Sending him to the minors was unlikely going to work because the Phillies minor league coaching sucks. They ruined Jean Cabrera and he was likely a solid back of the rotation guy prior to this year.

His final stat line 2.2 IP, 7 ERs, 8 hits and 4 walks

He needed to get sent to high A ball and just have a total do over. He was garbage in Triple AAA last year, garbage with the big club this year, so why do they think sending him back to Triple AAA will help him? I've said it before but if Roy Halladay can go all the way down to Single A and rebuild himself, then Painter can do the same. If the Phillies think they can get something more from him this year, then they are more foolish than I already thought they were.

Frankly, they need to revamp their entire coaching staff in the minors. go look at their pitching numbers in AA and AAA it is not good. Like horrible outside of wood and career minor league guys. So sending him to those two spots was never gonna do anything cause he’s not gonna get good enough coaching to build them back up. Really at the end of this year, they just need a scrap all their pitching coaches in the minors and just revamp the entire thing.
