But still would have helped big time via the cap with a trade for Miles Garrett. It would have come 100% off the cap for 2027.

I was just asking, but I do agree. The way Howie runs this team trickles down to the sustained competitiveness. If my neighbor is having Trix, let's just say I won't be having Fruit Loops.

I'm not a guy that fears losing...I fear irrelevance. I'm a " four for four" guy. That's a Philly term for a fan of all 4 major sports. I was 7 /8 when all 4 teams made the finals. The Phillies won, the rest lost. The Sixers won 3 years later...then it took another 25 years for another championship...then another 9 for that first Eagles title.Ill be 54 later this year , 2 Phillies , 2 Eagles and 1 Sixers title. I was born but too young to remember the Flyers cups.So say 46-48 years of all 4 sports...that's like 200 seasons .. 5 titles. I don't take them for granted I don't feel like the championship is ever ours to lose, it's always an opportunity to go after it.With that said... when the teams are relevant, that's when it's fun. The unknown of if they are going to win is exciting. As opposed to going into a season knowing they are going to suck. Which has been the case plenty of times. I will include average in this group because we know while average isn't bad, that isn't good enough to really contend. How that relates to this defense. Young DTs...the first line of stopping the run. Love our young DTs...especially a few of them playing for their next contract.I like the depth at edge. Needed for consistency in the pass rush. I like that there is a new unknown there plus 2 young guys who should only get better. The unknown of how much better they can get...exciting.I like physical LBs. We have 2 of them and I want to see Trotter Jr.The CBs who engage in the coverage.. this has me excited the most. Woolen is playing for a contract and Fangio never gives praise, he is old school. They are talking him up big time...at the position that many people considered their biggest weakness the last few years...the 2nd CB on the outside.DeJean is supposed to have an expanded role.So I can't wait to see the defense...is excitement for the known...and the unknown. And in contrast ..the offense... my conclusion is that regardless of OC... the success depends on the running game until we change QBs... while I love the running game for team success...it's not exciting to watch. I like the entertainment value of the pass game with routes and QB decisions. Putting the ball in the RB's chest and making one read doesn't spark much excitement for me. I love Barkley but we already saw the 2000 yard season, not sure there is anything new he can do.Basically the offense to me...just win in a boring fashion...but the defense i can't wait to see make plays. That's the winning formula I see with this team...as the roster has been built since 2021.Joe, right on. Enjoyed reading this insight and your thoughts on this.I’m a year older at 55. BIG Dr. J fan as a kid! I was really excited (but too young to appreciate it) when the Sixers finally won it all. I lived through so many years of losing Eagles football. So when they finally won the Super Bowl in my late 40’s…..oh man, I went bizurko! It was such a memorable moment! You guys may understand, but most people thought/think I am a fool when it comes to my passion for the Eagles….living in Idaho…growing up in Idaho.I was so excited for Wentz as after that year he led them to enough wins to lock up home field advantage; I thought he would be a superstar QB for years and years. And yet he wasn’t. McNabb and Hurts are good and I’m super grateful Hurts helped the team win a Super Bowl. I just don’t get excited about his passing prowess. McNabb could NOT hit a crossing route in stride to save his life. Hurts wont even throw the ball in the middle of the field…and when he does, it looks late or slow or the wrong read half the time. Yes, I am over generalizing, but I hope readers here can get my point. I don’t mean to "bash” Hurts. Hurts is a slightly better than average QB…as long as he threatens a defense with his legs. If not, he is simply below average. I am NOT a QB whisperer. I have never played the position at any level beyond little kid football. But I did coach with some very intelligent former QBs and learned a LOT from them. Point being I am NOT an expert and don’t claim to be. Watching Hurts play, he NEEDS to use his legs to excel at his best. I like Hurts. Don’t want Cunningham to think I don’t. I would would prefer a Joe Burrow. Josh Allen. Justin Herbert….dare I say Patrick Mahomes. Reality sets in. There are only four of those guys and their teams are not letting them out the door. So we ride with Hurts. I just want him to use his legs so he can be the best he can be.

Hurts has no excuses left. Key for me will be if Wicks can show out so teams can't DT Smitty. Lemon is a real threat if used correctly. Hurts needs to move into the top 10 IMO. It's a tall order if the running game is working. I'm not going to whine about AJ. Wicks just needs to take this opportunity he didn't have in GB. We have hit page 3,000 even though I deleted alot of my early posts 🤣

"I think training camp is so important, practice is so important, but when you have a guy like that who prepares the way he does, who has the experience in the NFL the way he does, you know he's going to be ready to play when we start the season." July 29Jul 29 Wow, you can really see how the Eagles have gotten way ahead of the market here at the interior DL position. You look at Davis and Carter in comparison to the rest of the league. You see their younger ages. You see their lower cap hits. Carter is playing the next 6 years at $30.6 mil per. From age 25 to age 30! Compare that to Simmons who is playing the next 5 years at $32 mil from ages 29 to 33. Then you look at Davis compared to our former DT Milton Williams. Supposedly both at $26 mil per? Williams is playing the next 3 years with $89.5 mil cap hit at ages 27 to 29. Davis is playing the next 4 years at $46.5 mil cap hit, ages 26-29. Even with the void year bringing Davis up to $90 mil, that's 2030, Williams is there by 2028. You are seeing the Eagles pay today's price, but not until 2 years into the future. This is the advantage of doing contracts early. They either set the market with a new #, or they pay today's established #, but not until 2 years later.Carter, they set the market with a new # at $38 mil per. But it won't kick in until 2028. Now the next player who surpasses that will actually start before Carter, by the time 2028 rolls around guys will be over $40 mil. Davis, compare that to Williams. Williams got 4 years at $26 mil per, from 2025 to 2028. Davis was given the same amount on an extension, that doesn't start until 2027. 2 years after Williams. In both cases, our DTs are younger, the whole time they will be playing these deals until age 29 for Davis and 30 for Carter. That puts them in prime spot to extend a final deal or to release them, either way saving more cap. Getting ahead of the game. We should expect the same with the CBs next year. Probably DeJean first. https://overthecap.com/player/jordan-davis/10058https://overthecap.com/player/jalen-carter/10833https://overthecap.com/position/interior-defensive-linehttps://overthecap.com/player/milton-williams/9537https://overthecap.com/player/jeffery-simmons/7810

I'm not a fan of guys getting injured while training... training is supposed to get you ready to play, not prevent you from playing. One would think that could be avoided as compared to getting hurt in a practice or game.So he probably went too heavy, wasn't completely loose or something went wrong with the spot. Or they are just being cautious??? I'm sure they like any ability of using PUP to hold on to an extra player longer, keeping any trade window open longer as well.

July 29Jul 29 If we get Davis playing like he did last year and a healthy Carter not sure how you stop them it is a scary interior.Don’t think we have that stud edge rusher but great depth. Greenard is supposed to be really good and I truly think Hunt might be our best edge especially if he can take that next step.Nolan/Ebiketie/ Epenesa 3 pass rushers with experience
