We don’t know the whole story regarding that trade with the Raiders. It has been speculated that it was the Raiders general manager who contacted Howie knowing that Howie had an extra defensive tackles, and that Pete Carrroll did not like Jacori. In that scenario the Raiders would be trading a player that they didn’t value for a player they did value. if that’s the case then Howie did it right by listening and the trade was made.

Of course it’s always possible that he was the one who initiated the conversation

They needed DT depth, we had enough and as you saw 2 guys we have weren't stellar at all. They each need to show something pre 2, by then the Raiders CB could be ready to take their job

If they make it to the PS

Quite possible another team could pick them up if they're released

I'm sure either or both would be

Given how strong this year’s RB class was (last year’s too) I suspect almost all teams have their own MJ and/or Powell. Those players already know their team’s playbook, and as such would be preferable to a new PS RB coming in. Further, if a team claims a player on waivers, the claimed player must go on their 53-man roster. That is a big lift.

@cunninghamtheman what are your thoughts about the Eagles Offense last night?

The O sucked

(Hurts didn't play)

@cunninghamtheman the linked article below does a really good job of discussing a topic you and I discussed last week … whether because of Q Fangio will be using more Man coverage rather than Zone. It is a good read and it does explain how Fangio will accomplish (has accomplished) the best of both worlds, Man and Zone. It comes in the second half of the article where the writer, and Fangio, talk about the Quarters coverage scheme. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts once you read it.

@cunninghamtheman and @GreenbleedinNC A cut up of McKee’s passes plus the Tush Push is posted below. I went into it looking for some answers about Shipley, but found something I hadn’t expected. Specifically, there is a very interesting consistency in every one of the pass plays. It surprised me to be honest, but it may tell us a lot about how Patullo will be calling the Offensive plays.

Rather than spoiling it, I’ll look forward to hearing what you saw when you looked at it. We can jump in and continue the conversation then.

All I see is that any decent QB will kill you with a great O line. When the QB has confidence his O line will hold, you can run about any play effectively. We also saw some motion happening(not here). It's 3 AM and I'm not exactly at my peak either LOL

Interesting. I agree with you … and that was the second string line he was working behind.

What I saw was slightly different. My thinking in watching those highlights was that those plays were all passes, and they should give me a good opportunity to see what kind of pass protection Will Shipley provided for McKee. As we have discussed here, the biggest knock on Shipley has been his reliability as a pass protector.

Seeing how McKee, Cooper, Dotson, Wilson and Smith did in those plays was incidental … but I did expect it to be fun.

So what did I find out? In all those McKee pass completion plays, Shipley didn’t stay in the backfield to block even once. Every play on the snap of the ball he was instantly and aggressively in motion going out in a pass pattern, mostly to the flat, but occasionally over the middle. So I never once got to see Shipley block a defender.

The plays were also quick developing and the WRs were in all cases the primary target.

What does that tell us about Kevin Patullo as a play caller and a play designer?

Great observation. It's a bit nice that we can see different things. McKee is a BIG QB. His center of gravity is much higher than Hurts, so pulling off the tush push with a very tall QB was a thing of beauty, and all those plays showed me the trust and power of our O lined(even our BU's). If the O line is excellent it allows Patullo the freedom to call out more pass plays without fear of sacks. We are using motion brought to us by Moore and seems Patullo wants that engaged still. The O was humming along, the D needs more work. Chase made Ringo leave his jock at the reception point. Just totally outclassed(well Chase is a top WR but Ringo will face others). I wasn't really watching players,I was watching mechanics(how the gears mesh) The WR's shined, Shipley looked good as Gains replacement, but you are correct that there was no blocking. Avery Williams, although they raved about him,is on the chopping block as he was out performed. ASmith looked good,he needed to look good, this was a big game to show the FO he IS worthy of a spot. he was my boy coming in and has disappointed,so this was a nice game for him(Finally) Dotson looked solid,he sticks. If the outlying WR's have another nice game pre 2 there will be tough cuts. Wilson looked good, ASmith looked good, Copper looked good. Those could be WR's 4,5,6. I hope MJ can suit up for pre 2. He needs to show he should stay even if if's on the PS. Scandrick looked pretty good also. You guys know more about the defensive side than I do, but even I can see Ringo needs more work. Could be we take a CB first in the next draft if things don't pick up. Of course Q draws the top guys while Ringo would draw the 2,still he got beat very badly. Wondering if the new Raiders guys will get some looks in pre2. I believe he will spending this week learning the playbook and what Fangio expects of him. Nothing as cut and dry this year. We used to spot the cuts early, but this ia reall going to be some tough decisions coming

Hmm-IDK that it's incidental. What it showed me was those WR's were totally in tune with McKee. Will they be with Hurts who has a different style? As we saw, Hurts struggles when he doesn't have everyone in place. We got killed in TB last year because we had WR's out. This new "set" seems like they are better than what we had by quite a bit as BU's. That may be important later and it was nice for me to see. McKee with the 2's was just dynamite. With the 1's what could he do(OMG)

JMO that he is relying on a top O line and the RB doesn't need to be a blocker. But as you pointed out it's a skill Ship needs to learn if he wants RB1 when Bark hangs it up. I said before you never see highlight reels with any blocking skills. I wish the videographers(or scout vids) would show that. otherwise you have to watch every college game to know. They should also be forced to produce LOWlight vids. of course the scouts see those bad games, but once again no vid reels for us peon fans. I used to go crazy with mock drafts. Now I don't get upset anymore because I don't get the whole picture. And the Eagles are stellar at finding DITRS,so I don't panic about being wrong on mocks(aka as guessing). I have admitted the staff knows what they are doing although I DO try to find a player or 2 I hope we take(ASmith was one). I totally blew MJ. I had the kid from Michigan tapped, but IMO MJ is better even if it's not here. Only so many roster spots and the FO sure has their work cut out for them this year. Even so whomever they keep will be excellent. Very pleased with the talent on the O side. McCord gets another shot I hope in pre2. Robinson has the advantage of experience over McCord, but I believe McCord is a better QB and a better shot as QB 2 if next year we trade McKee, which will be a sad day for me since I love the kid. But he needs his chance to be a starter somewhere. I don't see us trading him this year. if we need a QB for the stretch run,we know he is more than capable. What say you about the QB situation?

Ship should be a fine replacement for Gainwell. I suppose Dillon is the 3,so now the battle is MJ/Powell. Haven't seen my boy in any action yet as to who makes the PS. So pre 2 will be interesting at RB

Both super upgraded RB room situation.

Already was #4, as was clearly shown in last night’s game. As Jalen Carter noted earlier in TC

I like the kid. So believe in him getting there. We’ll see how long it takes him. NFL big boys….no shame in it taking anybody a year or two to build up to contend with grown men professionals.

Our team looked impressive however. McKee was just a BEAST

How can a couple of teams not come making offers we can’t refuse on McKee? We need a good backup. So what’s the price where you give him up?

ST could be key. How would you compare these two on ST?

Some of the comments about Powell have been that he got his yards bouncing the run outside. Given he was running behind the third O-Line that isn’t the end of the World, but you want to see what he gets staying in the hole that is blocked.

Bottom-line, we have much better RB depth this year than last year.

Ham’s confidence in Shipley appears to be well placed. He could use some additional straight line speed, but his quickness to the hole is excellent and his decisiveness is great as well.

Dillon looked good also. Is this the best RB room our Eagles have ever put together?

Eventually he already is

I believe in his potential…..leave it at that.

May be why Howie got the Raiders guy in here. Someone told him(see Fangio) we needed a better BU CB. Another bad game and someone could be out on the street. I said in game that Ricls got beat like a stepchild and that the coverage was too soft. Getting beat by Chase isn't a one of,he makes many look bad,but lord Ricks looked like he was too outclassed to be in the NFL. Patullo looked more than competent at his job and had McKee lighting it up

Ricks is puzzling. Some moments he looks like he has got what it takes. Others he looks way in over his head. Started to lose confidence in him now though. Inconsistency just might define his game.

Let’s not go overboard on Patullo versus a bad D playing vanilla cupcake PS D. But…was a key game to get under his belt for the experience and to just do the whole job for the first time.

My boy McKee looked tremendous. My boy ASmith is not out of the conversation yet. My boy MJ remains to be seen. SO as my friend Meatloaf said "2 outta 3 ain't bad"

Ainias didn’t suck. Kind of shocking in a good way. Let’s see if he can put two games together. I had buried him…but might just have been premature. Be so happy for me to be wrong.

What is "going overboard" in your opinion? We had our 2's playing and they looked damn good?
