It’s exactly what happened with Deion back in the 90’s. Only difference was he was still really good and young so like half the league put in a claim and blocked him.

If he’s claimed he can’t come off the retired list, so whoever claimed him he would still be on the reserve/retired designation so that’s why I doubt he would get anything. He’s basically in the same situation as before, retired. Just a new team holds his rights.

Interesting - I had totally forgot about the Deion thing.

I still think it's unlikely a team claims him and ends up ticking off one of the biggest agents in the sport.

Can someone clarify if something happened between Sirianni and Ertz? The twelve posts with the tweet in it didn't cut it.

Yeah, I can't recall ever seeing this particular situation before. I'd think at worst they'd owe him for the last 2 weeks of the season, but not sure about the signing bonus. Or maybe it tolls like he was a holdout? That could make sense.

Any organization that claims him will face serious backlash IMO from other players, FAs, agents, etc.

I’m actually surprised the dolphins didn’t get more crap when when the story came out initially that they wouldn’t let him go. They came out after saying as soon as they are eliminated from playoff contention they’d release Campbell which felt like giving him a. Chance for a title as he might be at the end and trying to get good PR for not denying Barrett.

Does a team have to use a roster spot on him or can they just claim him to block and leave him on the retired list? If the latter you know a team will do it to screw the Eagles or Lions.

I believe (but do not know for sure) that they have to use a roster spot.

Washington loss was bigger than I thought. Sirianni was THIS close to having a Mt Rushmore winning %

If the Birds win the Super Bowl after dispatching the Cowboys and Giants, he goes past Allen.

This is what I get when I go to that link:

But if that page did exist and that message about embedding came up, it could be like with YouTube where the owner of  a video can disallow embedding. Like with the NFL, for instance (or PE.COM).

It opens for me on X. IMG_8678.thumb.png.49b68712bbc4168f149d02e00da9590b.png

Interesting if they have to use a roster spot on someone they claim but can't play

They don’t. They only would have to if he was an active player.

Maybe he is better after a week of practice with a plan around him, but I tend to agree he is that bad.

So they can screw teams without it costing them anything but bad PR. I think a team will be fine with that, but hope I'm wrong.

If Barrett clears waivers he'll probably be an Eagle. We'll see if a team is spiteful enough to claim him and block his ability to play for a team. If claimed, he's playoff ineligible.

Given all the injuries on the Lions’ Defense, I would suspect he is more valuable to them than to the Eagles … and he might see them as a better option for getting live snaps in games.

Does he want snaps or a SB? Hopefully,  a SB. He can't fill 4 other spots on that D. The Chiefs will destroy them offensively.

Here he'd take on the Long type of role with less reps but able to make an impact on a solid team.

I honestly think someone like the Vikings will claim him to screw the teams in their division or the Eagles.

Well the rumor at the time was he planned to sign with the Eagles so we'll see if that's true or if anything changed.

So Jalen misses weeks 16 & 17, then has to come back week 18 to beat the Giants to lock up the division? 2002 redux

Though I think Atlanta beats Washington Sunday night.

Finally. Maybe that will help him stay ready.

I could be wrong about the salary part. That’s just a guess based on how other retired players count with the cap.

I think he’ll clear. He’s an older situational pass rusher who might not even be good anymore. There’s no reason for non playoff teams to claim him so you’re only looking at like a 14 team pool. Any team that would be interested in signing him can’t claim him so that eliminates a chunk of the pool.

Unless teams know he’s dead set on going to one particular team. That would increase the odds.

this can’t be happening

Since he was waived from the Reserve Retired roster, you are more than likely correct.  It is a strange situation.
