Hard to discern what is effort and what are mental lapses or struggling. When Mailata whiffed on blocks he usually makes or gets blown up by guys he usually blocks is that bad effort or just a bad play? I usually give players the benefit of the doubt that they are all giving their all. With rare exceptions like Ben Simmons passing up a wide open dunk.

I think the reality is that the players in the locker room liked AJ Brown more than Hurts. I don't think Hurts is even close to the most popular player in that locker room. In fact, he's probably one of the least. Of the starters anyway. That's weird for a supposed franchise QB. Most great QBs are the most popular guys on the team or top 3. I'm not saying players dislike him, but Jalen Hurts is every bit the odd duck AJ is, just in a different way. Where AJ Brown is emotional and vocal, Jalen Hurts is stubborn, closed off, stand offish. There's a reason the Eagles brass had to go to him a few years ago and tell him to embrace being more of a leader. And reports come out about how he's not really close friends with anyone on the team. AJ Brown is.

In a very weird way, I think Hurts and Sirianni... two guys part of two championship teams... are going to end up being "the cure became the disease" if you will. As long as that duo is here, I think further problems will arise like AJ Brown. I think both are holding the organization back and when players feel that you aren't achieving to your capabilities, guys are going to grow frustrated and disgruntled. They have to tailor an offense a very specific way to cater to one dude, I can't see players being cool with that. Especially if Hurts is unable to adopt this new Mannion offense... my god things could get ugly fast. And I don't even mean on the field. And in general I think Sirianni is an unserious clown coach who has used up his motivational speech allotment and on top of that you have a revolving door of OCs every year because your head coach isn't good enough to run an offense of his own. I think AJ Brown is the first domino of problems to come as long as the Hurts and Sirianni duo is together in Philly.

So...it's done. I wanted a 2027 3rd and 2028 1st, so close enough. The real question is - was AJ's decline last year more a function of him putting forth less than total effort, or is he starting to decline? I think the answer is a bit of both. There was no world where Howie was going to extend him again, so he wanted to go somewhere to get stats and try for one last big contract. The contract was structured to move on after 2026 (either trade or post June 1 cut), so we get a future 1st for moving off him a year early. Good business.

As for the impact on offense, given the radical change in scheme, looking at Hurts' numbers without AJ is probably not very helpful. This year is all about how well Jalen and the rest of the offense pick up Mannion's scheme, and is the O Line healthy.

Yup. Agree with all of this. The line of demarcation was always going to be the 2027 off-season. He wasn’t gonna be here at that point. So they got out of it a year early and we’re compensated for doing such.

I think his ploy to get out of Philadelphia and get traded can be tied back to his next contract. He sees the writing on the wall that the Eagles have all these young guys that they gotta pay. that they are unlikely going to give a 30-year-old wide receiver who may be declining with knee issues another big extension. I think his agent probably told him, if you get traded the team that’s giving up assets for you is far more likely to give you that big extension because they’ve already invested those assets in you.

Furthermore, if he stayed and played 2026 in Philadelphia, if the pass offense didn’t look better (new coordinator and new offense) and his statistics dropped even more then it was going to be used against him when he tries to negotiate a new contract and more guaranteed money at 30 years old. his productions dropping off 3 consecutive years and he has knee issues so his next big contract was less Likely to happen. I think he believes in New England that he’s gonna be the focal point of that offense so that he could put up the numbers he wants and get that next contract.

He really is the anti-TO. TO fought to come here and loved it here. Thinks back at his time here as the best of his career. He did not want to be cut/traded and would have wanted to stay here.

Did you miss the sit ups in the driveway and fights with his teammates?

He earned a new contract. That whole situation was mismanaged by the Eagles

On a side note, I read the Eagles passing offense in 2025 was 12th in DVOA.

Can we just put DVOA out to pasture already? Has been one of the most useless and fake BS metrics for years. DVOA rarely aligns with the reality of what's actually happening. The eye test is way more valuable and accurate than garbage "DVOA"

He signed a 7 year $42 million dollar contract in 2004. I am sure Joe Banner did not handle it well but neither did TO. He ended up costing himself money. He did not make back what he lost not just playing out the contract with the Eagles. He likely would have gotten the full value of the deal.

I agree. The only good metric is EPA. The Eagles were 13th in EPA in their passing game in 2025. https://sumersports.com/teams/offensive/

I think what you see with AJ Brown is what you get. It's hard to watch wide receivers lose a step and become a shell of themselves. But when they lose it, they lose it. Here, you have an aging 29 year old wide receiver who's had surgeries on both knees and now has persistent hamstring issues. Combine all of that and you have what you have. The guy was never really a speedster to begin with. The guy's body is just not moving the same these days and that's it.

It would have been funny if he failed

I know you're special, but no organization would renegotiate a contract after one year. It would completely destroy any ability to construct and predict a roster.

Acting like TO was the good guy is hysterical.

F AJ Brown, on sight him at joint practice with DeJean, and if it escalates with teams send in Jalen Carter and that’s a wrap

Dead to me

Funny false claim, because the Eagles did exactly that with Barkley one year after signing with the Eagles.

They extended him and guaranteed a year. They didn't completely rip up his deal and massively increase his 2026 pay.

There was no extension given at all. When he first signed he was given a 3 year deal. After he got more money with his new deal the length of the contract was also the same. They did in fact massively increase his pay.

So tell me this guy doesn't have mental issues and is a consummate professional.

  1. Uses AI pictures to demonstrate his infatuation with Patriots in a younger picture

  2. Switches to jersey #1 immediately after trade. Hurts' current number.

  3. Owns and sports a Patriots rug in his living room, while being employed by the Eagles

  4. Says Superbowl didn't give him much joy or jubilation and didn't really feel anything.

  5. Starts reading "motivational books" on the sidelines during games to draw attention.

  6. Rumored issue with Reddick and massage therapist. TBD on that. But I kinda believe it with how all of that went down during that time period and the team chemistry absolutely plummeting.

He celebrated his birthday a little too hard.

Looking dominant at X already.
