Americans had Trump/Biden back to back. What they know is things were good under Trump and bad under Biden. It’s that simple. Policy, circumstance, let alone nuance, doesn’t enter the equation. One good, one bad. Throw in that Harris was already one of the least popular candidates before she was VP and here we are.

Not sure another Republican wins bigger. Not that they shouldn’t, just that they wouldn’t. Name recognition matters, celebrity status matters. It shouldn’t but it does. I don’t see Romney or McCain or Jeb or whoever else in recent memory winning bigger at all. They’d be lumped into the same "status quo” class, unlike Trump, and without Trump’s name brand. The turnout wouldn’t be there.

Oh, I think the public is breathtakingly stupid. I wasn't saying the lack of policy was influencing votes, I was saying just the opposite - they voted for him despite him having no, or terrible policy (across the board tariffs and massive deficits will exacerbate inflation). 

I do think a more sane Republican, without all Trump's baggage, would win bigger. Haley, DeSantis, etc. I think would have crushed Harris. Not Reagan 1980/1984, but maybe GWHB in 1988 levels or Obama 2008. Places like VA could have flipped.

My wife's facebook feed is filled with people going full @Mike030270 and it's glorious. My gay cousin reposted a post that said "if you don't understand why your gay friend is scared tonight, you don't have a gay friend, you know a gay person." Then my hyper lib aunt and lib mother-in-law both told him they were praying for him.  

I very badly wish I was on facebook so I could ask him if he's received an address to his assigned gulag so I could visit him.

The difference is the Trump tariffs in the first term were targeted. His campaign promise was for 10% across the board tariffs. That's a massive difference and will be extremely inflationary. If he goes back to targeted tariffs on certain industries and countries, it still isn't great, but the overall impact is muted.

Something tells me the big promises turn in to something less. Isnt that usually how it works?

That's the hope, that he backs down. Unfortunately, the POTUS has broad latitude on tariffs and he has a GOP Congress.
