TE has less value as long as we have Barkley doing the bulk of the offense

Disagree

A good blocking TE is even more valuable when Barkley is the bulk of the offense

Russell Wilson taking over for the giants…they signed him for one year

Good

I was concerned they were gonna get someone who wasn't washed up

Still…it is an upgrade. It gives them some transition games before ruining their next rookie QB as well

Well you have to admit the upgrade bar is set pretty low

Wilson will be running for his life behind that O line

Ahead of the pizza deliver boy DeVito? Yeah my far the lowest bar in the league.

Russell Wilson at his best was running backwards away from the rushers then making plays anyway. That’s his preferred style.

Which is a technique that actually has some real brilliance in it. Don’t think we’ve seen the end of that method at all in the NFL. Best way to negate these big money pass rushers. So what if they beat the Oline…if they can’t finish and catch the QB running backwards?

Heck just in 2023 having no scheme, no disguise what-so ever  in our plays by formation….even with a highly paid quality Oline…our O was completely doing this. Announcers almost every game even admit…I don’t know the exact playcall…but the Eagles will have Hurts escape the rush to buy extra time and make a big play. That was our scheme in 2023.

When he was younger he was really good at that. I remember him beating Trent Cole doing that in Philly.

He looks like he's lost a step though

Hurts, AJ and Smitty were so dang good at it too…was crazy. Just street ball go out there and make a big play O.

He lost a step…but more importantly he’s too scared to get dinged and mess up his commercial opportunities. He’s become so soft it’s ridiculous!

Like we agreed…still a big upgrade for the gmen

Some of the giants Oline failures can’t just have a blind eye turned toward the QB performance though

I mean look at the difference even dealing with subpar playcalling it made with Hurts taking control of the O last season. Very consistently we had several of the big plays occur from audibles.

Took a huge step last season with just having the whole O read the D together finally.

Right, so that value is not as a TE but as an additional line blocker as he is not in a receiving role, but playing with words again(sheesh) let's see which of the 1,000 TE's we brought in can block

LMFAO 🤣 Hurts didn't "take control" we DUMBED DOWN the offense so he could handle it. We've been through this BS 50 times now

However... this is key... it can't be a blocking TE that isn't a legit threat in the passing game.   Can't be 1000 guys.  It has to be a starting TE that is one that can block.

So let's rule out a type like my fellow alumni in Atlanta... Pitts.  But also rule out a Stohl.

Most TE's that are ranked got there because of their receiving stats,so they are legit threats as offensive weapons. The key is to find those blockers you cannot see on any highlight reel. You can only see that on Pro days, combine or bringing them in to your facility, most of which we don't see

But you are approaching this as a draft guy.... I'm not looking at their " ranks"   My thing is getting a legit starting NFL TE...one that has the ability to block.  Celek was a 5th round pick.  IDK where he was " ranked"

And I'm not married to the guy needing to be drafted, if there is a quality level starting TE already in the league... not necessarily a dynamic passing game threat, but just a quality starter to where he is a legit option in the passing game... on our team the best he could be is #3 option anyway.   Then we should be good.

As you said, the receiving part isn't as important on our team... but still can't be a complete dud in that aspect.  If there isn't a guy in the draft like a Goedert that can be decent at both... then find a unique skill set ...maybe use one as an H back move type... or the **** red zone target type.  YAC guy.   But I agree, we don't need a TE to stand out as a receiver.

And right... WE don't see it.... which h is fine with me... I'm not a scout and don't work for the team.   As long as the guys who get paid to evaluate this see everything, then we are fine.  Interviews matter too.

I can ONLY approach it as a draft guy because I'm not an insider. I'm not that good with defense, getting better I hope. I am good at TE's and WR's usually. Didn't research any WR's  since I don't see a major need. I'm sure we will snag one we think has potential as a value choice. I'm actually not afraid if we drafted 2 TE's. Since they seem so similar in talent maybe it would be wise to draft two new ones.Of those 2 1 can emerge, yet they would grow together as TE 1 and 2,so drafting 2 TE's would not really surprise me. Many in rounds 2-3 and if we grab more 3's on the trade of Goedert to the Chargers, then getting another TE in here would be a great idea. We have already had "overkill" bring guys in,we need to thin them out to 3/4 with 2 being young guys with a future here

An intriguing guy for me is the little RB Jaydon Blue. Could be a great ST return guy(see Covey lol) and a guy used on a few plays like we used Sproles and Gains. I know it's not a major need at RB,still this gives you options out of the playbook. I mean a 5th isn't alot to spend and we have 4 of those almost back to back(161,164,165,168) so whomever we have as targets in round 5 we will be sure to get(maybe another TE here also) and so the research for WR's should be round 4 and 5. just a kid who has potential but is very raw we can work on. OT/G DT/Edge,CB all should be in play. If we get a top value at LB we should hit that. I suspect some of those 5's go away using them to move elsewhere. It's going to be fun watching Howie move around
