It will be all about solid state batteries to reach that range.  Tech is getting there.

Although I'm not sure why the average joe JT was worried about would need a 500 mile range.

Out of curiosity, what range would you be looking for?

ok, now to deal with the stupid again

Elaborate

Except.... 2 of the 5 had range that competes with the more expensive models.

Again, zero thought put into your statement.

Whenever we debate, this is usually the case.

Admitting ignorance is the first step.  Second step is to do something about it.

Just a fyi, this is a rapidly evolving market and many new models (and companies) have come about in the past year.

Again, 2 of the 5 affordable models I quoted have ~250 mile range.  So further proof you put zero thought into this discussion.

Except, you statement wasn't about your opinion.  It was that they don't make EV's that are affordable for the average joe.  You keep inserting your opinion to try to deflect.

How to fix that?

At this time I don't like EVs and will trash them as I see fit. You like them, you should buy a couple. Maybe even three and have an extra.

If you are short on cash and need a commuter car, buy a Corolla hybrid for 24Gish. 50 plus miles a gallon, 4 doors and you don't need an electrician to install a charger.

Also the poors typically rent or don't have a garage (I was thinking that earlier but forgot to include it).

More emotional word vomit.

Can the average joe afford an EV.  Yes or no?

I am probably better at traditional cooking than you as well. Also, I have a pretty good singing voice.

It's not a yes or no question. Just get a Corolla. The novelty you are infatuated with will wear off if you buy a cheap EV.

I'm not a terrible cook but I'm not going to claim to be great either.  I have a thread here you may enjoy tho.

I absolutely cannot sing.  I'm 100% left brained to, so throw out the window anything artistic.

60 percent of the poors rent. Investing in a charger for a home you don't own seems like a poor decision. I'm sure there are some cases where it would be fine though.

Townhouses and condos with no garages would be a bit dicey as well. For low to average income families I mean. Those types of dwellings typically do not have garages.

You don't need a dedicated charger.  You can trickle charge with a standard outlet.  In fact, back at our old townhouse the lesbian couple that rented next door did exactly that with their Chevy bolt.

Have you  lived in a poors neighborhood. I have. Wouldn't work. Doesn't work. Can't work. You would have to have a garage.

Literally gave you an example of it working

So now it went for the average person to an, I assume, inner city example. So many counterpoints you could have made and you went with that

A model 3 takes a very long time to charge on a trickle charger. It's not viable. I assume the cars with less range take less time but still, dicey. Lots of low income family's have one car.

Inner city? Lmao. You are so out of touch. Explains a lot.

I say that in a good way though. It's good you don't get it. Good for you.

4 days for a trickle charge. But that’s assuming  the battery is completely drained and you didn’t hit a charger on the road anywhere.  Hard to imagine both of those variables occurring. If you don’t have a charger at home you’ll spend 10 minutes at a charger on the road while getting a coffee. And why keep bringing up a model 3 when you can get something with that same range for 25k

as for inner city I had to go with that since you ignored my suburb example.  Why did my townhouse example not qualify when you LITERALLY brought up a townhouse.

I said I assume the lower range cars charge faster. I'm not looking up every model, I'm no longer in the market.

I lived in a townhouse. It was a rental. And it was ish. Lakewood NJ. My aunt owned a townhouse she just sold. It was beautiful. About 15 miles away from the above ish hole.

Get it? Or no? You just can't run an extension cord from your home to your car in a lot of places without an issue.

Except my next door neighbors apparently. It’s EXACTLY what they did.

That's great for you guys. Sounds like a nice neighborhood.

@paco the cooper takes 20 to 40 hours to charge.

Which should I look up next?

@pacovolt gets 4 miles per hour of charging. Doesn't seem feasible to me.

EMB, if you are driving more than 30 to 40 miles a day, you absolutely cannot charge your EV with a standard outlet. It's just not feasible guys. Use your heads and wait for the tech to catch up.

If you own a decent home and have extra funds, do the math and determine if the fuel savings makes sense considering the initial cost and also consider buying one. And if you really just want one and have the means, by all means you should also get one (this applies to you, @paco).

Addendum : if you want to make a meme about my cooking skills, do so. I'm awesome.

I have a beautiful singing voice.

Of course it doesn’t.  You are complete incapable of taking in other factors like, i dunno, using a parking spot with a charger at some point or stopping at charging station and grabbing a coffee.  (Yes, I realize this isn’t ideal but "the poors” literally do this today)

Mine is "pretty good" like I said earlier. I can win a karaoke so long as I can pick the songs and the talent pool is not too deep lol. Think a Peter Cetera (sp?),  but a bit more rough and edgy and not nearly as talented.

Poors often have two jobs, or work extra hours, and most certainly do not stop for coffee on the way home. Unless they want to stay poor. If work is a commute it doesn't work at all.

Say they live close to work. Before i moved i was about 10 miles from my job. My car got in the mid 30s for "city" gas millage. Why bother? I'd fill it every 2 weeks. Not worth the bother for a EV at that point, just get a small economy car.

Like I said, out of touch. Sounds nice.
