to what the Phillies think he is. You can say well he was good through five innings yeah but he went out there for the 6th because he supposed to be "an ace” or make up our big 1-2. He’s not even been a no. 2. he didn’t even get through 6 innings the last two starts. He left the game with the bases loaded. he’s fortunate it only 2 runs scored considering it was no outs and bases loaded when Kerkering came in. When your ERA is 7.71, opponents are hitting 290 and OPS is 1.041 in your last two games which were massive starts for the Phillies that’s not good enough. Could’ve signed guys for lesser deals and got that production

October 10, 20242 yr Not to get hopes up, but I've heard Soto to the Phillies has been a "done deal" for two years. Not literal done deal, but Soto has always wanted to play for the Phillies, he loves Harper and Turner, and adores hitting coach Kevin Long, and likes the atmosphere at CBP. And Harper who has a lot of say wants Soto badly. And Middleton wants him. Let's see if it happens. The Phillies are willing to outbid biggest market teams as we saw with Yamamoto where they has the highest bid of anyone. They even outbid the Mets. They will go high for Soto.
October 10, 20242 yr 10 minutes ago, paco said: But besides all that, how did you feel about the series? I’ve said this before they lost in the NLDS because of the arrogance that they showed at the end of the NLCS last year. They made it sound like the diamondbacks beating them was a fluke, and that they would just fix the problem. That the blueprint that the diamondbacks gave everybody was false. They didn’t do that. The fact of the matter rest of the playoff teams around you got better and some of the other teams in the National League got better. Where did the Phillies get better? They didn’t. Adding estevez was about the only improvement they made to the roster from last year. They knew they had an offensive problem. You let over the course of two years Jean Segura and Hoskins go. We can say they have flaws and they’re not as good of players today as they were during that 2022 season. Hoskins and Jean Segura saw a lot of pitches and made pitcher work. You don’t have enough grinders in the lineup since both of them have left. You have a lot of guys that like to just swing everything and overly aggressive. You need guys like Hoskins, who are going to take a lot of pitches so you can get starters out of the game earlier. To me the Mets bullpen is not that good. It’s showed in the brewer series, that first game against the Braves in the DH and even when the Phillies showed their BP was beatable as they’d get guys on and did most of their damage in this series against their BP. The issue is the Phillies couldn’t get the Mets starters out earlier because they don’t take pitches. There were innings where Mets starters threw 5-7 pitches. You cannot do that in the playoffs. Because you did that in two innings, you allowed the starters to go an extra two innings and not get to the Mets bullpen. Not only that cause they allowed manaea to go 7+ in game 3 it allowed the major Mets BP arms to get two days rest
October 10, 20242 yr I remember being incredulous all winter when they did absolutely nothing to improve the team. I didn't even think it needed to be mandated that they needed to add another superstar, but they literally didn't add a position player until a washed up Merrifield right before the season. It was insane. Not a single player added. And that arrogance carried into the season where they'd routinely just piss games away. Down 2 runs with 2 on base in the bottom of the 8th, but they let Stubbs hit instead of pinch hitting Realmuto because it's his off day. Being down 3 runs in the 6th inning with plenty of time to come back and they bring in Marte who couldn't get an out before giving up 3 runs every outing. Next thing you know they're down 6 and the game is truly over. They treated the entire season like they were the 27 Yankees and they could do whatever they wanted and they were destined to go to the World Series. How many white flag games did they have this season, like 15? It was a joke. It honestly made me start to resent them during the season. They didn't accomplish nearly enough to develop this level of arrogance as an organization. They missed the playoffs for a decade and made the playoffs two straight years to that point. Who the hell do they think they are? Hopefully they were humbled.
