I read that as well, but then people were reporting it was the Eagles. Who knows. Detroit has so many issues on defense that one player won't help vs the Eagles where he can play in impact spots and be part of a much better D.

I doubt anyone claims him.

EDIT: It's a fascinating problem. His contract had a $5.54mm signing bonus, $6.75mm guaranteed and total value of $7mm. He retired before the season, and the Dolphins are carrying $1,108,000 in dead money as they likely recouped most of the signing bonus. So...if you claim him, do you owe him the ~$4.4mm of unpaid singing bonus? The ~$5.6mm in unpaid guarantees? All $6.75mm? I honestly don't know. That's a lot to spend to block him from going to a contender.

If I had to guess the team claiming him doesn’t owe him anything, they just hold his rights. The contract also tolls.

Yeah, I can't recall ever seeing this particular situation before. I'd think at worst they'd owe him for the last 2 weeks of the season, but not sure about the signing bonus. Or maybe it tolls like he was a holdout? That could make sense. 

Any organization that claims him will face serious backlash IMO from other players, FAs, agents, etc.

It’s exactly what happened with Deion back in the 90’s. Only difference was he was still really good and young so like half the league put in a claim and blocked him. 

If he’s claimed he can’t come off the retired list, so whoever claimed him he would still be on the reserve/retired designation so that’s why I doubt he would get anything. He’s basically in the same situation as before, retired. Just a new team holds his rights. 

Looks like Dom is retraining Ertz. He doesn't play for us anymore so I back our HC. I appreciate what Ertz gave us, but he's on a division rival, so I won't root for him when it comes to anything PHI vs WAS related
