That's fine by me. He can stay one more year. If he plays well in the new system his value will be higher next year when he is another year older and diminished even more, then we trade him.

Oh I get it, so unless you glaze Howie and give him the ultimate benefit of the doubt after a terrible off-season in 2025 one's opinion isn't "well reasoned."

The Eagles have been a top 5 team this century, a top 3 team this decade and are currently in their best-ever run.

How are fans giving Howie the benefit of the doubt?

"4 million isn't a lot for a backup QB" "Tanner McKee is gone anyway." "What backup would you have signed."

No, 4 million is very reasonable for a backup. However, right now Andy Dalton is the 3rd string QB and that is a lot for a 3rd string QB. If it were imminent that Tanner McKee was getting traded it would have happened by now. Maybe they do move him but as of now he is on the team and they trade for and overpaid for a 3rd string QB. Russell Wilson, Tyrod Taylor, Jimmy G, and Joe Flacco are more or less the same as Andy Dalton.

"How do you know the Eagles won't sign Marcus Epps."

First off, signing Epps AND drafting a safety no later than round 3 is the absolutely bare minimum Howie should be doing at safety. As of now he has done neither of those things, and completely ignored the position. If you want to deal with what Howie might do or can do, knock yourself out. I am dealing with reality and the reality is we have Mukuba and Brown and nothing else at safety and Howie continues to de-value and ignore the position almost two weeks into free agency.

"We can just draft an edge rusher"

Again, just because they can doesn't mean they will. Also, the chances of a rookie edge rusher coming right in and being a true difference maker is slim considering where we are picking. We have three solid young edge rushers who can contribute to varying degrees, what we don't have is someone with size and someone who is a legit number 1 edge rusher. It's almost like some of you weren't paying attention to last off-season and season when they signed Ojulari and Uche to go with Smith and Hunt and ended up having to sign Zadarius Smith, bring back 80 year old BG, and trade a 3rd round pick for Phillips.

"Who cares that they guaranteed Jake's 5 million"

I don't even know where to begin here but I'm not spending much time here. He's been one of the worst kickers in the league the last two years and they just rewarded him by giving him 5 million guaranteed when it wasn't. This essentially locks him in as the kicker in 2026 when at the very least there should be serious competition if not just outright getting rid of him.

In denial of what? What is your solution? Put Howie back in the basement because his offseason plan is not your offseason plan?

Not a straw man, an assumption of what you’re implying to make the bleeding stop. The 2025 offseason wasn’t a disaster. We got at least 2 prospective quality starters in the draft, decided not to re-sign Milton and Sweat (which would have been cap disasters), and managed to re-sign Baun. Upgrading Patullo to OC was the big mistake, but that’s not something anyone can crystal ball. If you predicted he’d fail, good for you; but that’s not how an NFL team is run.

We’ve made the playoffs 8 of the last 9 years with 2 different HCs, 3 different QBs, and like 15 different OC’s. There is one constant in that run. And we’re now gonna say he doesn’t know what he’s doing because of a backup QB trade? Because of an offseason assessment an entire month before the draft? For a GM who famously makes championship-winning moves in July and August?

The point isn’t to grovel at every move Howie makes. The point is he has information we do not, and if he hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt than who has?

I love that Stukes was so high. Trevor is an idiot for putting EMW 4th.

They're too high on Haulcy who will be a liability in coverage.

I like Haulcy but he's scheme specific, I think he'd have similar problems here as Reed.

Stukes on the other hand has the versatility you want, good size, can play downhill when needed - better fit.

I didn't follow his reasoning for dropping EMW - the guy is just a much better athlete, and not a slouch with his reads.

Same with Sydney Brown. He got put at nickel CB one time due to injury and got roasted. Some guys can't get put in the slot.

Funny Haulcy also has tackling issues at his size that those guys attribute to lack of arm length. That's not fixable then...

After the video my safety rankings remain the same.

1. Downs

2, 2a McNeil-Warren/ Thieneman

4, 4a Bud Carson/Stukes

6. Kilgore

7. Taaffe

Hope to land one of those. There will be others I like but those are your day 1 starter level players.

Not sure why folks still engage trolls in here. Boredom?

That's not ideal when McKee is already on the team and if they did get a 3rd that isn't a ton more than they will get back if he leaves as a FA. Someone will give him 20-25 million. If the goal is to win the division and get a BYE you keep a good QB2 for that vs a 3rd round pick who may or may not turn into something.

So every team has to have two starters on it? Andy will be the backup and he will be as good as most team’s backups if not better.

Not every position that isn’t a pro bowler is a hole

In the roster.

This stat is hard to wrap my head around. Last 150 yard game from a TE for each franchise. 150 yards doesn’t even seem like that high of a bar to clear… I would have guessed every team has at least 1 every couple of seasons.

But phenoms Brock Bowers and Tyler Warren have 0 so far, Delanie Walker played in 183 games and had 1, Darren Waller only had 2 his entire career, Jimmy Graham had 0 his entire time on both the Seahawks and the Packers…

Meanwhile, Mark Anderews, Isaiah Likely, Todd Heap, Shannon Sharpe, Benjamin Watson, Ben Coates, Hayden Hurst all combined for 0 for Baltimore. I would have assumed they had the most this millennium with how many strong TE’s they’ve had

So you are upset that Howie hasn’t drafted a safety yet? I agree the position needs to be addressed. I would rather they had re-signed Blankenship. I just am not worried about it being an issue in March. If they are heading into camp with the same depth at the position that’s a problem. I think they should address it before the draft. Ideally they invest in it early but they can’t draft for need over talent.

Trading for Dalton doesn’t make a bunch of sense unless Howie wants to be able to trade McKee without worrying about replacing him. They also want to roster three playable QBs. It seems like an over pay but we don’t know what the market is for the position. If they move McKee for a 3rd round pick, it’s a good deal. It’s a better deal than having to spend more than a 7th to get a playable back up after a trade. If not, then the question is whether and to what extent trading for Dalton keeps them from making another move.

Ideally they upgrade Edge with a veteran but there’s no way they should have paid Phillips the deal he got in Carolina. Adding AJ Epenesa would not be an upgrade. Grenard would be great. Grenard for a 2nd would not be great. That’s the price Vikings’ reporters are saying the Vikings want. Trading a 1st for Crosby doesn’t make sense. In a draft class where Edge is one of the deepest positions, drafting one early may be a better solution than overpaying for a player. I think Edge is a need whether they add a player or not.

Of course this is my biggest concern about trading AJ. The Eagles have been historically terrible at drafting WR under Howie. You can make excuses for him, blame Reagor on Doug and JJAW on Lurie but they just don’t know how to evaluate the position. He has made one good pick at the position, Devonta. Yet , the people on the trade AJ bandwagon seem to ignore this fact. I have much more confidence in them replacing an Edge or Safety in the draft than I do at WR. So even if they get a 1st round pick with the trade, that pick has a less than 50% chance of resulting in a player that can replace Brown. Odds are with a Brown trade we will have a less than average WR room.

Elliott is not ideal. My guess is they will bring in some UDFAs for competition. I think the Eagles are aware of the options out there for kicker. They probably don’t think there’s a better option. I just don’t think the guarantee changes much for him. I know @LeanMeanGM has said there was an option bonus this season that was significant. I have not found that information. Both OTC and Spotrac show no option bonus this season. So what they guaranteed was just about $1.3 million in salary. I don’t think that significantly changes their dead money hit on the contract. It does change the cash they are spending which may make cutting him cost prohibitive. I just would be surprised if that prevented them from bringing in competition when a UDFA is such a low cost.
