EMB Blog: 2023 Camps and Preseason - NO POLITICS

I don’t know how many have watched the swamp kings documentary on Netflix but i thought it was just Ok. It was hyped up like you were gonna get a bunch of stuff about the players on that team like Aaron Hernandez, the pouncey brothers, Riley cooper along with Tebow and urban. Mixing everything: the crap show going on off the field with the on the field performance. Instead you got basically very little about any of the players besides like 5 players but mainly tebow, siler, spikes, major and James. And very little details about the discretions of urban and players away from the field. Felt like it could’ve been an all time kind of documentary and it was just Ok.

Fred Johnson has been the hot new name among beats to make the 53. They all had similar phrasing too which makes it seem like it might be a legit source.

Apparently Sills wasn't on the second team oline yesterday. They had Johnson at LT and Steen at RG. So he might be the 8th guy if they only keep 8.

Not sure why some people can't give props to other teams players...

Tannehill was solid, especially in the years you mentioned...he was in the MVP race (if not leading it) at points during 2020

This.

No one is saying he was great over a long period like a Rodgers or Brady. He was good with times leaning towards great like Alex Smith or Eli without the finish.

I will never understand the need to say any QB who is not one of the 8 best or so of his generation has to be a pathetic loser.

In your face Daniel Jones

Pickett is going to be better because the Steelers are better and QBs going from year 1 to year 2 are generally better.

Feel free to eye roll at all the stories about how the muscle made the difference.

The same might be true with Daniel Jones but because the Giants passing game got better like adding Waller at TE and year 2 with Daboll. (and having anyone not named Golladay)

That's how I felt watching Our Universe on Netflix.  Watched the first two episodes last night; apparently it's been Emmy-nominated (has Morgan Freeman doing narration).  Was really hoping it would be excellent, and so far it's just been OK.

IMO it's geared toward a junior high or high school audience.  Was hoping for a more in-depth cosmological story, but so far it's drawing parallels from what is seen in the animal kingdom to its relevance in science.  It's been OK but less entertaining than I'd hoped for.

We very rarely lose PS WRs and we very rarely have trouble getting them to the PS. I actually think we can waive Garner and Ngata at the final cuts and get both players back on our PS.

They paid Ngata handsomely for a UDFA. I think they're keeping 6 wideouts, especially since Ngata would be the only backup with size to his game.

Quoting your own clone is the ultimately sign of intellectual failure

Henry is a great example of why "lead back” is a mistake.  When the team relies too heavily on a RB and that RB goes down, the offense suffers because the backups just aren’t good enough. RBs are wrong that the NFL doesn’t value the position.  They do, at the right price and durability factors into the price but so does a resistance to overvalue the position because of the toll the position takes on the body.  WRs and DBs aren’t getting hit every play.  DL and OL are having contact but not necessarily impact.  But LBs and RBs are getting impact at speed and that’s hard on durability.

The other risk factor that comes with the "lead back” approach is that it concentrates the injury risk on one human being.  The total amount of injury risk in a game isn’t a simple zero-sum aggregation of all the individual snaps taken by the group of RBs.  The same play can have different risk probabilities if the prior snap (s) were all taken by one person, or spread across multiple persons.  Risk management isn’t the only factor but it is an important factor … the most important ability is availability.

Just skip them both.

@ToastJenkins I am me and me alone. I don't have another account. That account does not share my writing style or phrasing or penchant for links and stats. There is no common IP address or anything like that. Stop lying about the clone thing. It makes you look like a clown.

Look up Occam's Razor. The idea that 2 different people called someone out on a really bad cold take is 1000 times more likely then someone maintaining 2 different accounts and using unique writing styles and word choices on both.

You can't win on the facts so you have to pretend about me while you pretend about NFL players.

Grow up.

@mattwill the get off my lawn schtick is boring. I hurt your little feelings at some point and you are holding a grudge. We get it.  Its pathetic, but we get it.

Your best bet is to just put everyone who ever disagrees with you on ignore.

Me, I will disagree with someone in one thread and like their post in another because we are just talking about football. This is not fight club.

Interesting under the radar comment about yesterday’s join practice from Fran Duffy.

Devon Allen wins on a really crafty slant route, clubbing cornerback Kevin Tolliver aside and working in for a wide-open catch. We didn't see that kind of nuance from Allen last year. The second-year receiver came back a couple of minutes later with a great stutter-go move for a touchdown over the top. Allen stood out as a gunner in special teams drills today as well.

Zach Berman and Bo Wulf also mentioned Allen

Devon Allen also showed off his speed for one of the first times this camp as a receiver when his stutter-go left Kevin Toliver II in his wake for a long touchdown

You should check out PBS Spacetime on YouTube, very in depth, almost too in depth

He checks all the boxes for them. I'm also shocked you can't carry without a permit in Texas since they have open carry laws.

Really like Nguyen in The Athletic.  Excellent article on why not to get jacked by clips from 1x1s.  Points out what folks don’t see when we watch these and what most folks don’t know.  Excellent point on defensive backs using inside leverage in reps and how some things we see in these reps aren’t realistic in game scenarios.  For those with a subscription. https://theathletic.com/4791998/2023/08/23/nfl-training-camp-videos-drills-position-battles/?campaign=5888993&source=dailyemail

For those without, this from JJ Watt.

I've watched a few of their videos -- I agree, really interesting stuff.  Not sure if I felt smarter or dumber after viewing

Good to see their traditions carry on.

Has anyone seen or gotten the SI issue with Hurts on newsstands?

I’ve been trying to find a copy for my son, having no luck.

I think Ngata makes the 53.

Two classic clips in one.  First one being most relevant to guns in Texas

I know we have a way too early 53 man predictions thread. Should we start a new one or just use that one and have people put up their 53 lists?

This would be helpful to me because I don't know much about the 6th through 8th DTs, or the 9th and 10th OLs, or the corner depth outside of the top 4 (Jobe being 4).

I'm probably confident about the first 45 or so but I have no idea on the rock paper scissors of keeping DT 7 vs OL 10 for example.

I don't think it's out until September. Could be wrong though.
