You try and label him one read and run….but when he tries to go through progressions ….you diss him for holding the ball. One thing you never seem to do is blame the actual guy that completely screwed up. SO -8 is better than 0? Is this the new math?
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: Well if you see there was the underneath shirt route on the other side. To do exactly like you are stating. Gainwell was looking at staying in as a blocking assignment before he bailed out late. But the other side that underneath dump off….that was the trick the D played…if you notice. They faked certain pressure then switched it. So the Rusher…dropped back into coverage on that short dump off outlet. LMAO I could care less what "tricks" the D plays, the QB's job is to hit the open man PERIOD That's what we pay him to do not whine about defensive tricks. Gains was the outlet, the other side is NOT the outlet side, but we know you will fail to find fault with Hurts no matter what the play is. A short route to the weak side is NOT the outlet side for a right handed QB
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: Also like I said…the one LB rushing looped all the way around. At the moment of decision….he pretty much could be seen as covering Gainwell instead of the delayed long loop around Rush. Plus there was another defender actually had task of covering Gsinwell. Yes the S who was playing off spying Hurts running. He was 6-7 yards off when Gainwell got open, then closed in when Gainwell made his move to become the outlet. Those windows are not going to stay open for 5-6 seconds. The LB could have maybe prevented a gain, why I said 0 is better than -8, OR Gains could break that tackle and get some + yards. Either case is better than negative 8
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: AJ one on one…..he was clearly really expecting AJ to get open. He didn’t at all though. The other WRs didn’t either. Your whole argument is pretty much looking in hindsight at what happened all AFTER Hurts was dealing with a super athletic freak rusher in his face. Welcome to the NFL where opposing players will rush you. After 6 years this is all new to Hurts. OK I get it(no I don't) More JV excuses but we're used to them now
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: He should ALWAYS be ready to dump to the outlet, Can you understand these words here? ALWAYS means he should know where Gains will be BEFORE the ball is snapped-ALWAYS means ALWAYS
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: But look at how great a bead the Rams defenders seem to have on the whole situation from us. Like they exposed an ‘obvious tell.’ Because Hurts never burns them. pretty simple,he gets beat and doesn't learn so let's do it again(and again) Until Hurts beats them they will keep doing it because it WORKS. Yes excellent play call offering Hurts multiple ways to get the ball out, even an outlet. But none of that matters if Hurts has no clue where these guys are. As Joe said he just fails to see the field of play(field vision). And I will add to that that he needs to know where these guys are. They have run this numerous times in practice and other games It costs us many times. if he can stop these types of bonehead plays, he could be a top 5 QB. He should be able to hit Gains here blindfolded(seriously he should). These little outlets should be as automatic as handing the ball off. They rehearse this thousands of times in 6 years

Like they exposed an ‘obvious tell.’ The tell is Hurts panics way too fast and he doesn't burn them. So they keep doing it because it works. Well I'm not going to continue arguing this point, because it's fruitless until you know Hurts limitations and why they keep doing this same thing. I'm not trying to be a jerk nor do I hate Hurts. This is just a bad quality he can't shake. As I said, he could really improve his game if he makes them pay for this pass rush, but as long as he can't or won't those plays will continue to haunt him personally and us as a team. If there was no outlet, then I can't blame Hurts, but Moore provided that on THIS play.
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: Everything was covered in pass coverage by the Rams. Fantastic coverage at that. Great playcall by their DC Shula. Yep, a coverage sack as I stated earlier. Hurts didn't use the outlet provided and lost 8 yards
January 23, 20251 yr Author 2 hours ago, cunninghamtheman said: Everybody knew our plays last season. Something even the blind I would hope wouldn’t argue against. It’s really been looking lately like we are seeing it again. Packers and Rams really were on exactly our passing routes. Hurts is the trigger man for the O. But this isn’t all him…I’m telling you….Hurts Hater or not. There are only so many routes in a route tree. New ones don't come out every week. The idea is to execute the route even if the secondary knows the same routes(which they do). First Hurts should KNOW his knee is not 100%. At that point he should KNOW he may have to use the outlets faster since running may NOT be an option. Hurts should ALSO KNOW his WR1 is also limited and that whatever windows he COULD give him will be shorter in span. This is all reason to rely on the shorter game. During the game he should KNOW if Smitty is able to beat his man(or just ask him on the sideline). Since the defense ALSO KNOWS Hurts AND AJ are limited, would it not be beneficial to them to rush Hurts?. Its called exploiting a weakness, a dent in the armor and if Hurts doesn't beat them, they will keep doing it. There is no one more blind than someone with an agenda that fails to see the truth. We always discuss our team exploiting the other teams weakness yet fail to see we have some too. This game coming up will once again feature Hurts not 100%. IDK about AJ. let's see if anything was learned by Hurts on the ONE play you are harping on(because you know damn well the wuss watched this same play). A true NFL QB would learn from this and this is one he should have learned along ago, which is why I and maybe Joe keep griping(although I don't speak for Joe). Hurts should run drills where there is NO O line at all, but 5 guys rushing him in practice unblocked(redshirt him) and make/force him to get that ball out to Gains and complete the pass. Let the defenders count to 1- 1,000 then come. Hurts should hit that pass EVERY time. After 6 years it's quite sad that he would even need this drill, but whatever it takes...................I'm done with this

Surely he has run this identical play hundreds of times in practice, then suddenly forgets on gameday where his outlet is because he is being rushed? Welcome to the NFL. If this is as smart as he gets he will never be an MVP because he doesn't even possesss rookie level skills(see JD knowing where everyone on the field is) See unlike you and the barely fans I’m looking at the whole package on O. To me seems like the actual way to go about self scouting and identifying what’s good and bad. But first off….has our O run the play a bunch growing, developing , adapting and mastering it? Start right from there.
January 24, 20251 yr 1 hour ago, GreenbleedinNC said: SO -8 is better than 0? Is this the new math? I saw it as holding on to the ball and taking the sack was pretty much the best option for Hurts there. Believe the old Hurts, or any QB trying to make a play, would have been doing too much. Leading to complete disaster. -8 sack you say id bad compared to 0. I don’t see zero as much of any possibilities. Would have taken hero ball from Hurts to have gotten that ball sweat without disaster.
January 24, 20251 yr More likely was trying to make a play against Verse in that instance would have been a fumble…going backwards….resulting in a D fumble recovery run in for a TD against us.
January 24, 20251 yr You never even think to question about why this unbelievable pass blocking Oline has been making mistakes in protection. The Rams brought something….against our passing concepts our team wasn’t ready to handle. That’s how I see it. For several default blame Hurts. But I see it as the whole O…including coaching.
January 24, 20251 yr Why is it so many of these terrible plays are being called? I straight can even get into the root of these concepts just going flat flawed…especially if you put them in the situational football they are appearing. Now I just laid out where our critical third down conversion to AJ….was Hurts audibling. Meaning….got out of a bad play. Both long Saquan TDs….audibles. These three plays have been point blank confirmed to be audibled.
January 24, 20251 yr So in that context of good plays we know got changed from the playcall….so many bad playcalls have actually been stuck to. I guess it’s just me maybe then….but I see a much deeper rooted issue that’s going on here. Bad playcalls, bad play design concepts, bad playcalling situationally….this stuff is pretty routinely consistent here.
January 24, 20251 yr But I already know…but Ham look at the stats. Top ten O…how can there be all this occurring? I’d say…because anybody who thinks we’re peaking with our personnel lacks inspiration for the whole other level of greatness going unused.

But it does feel like you aren’t even bothering to consider all these factors in bringing up. Just clear your mind for one second….consider if it couldn’t actually be the whole O. Not excusing Hurts…or eliminating him from blame.

So very easily could have been what occurred here.
