Knowing you are cleaning up going to receive those comp picks…wouldn’t that make it much easier for you to pull the trigger on making a trade in the draft or for a vet?

That makes no no different then signing a player in FA then lol if your using a pick to get a player then you can just sign a player and use a pick…

Either way you lose a pick and have to spend money on said player both approaches are the same just at different times

Roseman and other general managers can take advantage of the rule by signing players who are released before their contract expires. Those players don’t count toward the formula.

A] Compensatory Free Agent (“CFA”) shall be defined as an Unrestricted Free Agent (“UFA”) who: (i) signed with a new Club during the prior free agency signing period […] prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the Monday following the NFL Draft for that League Year1 […]; and (ii) ranked within the top 35%2 of all League players […]. Clubs that lose to other Clubs a greater number of CFAs than they sign or acquire from other Clubs shall be eligible to receive a Compensatory Draft Selection in the College Draft to be held in the following League Year subject to the provisions set forth below.

Landry interests me because he can be signed for a few years deal. He's 28

If he doesn't affect the comp picks I sure would take a look. Good player on a crap team

Why would they post a whole article of false information?

I don’t see anything about designated different UFAs…other than being first wave(basically before the draft)

Landry would definitely cancel out a comp pick but again if he cancel a 4th rounder but we get a pro bowl player for 2-3 years is it worth it?

and we would still get 3 more comp picks for the other 3 FA that sign elsewhere…. It’s why it’s all a balancing act

Who is the guy that wrote the article? I’m seeing articles all over the place that make no sense to me. That’s clearly no defining barrier.

They are not UFA"s if they are under contract?

According to the article he would not so argue with them

That window isn’t open if you lose this year 😂…. Again repeat then 3 peat then 4 peat… don’t want to win one then wait another 2-4 years to win another

I’m just saying it’s a factor at play all the way around. You are essentially trading away that comp pick if you do decide to make that move.

You can’t sign them if they aren’t UFAs

IDK Landry and Baun together for a few years sounds good to me

The team officially released them even if they are still under contract

So your deal would take affect when their contract expires

And I’m not disagreeing with this. It’s all a balancing act is clearly the point. It begins with do we even retain our own guys? Because retaining a top FA will cost us that comp pick earned. Then you go to do you give up the trade off with comp pick to sign an outside FA?

Well,we'll see what happens soon

What feels undeniable is that we are set to big major players to earn compensatory picks from this offseason.

I’m not disputing the fact we are looking to add some comp picks I just don’t think we will pass on a good player in the first wave either… looking at both aspects I don’t want to just sign anyone but if we think they can help us win now fine

Yeah…if we don’t win it all again this year…still goning to be very important to win it all two years from now.

And it doesn’t help in 2025 we just chalking 2025 up as a no contest lol you are missing a whole season so you can gain picks in 2026 lol makes no sense….

Can add a player maybe two and still add 2-3 comps picks in 2026

Absolutely not chalking up 2025 as a no contest. How would that even happen? Just because don’t sign any outside first wave FAs isn’t going to have anybody around here not expecting to contend.

Landry 2-3 years for a 4th comp is worth it to me. But this article says he wouldn't affect that so whatever

He loves Vrabel. The Pats have tons of cap space. He feels like the easiest FA to predict his landing spot. Just my educated guess here….but also seen several elsewhere stating the same opinions.

He would love to play for a contender at this point in his career, Pats won't give him that
