Glad the team took Q with our first round pick. Best CB on the team that’s going to make a difference. Already been battling one v one against AJ and Smitty. DeJean still trying to figure out covering third stringers. He’ll get there. Just needs to figure out his role for Fangio. First thing everybody says about DeJean is he’s versatile. But what we need is a guy that can play a position very well. I’ll be disappointed if he’s just decent at multiple positions. I see things as Q, Ringo and him teaming up for years to come for us. LOCKING THINGS DOWN!!!!!

We could have used " decent " at a few positions last year.

That's good strategy.   But the comedy level of " I've always liked Gainwell " will never be topped.

I thought DeJean looked pretty good movement wise.. A Smith im not seeing it...but I also saw him catch everything... which was odd as I was expecting to see a quick twitch athlete that had issues catching the ball?

JMO DeJean looked a little out of place/1 step behind. That is to be expected in his first NFL contact,so no need to panic. I saw him at Iowa,I know what he can do

He has the twitch. I think he is behind on how fast NFL game speed is. I was hoping we would have extended offense plays yesterday, but we are on defense too much to really see what these O guys have. Hard to make your case on 2 snaps a game LOL. But he is the future and we have shown we an be patient. He seems worth keeping even if it's on the PS which would now be inevitable with the Dotson signing, but as you said would be better to toss Ross or Paris there and force teams to roster them

Yeah he’s just behind… missed all of TC

That’s why I made sure to make it clear I liked Gainwell…just not more than Scott…and especially not more than Swift.

Ainias has given rise to some doubts. But I’ve been trying to say all along he was going to need to be developed. Try to start off with getting him involved in the return game and YAC Creation plays first. If they can get him contributing in these areas much more likely they can dress him on gamedays and develop his game more in other areas. But so far hasn’t even looked like he’s ready to contribute in these two specific areas really.

Which DB....looked in place yesterday?  You can't really look at " in out or of place" when playing in a game where more than half of the guys probably won't set foot on an NFL field again?

The defense needs to be in sync... otherwise they all look like yesterday.  But who cares about that...the individual movement is what you look at in yesterday's type of game

What position do you believe he can play at a high level?

But do you really think yesterday's game had any impact?  Over the 1000 reps in camp?

DeJean can't do anything because he is "goofy". He also lost the weeks Q has had to practice. Yesterday was his FIRST football contact outside a few days to KIND OF work in camp. You are quick to judge a kid like this. Leave him ALONE. He is the "new kid in class"

Him being a goofy kid from Iowa doesn’t effect how well he can play football

Didn't see him look unpolished... more so just nothing special athletically

It was the only action I saw all preseason and i don't watch practice.

DeJean looked smooth in his movements... Smith to me I was expecting twitch... didn't see it.  Also didn't see a guy scared or having any trouble catching the ball.

Yeah it seems like he’s become more and more comfortable.  Catching balls now. Now we just need to seem him show that burst and playmaking ability. Remember he was hurt this offseason. So he’s been behind some.

Hip fluidity is the area I need to see DeJean look smooth with. If he can show this and be durable? sky is the limit. Can’t be a Slot CB without it.

I thought he looked pretty good yesterday... the only other time I saw him was video from that first OTA on the news...they did side by side DB drill where they flip the hips and run backwards before catching the ball... DeJean looked smoother than Mitchell ... but only in a drill.   Drills are real action... but you can see the movement.  I like both kids.

If he is recovering from something then it makes sense he doesn't look real quick yet.

Nolan Smith just isn’t looking great. Does he have any move beside needing around the outside? He hustles. Will chase down plays from behind. Give him that. But kind of seeing why the coaches weren’t playing him much his rookie season. Hear him in the postgame interview acting like he wasn’t played well and all…like he doesn’t even have a clue about how far away he actually is from where we need him to be.

Then hopefully he gets quicker and can get in some plays as the season goes along.   Be nice to sneak a few end arounds and screens to him to keep the D off balance

We have Dotson for that work. But yeah. That’s what I was thinking. If we could just get him working some of these create with the ball in his hands groups of plays…he could contribute. But Covey would be next after Dotson at this point for sure. The rook isn’t ready to dress on gamedays yet. I’d dress Wilson over him also.

But that was back at the end of the college season

All those YAC Creation plays have rules and ways for them to be maximized. He needs to get all that down. But then just needs to keep building that confidence getting more and more comfortable. He did well on that one play…got about 7 yards. That works. Not looking anywhere near to hit home runs. But at least can give that on those plays can counter and open things up for AJ and Smitty downfield. Those two will be drawing double teams and S. So the space should be there for some big plays to be made. Think it’s going to be Dotson doing it right now as it looks though.

He shouldn't need alot,he was fine in college. Most guys after round 3 need developed as rookies?

He's not goofy whatsoever, you just said it because someone else said it. Studies smart and athletic is goofy to you. Try thinking on your own with no ques
